thats wierd i own an Emachines and they r built by Acer and i have a SATA drive and XP always picks it up, you need some SATA drivers which normally need to be put on a floppy which sucks, or u could chance ur luck and use NLite
@lindsaymobil22 for acer user..1stly u need to change ur bios setup by pressing f2 on start up. change the sata mode to ide mode. then u can go throgh the normal setup.
@DRAWER27 for acer user..1stly u need to change ur bios setup by pressing f2 on start up. change the sata mode to ide mode. then u can go throgh the normal setup.
you need to 1st delete the C: partition or where ever you windows is installed to (be sure to back your personal files up) then continue with xp install and it will then ask you to create partition and format (choose quick format ntfs) now your xp will install. but if your pc/laptop is quite new then it is likely to require new drivers downloaded from microsoft website or other sources if you have a bent copy of xp :P

L305 must be US model. At first visit Toshiba support page and check if this model is WXP supported. If the drivers for WXP are available you need to load SATA driver (F6) when WXP installations starts.
How to install WXP on newest Toshiba notebooks you can find out on Toshiba support forum. There you can find hundreds of threads with nice description how to do this.
It dosnt even say anything like that for me, It jsut says "Starting windows" then after that it goes to the error message saying "An error has accured in windows" and its a new fucking disc, Fucking A microsoft crackheads >.> If linux can run EXE files NICELY AND SMOOTHLY I'd use that because windows is starting to suck my cock >.>
strange a hope i dont get this problem wen i get my new laptop, i have downgraded from windows 7 an normaly b4 it goes to the blue screen it formats the hard drive first?? why didnt u get that :S stupid vista
please explain to me exactly how you fixed this.!.!!!. i have the same prob and i hate vista and want xp please tell me how to "format" it right so i can UPGRADE from vista to XP
i hav an hp pavilion and i try to boot it from the disk. it loads the files, but then 5 secs later it goes to an error screen saying that i should uninstall or reinstall hardware. plz help :(
You need to install ethernet driver inorder to connect ethernet cables. If you already done that, i think you need to install the CD that came with the ISP.
Upgrading to vista is the biggest mistake i've ever done with computer. Its slowing down, takes up lot of harddrive space and RAM, startup and shutdwn is slow. Only good thing is it looks better.
this is vip your new computer is sata not ide when installing pres f8 when it says to install sis ans what ecver drivers that is a vip step new desktops and laptops run primary sata where the olderones with xp ran ide cables
billthebubble it doesnt make a diffirence its your laptop not reading the xp disk is it the original or copy because if its a copy you must just get nero7 temperaraly and just burn the xp file as a normal iso file then it will work because during the xp instalation you will format your harddrive!!
You need a CD of a previous version of Windows. I have a Windows 98 CD, but any CD before windows XP will work. You will be unable to find one at a store, so you'll be lucky to find one somewhere.
i had the same problem. all you have to do is when the pc starts you press f2 and go to the bios, and then go to the advanced tab and change the ahcn or something like that (its the 1st one on the list). and change it to disabled and it works!!
Hi I am kinda new to these kind of things im not that good with computers i got vista and i want to downgrade it to xp so can someone tall me the step by tep instructions or somekind of a link please tymv
i accidentally put vista on both of my drives...is that going to be a problem?? i did what you did in the video but when i boot the CD-ROM drive it says it cant find the disk or whatever..its not the disc cuz i tested it out on my desktop...does me having vista on bith the C: and D: drive have anything to do with me not being able to load the disc from the boot menu?
yeahh! the problem is only the SATA and IDE so you have to go to the boot setup and change sata for ide and problem solved right now im trying to instal xp and vista n the same machine let's see what happen
I have had the same problems. But then I fixed it with GREAT EASE~ the problem is, is that the windows xp disc only has the drivers for an IDE hard drive not a SATA. So you would need to inject your hard drivers SATA drivers into the windows xp cd using NLITE software. You can usually find your drivers from the intel website if you have an intel MOBO. If AMD I do not know how to help ya.
What did you do to get by that? I have the same problem, I know you need to give it Sata drivers but idk how to do it, what did you do? let me know please,
Check out my tutorial, much more clear and is actually edited.

You have to wipe-out your hard drive and then put the XP disc into the computer drive.. That's what I did, and it worked.
