McCain said, had he been President when Katrina hit NOLA, he would have landed his plane "at the nearest Air Force Base and come over personally."
Yet, on that day he was standing on the tarmac in Arizona with Bush, less than 100 yards from Air Force One licking frosting off a birthday cake Bush had brought him. No indication that McCain did any pleading with the President to get the plane in the air and rush right on down.
