  • wow thats fucked up, i had to put my hand over my birds eyes so she wouldnt see this, very sad indeed :(

  • :(

  • FU*K AFRICANS

  • Might find disturbing? If you don't find those sweet birdies screaming upsetting, there's something wrong with you.

  • It is sad to see stop buying wild birds u morons.

  • very impressive trapping! The natives have to earn a living and feed their families, so give them a break.

  • Good job! I love exotic birds, and don't see any reason why we shouldn't have them as pets. It's not like they are slaughtered or killed. I'd love to have a breeding pair of wild African Greys someday.

  • What a sad animal trade again must stop it!

  • Kill the Nigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Question:

The Greys captured from the wild, say they were in a cage for a year or so, do you think they could be released back into a flock like the footage shown here? I certainly think its possible.

  • my heart breaks, my african grey also went through this and i feel so sorry for him..he should have still been there fly high in the trees and be happy and free. He was on a market place where i saved him from death. He's a bird who pulls out his feathers etc. its all so sad he's a loved pet now but he should have been free. I'm so happy europe stopped the import.

  • This breaks my heart

  • This have to change.

  • Those poachers deserve to be captured as slaves in the most barbaric and painful way possible. Fucking barbaric savages

  • Save a parrot, lynch a nigger.

  • thats ridiculous,i thought the pet birds from the pet stores are breed in captivity, like in warehouses, wtf are they doing trapping birds who are born in the wild, thats so barbaric.whoever is ordering the birds from these poeple should be locked up.dam loosers

  • this video really disturbed me. i feel mercy for these birds.....

  • if people in europe and asia didnt ask for these birds, there would be no market. laws need to be passed. period. plus can you blame the humans that are trapping birds. they are so poor there. its a sad cycle.

  • This is very cruel I have a grey that was hand reared here and I know they as well as being very tame they can also be very sensitive when provoked I know for a fact they would be extremely alarmed by that net, bless em all

  • I don't believe this and how bad this is WHY do we let this happen ,i fill ashamed ,

  • cant believe this ,how bad this is, how can we let this happen we should ashamed of yoourself

  • Thank you for the very rare clips of african greys in the wild.

  • fucking idiots

  • As I sit here in my computer room, with my CAG on my shoulder, as she is eating from my mouth...... I am so saddened to see this!!! My CAG has know complete flight and free reign of her home. Unfortunately, I have 2 dogs and ceiling fans in my home and "Piper" has gotten very good at flying into and onto places that aren't safe for a loved captive bird. She had her 1st wing clipping about a year ago, and I've been keeping them maintained...... She is a "red factored" grey, and I love her!!!!

  • WHAT THE HELLL??!!!!

  • very informataive, thank you... I have often wanted to see greys in the wild

  • hey the should be some kind of big organisation to bad the trade of parrots!!!

  • At 1:20... um I have to say, something is ironic here. I don't know. Maybe because its similar to the slave trade. That is disappointing. Why can't they just breed the parrots and sell them as pets? Instead of treating the travel as a slave trade, where half of the birds die?

  • ((poorly((jako((

  • These birds in the wild contribute to the whole ecosystem, but, what is the need for that guy capturing it? In other words, if one doesn't contribute for anything, at least don't destroy it.

  • this video made me cry!!

I hate people that do this!!!!!! :@

  • This is terrible!!

  • one thing i did not understand is how they are caught?

    how did they do that?

    and why?

because of money? thats pity :(

  • ok i have a big thing to say to these people (ASS WHOLES)!!!!!!!!!

  • No buying wild caught anything, people.

  • It is too bad that people think confining them in tiny cages to be kept as companion pets is a good thing as opposed to them being left with their own kind in their natural habitat.

I am pretty sure that one day soon captive parrot breeding will be seen as cruel and will be outlawed. Most people can deal with an infant or toddler parrot, but once the hormones start raging is when the reality sets in and people start looking for crude ways to dispose of their "beloved" pets. Sad but true.

  • This commentator asshole blames people wanting them as pets. There is no reason to be cruel like the depicted monkeys in this video.

  • This is unbelievably cruel. We used to have a grey parrot lady which was catched like this. She had lost one of her toe nails. It took us almost 20 years until she really started to trust us and to accept the love and time we spend on her. We had her for like 26 years until she died because of an infection in her lungs. We still miss her a lot BUT we would never buy such a bird again, because the only way to make them happy is to leave them in freedom. Everything else means psycological pain!!

  • What is the benefit of buying a wild parrot over a handreared local bred one? Why do people buy wild birds?

  • Dont buy a wild caught parrot. You dont know how old it is, where it came from, how it was treated, and you might not be able to train it..it could stay "wild". Buying a captive bred bird you get the piece of mind knowing that it was raised in a good clean enviroment, most likely hand fed, and get a good clean bill of health. The U.S. and many other countrys have a ban on imported wild parrots.

  • The people buying them have no idea they are treated like this.

The people capturing them, those that ship them, and the stores that buy them likely do.

  • ...*hugs her Certified American Bred African Grey* If people just bought local birds instead of buying wild birds then this crap wouldn't happen anymore. I agree, that the import of wild parrot should be banned. These animals are essential to the wild, a 50% fatality rate is completely unacceptable, and inhumane.

  • I gave both of mine a hug after watching this video. My first was purchaced at a pet store....hatched in Texas. My second one we adopted from a family that couldnt keep it after having children (allergies) hatched in California

  • @SessaFrost

You say this, yet without wild caught African Greys (not all of the wild catching is done by Cameroonians), you would not have a "Ceritified American Bred African Grey". Odd isn't it?

  • @lionzion22 This comment is not true Granted the very first generation had to be wild caught from Africa but after that and it doesn't take long until there is no need to be involved in the Wild Caught Trade this problem does not appear to be Hopeless. Thank God The world without free flying Parrots would be a much less beautiful place to be in.We need reasonable people in this world today to work for change before it is too late.

  • If the people who captured the greys were not so mean to them I think it would be ok. For instance if I was one of them I would put one or two birds in a large cage. I would not stuff 20 30 birds in a small crate. If only they cared a little more, everything would be fine.

  • That doesn't matter Lucky, these animals are wild, and parrots are known for stressing out ESPECIALLY Grey's. It could be a Grey per cage, and that wouldn't change the fatality rates. What kills them is the stress from unfamiliar territory and they stop eating and die...

  • كذا يصيدونهم

  • this is awful.. I am almost crying...

  • Was it a wild caught or a bred bird? if it was bred than it has nothing to do with these guys. Don't help wild trade, never buy a wild caught parrot.

  • hear the growl, poor things!

  • Yes, cause the parrots and birds could definitely survive in the wild after being brought into the world by humans, and tamed by humans.

Hell, why don't we just throw our cats and dogs into the wild too! They definitely would survive. (Sarcasm)

  • your argument just supports mine: that all birds should be released and not kept as pets. they are wild animals.

your premise about dogs and cats may be correct, but it doesn't refute my argument that birds shouldn't be kept as pets.

  • No, they shouldn't. But you can't release a bird that you have owned for years back into the wild and expect it to fully thrive and live, if that is what you were trying to say.

  • Hmm i have an african grey how is handfeed that means that she is not scared of hands or human.

If I would realse her in to the wild. She would not survive because my parrot has never been in to the wild. So she would die! And so will many other parrots if their owners are stupid enough to listen to the crap you are talking about.

Because the "trolls" as you decribe them. Would not buy a bird that they dont know where it comes from or how the have breed them.

  • wow i thought they jus shoot them with sleeping injects that sucks good thing i take good care of my african grey knowing thats how he was caught he deserves the best care for wat he has gone through

  • Why they still do that?? I hate that people!!!

  • Hey, they just do that to survive! Give them an other job, don't curse them.

  • How you can see they live in swarms, and one single parrot is no happy parrot. Please give him not less than one conspecific.

  • I agree Eco-Tourism seem like a bright alternative. I will pay what ever is possible to go and see the greys in the wild. I own a grey, I rescue him from a pet store in southflorida. He is a plucker. He is smart loving but does not grow feathers in the wings and has no tail. he can never be release. I do agree 110%.

I love my parrot however they belong free in the wild not on cages.

  • @rescuealex hi. I`m not wishingto slam you, but consider that while you think you rescued the bird, the shop owner merely regards it as turning over his inventory. So the trap cycle continues, does it not?

  • ecotourism will help the animal and human

  • eco tourism will help the people in those countrie gain income a positive way than just becoming poachers.

  • Well if you had to feed your family when you live in a country that has nothing, I think you would doing the same. So stop saying its so wrong!

  • yyes of course is soo wrong!!! :@@@

this kind of bird is parrot and you cant use it as food okayy??? they can eat fruits or something like!!! what other i will see on this planet!!!

  • It is because we in this country (US) and others desire them as pets and don't care where they come from, and that is why people do this for a living in that country--the root of the problem is our demand for wild animals as pets

  • this video is very old they don't do that anymore

  • they snapped that greys neck did you see when a grey was coming out the box and they put the wood right on top of its neck

  • does this still go on...oh my god how awful..i couldnt watch it all..barely able to see 1st 40 secs..ive just bought an african grey..this is heart breaking to know that they do this!!!

  • Bando de cretinos analfabetos, esses que pegam as aves e os animais. Por isso que morre tudo de fome e guerra..

  • why not just have US breeders make it lees expensive to buy birds through them than from these people? Babies are better either way and everyone including the birds wins...I have a timneh grey US bred and born...I feel bad for him and he didn't lose his whole flock...ecotourism may help the birds or local peoples but the impact on the world to get there to look at a pond isnt worth it...really? tourism? are you serious? yes importation should be passed but travel isnt the answer!

  • It's true that we're creating much of the demand in the first world, thus captive bred birds as pets are better than wild caught. While a handful of trappers are indeed trying to 'feed their families' that doesn't make their trapping sustainable or acceptable. We need to both eliminate the demand and provide them with viable and sustainable alternatives, otherwise we'll surely fail.

  • how about we grab those hunters by they're balls and drag them arround in dirt and put them in tiny cages and sell them to the zoo's, to view as attractions and sell them as...?

  • Those hunters are just poor locals who are trying to feed their families, like everyone else wants to do. How about you actually engage the brain-cells and encourage home-grown parrots be used as pets to reduce demand, rather than taking out your hate on locals in a horrid, 3rd World economy.

  • This person is just a youtuber trying to entertain his family. You should wake your own grey matter and encourage people to simply not post anything on youtube that YOU might not agree with, rather than biting someone's head off for being empathetic for these birds that are being victimized so that these guys can "feed" their families. Heaven knows, there's no vegetation or meat to be had for free in the congo!

  • Okay these guys catching these birds need to be shot. I am sorry that is harsh to say but thats messed up. That is like sticking 5-6 year old children in a box cramed and can't move. Each and everyone of those birds have feelings and emotions. I own a Grey and I know how smart he is..

  • No wonder they died, they handle them roughly

  • i don't want to go to zoos anymore just to help u.

  • I think you'll find that there are very few grey parrots, or parrots at all, in zoos. These birds were and are being trapped for the pet trade. In the past, they were mostly going to Europe, but now that they have banned all wild bird imports, they are going to the middle east and Asia primarily.

  • i am not going to have pets at all or books about them.

  • Pets are not the problem, and millions of people's lives are enriched by responsible pet keeping. Just think twice about what pet is suitable for you and where you get it, then both of you will enjoy your lives together.

  • unfortunately, you are correct. MOST greys that are sold as pets in the U.S. are bought as "impulse" items. Novelties. People see them, think they are neat, and think "I'll get one for myself! My 4 year old will love it"!

If you ask me, all grey parrot sales need to include a 3 month waiting period. This would weed out the guy who wants to get one because "they're neat".

The same thought and consideration that goes into having a baby should go into owning a grey parrot.

  • people don't buy wide bird in usa

  • Can you do something similar for the Yellow Nape parrot in Central America?

  • This is EXTREMELY disturbing... but it's necessary to show this...

The problems are rooted so deep though, it's hard to see hope. Sustainable development must be fostered in these African nations, and the "educated" developed nations must stop importing them.

    Is there any hope??

  • Thanks, we agree it's important for people to understand how this works in reality, disturbing as that may be. Is there hope?? Absolutely!! Since making this video and launching a campaign in the EU urging them to stop imports (90% market share and about 2 million birds a year), they have now permanently banned the importation of all wild birds!!! Lots of people worked hard on this, but this change has spared over 10 million birds already!
