very disrespectful, jerico does not or ever will deserve a spot in the hall of fame. Steamboat showed he still has plenty of gas in the tank, and should have won the match.
@bikerdhill You do realize that was a storyline right? Jericho was playing the heel and calling out legends that were willing to come back to wrestle again.
This will go down in history as the day The Dragon stole the show and upstaged, at age 56 and with 16 years out of the ring, everyone else on the card at Wrestlemania 25.
I remember watching this live and feeling bad for Snuka. I LOVE Piper, but he's long past it. Then Steamboat entered the ring. "HOLY SHIT!" was the first thing that came to mind.
@Romchikthelemon Respect? Dude, he was shown respect just for being in the match. The match only happened to put Jericho over. If Steamboat had won it would have done nothing for either of them.
@Romchikthelemon hes got a point... if jericho loses he can't beat an old person past his prime.. it ruins jericho as a main event talent... if steamboat wins yeah he gets credit but since hes not wrestling it does nothing but put over a guy who already is a legend. Look steamboat just cemented his legendary status in this match by doing as well as he did... Jericho furthered himself as a hell with this.. it worked out as it should have
@Romchikthelemon Big difference between Hogan and Steamboat Hogan hadn't retired from wrestling... He was still an active wrestler at the time so that was different than getting these guys who all had retired.. I mean up until this point the last match steamboat wrestled was 1994... thats a little bit of a gap where lots of the audience might not even have been alive
The best part of this is seeing Frank Shamrock sitting next to Mickey Rourke when Jericho calls him out. You might as well call out Sylvester Stallone while he's sitting next to Bas Rutten.
Unbelievable performance by Steamboat. At his age, with so many years of forced retirement from his injury, he still looked absolutely amazing. He still managed to put some of the WWE roster to shame with this match.
@TheChaserofSouls : Can't be that. Jericho lost to Triple H at WMX8. On another note, as epic and legendary as HBK/Taker was, I think Steamboat's performance stole the show. Much like at Wrestlemania III. It must have been overwhelming for Jericho to be there making another classic Wrestlemania moment with the guy whom with his match with Savage was the reason why he got into the business.
@Lordani66 - That should tell you how good he was back in the day. Today - he can still wrestle better than many of the new young wrestlers in the WWE! And that's NOT a joke!
@TheChaserofSouls True I mean theyre were great matches.......but i can see some other wrestlemanias featuring Attitude Era Superstars.......Wrestlemania 19 and 20 were exellent.
@LiveWire134679 Not from a wrestling perspective, but he is overweight and soft. That is the worst I have seen him, but he is old. I have always been a Piper fan, but I would have prefered to remember them as they were versus "one last hoorah".
@AndrewC437 i was soooo impressed with steamboat here. he didn't look the same, but he moves like he never lost a step. i know most people would disagree, but he shoulda won this. it wouldn't have hurt jericho's career one bit to lose to a legend like steamboat. for God's sake, jericho lost to heath slater on NXT..... ridiculous.
@eyepatchinc I believe a friend of mine when he said that Steamboat, after leaving the WWF (in the day) didn't keep at the hard wrestling stuff, which makes sense on why he can still do all that stuff.. He wouldn't have beat up his body like Piper did in other federations.. Just a thought..
@rainxxxx You see him at Night of Champions? He looked horrible. I wouldn't call the last 3 years cut. Look at some stuff of his in 2000 and thats what you call cut.
@zoso7889 thats what you think, you will be surprised at what wrestlers are on, their physical appearance is not a good indication, lots of people are well into their 50's with great muscle mass
@rainxxxx Yeah but not twice the size at 42 as they were at 30. One of the only guys to keep a video game physique after the drug testing became stringent after Eddies death. Or maybe im just too cynical and he actually defies aging unlike other mere mortals
@zoso7889 42 is not old in bodybuilding, obviously everything starts slowing down but ive seen people that take loads of gear and still look like shit, jericho is younger than trip h
IDK if the Rourke thing was just a quick publicity stunt by Jericho, but I bet he didn't know Mickie Rourke was actually a trained boxer that was trained by the man who trains the current #1 P4P fighter in the world... Lol
(years ago, but I can see he still knows how to throw a jab
I thought Randy Orton was the legend killer so they went that route with Jericho to? oook why would they give two wresters the same type of storyline wwe is running out of original shit
@DW1014 With Randy Orton, it was more of a way to put him over as a main eventer. He couldn't be the Legend Killer forever. And as for Jericho, it was just something for him to do at WrestleMania. This was the last we heard of him vs. any legend.
@SandBathroom Jericho can work. He is a future hall of famer. He sold this extremely well, and even tweeted about how awesome it was to work with snuka, steamboat, rourke, piper, and flair. I even saw ricky steamboat and jericho at a house show days after ricky was attacked by chris on raw. Both were very nice; jericho wrestled, ricky and finlay were the agents for the show...
Unfortunately Ricky Steamboat was very severely injured last year, and I doubt he'll wrestle again (he is 58 after all), but he never lost it until then. Form is temporary. Class is permanent, and that's what Ricky had. To spend 15 years out of the ring and perform like that? Class.
