  • she reminds me of Natalie Portman for some reason...

  • @sweetblackstarx omg me too!!!

  • sorry for asking, but i don't speak english and i don't know what purging is. is it vomiting or something else ?

  • @schalala321 It can be vomiting (like in this case) or it can be taking laxatives or diuretics.

  • I don't have an ED and -I- cant stand watching them eat...it looks so strenuous honestly...it makes me feel sick...

  • I can't watch any of the eating parts of this doc. I have an eating disorder (mainly restricting and chew-spit on-and-off for 7 years), and I just feel like vomiting watching them eat. A part because it just makes me feel full. Mostly because I can feel them forcing it down their throats, and I know exactly how that anxiety feels.

When she says, "If I die, so be it," it's true, unfortunately. That's how I feel right now.

  • fluid pushes fluid...??

  • @tatulover2120 If you drink a lot, you pee a lot.

  • Her dad's like. "up in Utah they eat vegetables, they don't eat good food" lol that cracked me up

  • "Fluid pushes fluid, just to let you know." Anger pushes my fist to your face, just to let you know.

  • Oh my, they are trying to help those girls but they are feeding them waaaay too much in a meal. Even when I didn't have an eating disorder I wouldn't be able to eat all of that.

  • ''it's like giving up all the control that you had, or you thought you had'' ...

  • These girls must get crazy being locked inside for days and weeks. I have been in an alcohol treatment institution one time after I had binged and had a sort of mental breakdown...That wasn´t funny. You really starting to climb the walls...

  • Why is this such good thinspo? I thought I was the only one. Pro Ana

  • @ganellajay That movie is either bull shit or it's talking about table sugar/brown sugar. I'm talking fruits.. glucose. The stuff you're brain runs on. Your 'lean' chicken ends up as glucose after your body changes it from fat. Which takes a long time& lots of your body's energy. And thanks for your concern. :) Try watching Earthlings, Forks over Knives, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. And readbooks: 80/10/10- doug grahm & Prevent & Reverse Heart Diesease - Caldwell & The China Study - Colin Cambell.

  • @ganellajay Btw I get plenty of protien every single day in every meal, amino acids come complete in all fruits/veggies. And have fun dying from your overconsumption of fats.

  • @ganellajay You're very silly. And have all of the TRUE facts mixed up. Sorry you're just as mistaken as most the population of humans. Hopefully we'll all open our eyes some day.

  • Can i just say that i love Polly

  • LOL. Eating vegetables = bad food? Right. These girls should be forced to eat mainly raw fruits and veggies and a vegan diet. So they can't get fat.. but will have a normal body weight naturally.

  • @MsLaurenPanda

no, you idiot. They aren't in danger of becoming fat. Raw fruits and veggies is also the stupidest possible diet. Never in human history did a culture eat entirely raw fruit and vegetables and be healthy and strong. Humans adapted to eat meats, nuts, tubers, etc, and ignoring this comes at your own peril.

  • @tubermann1 Maybe not fat. But that's not a healthy diet. And actually.. we came from moneys. It's called evolution. And a frugivore diet is best suited for our body type. I've done my research. It all adds up. How are you so sure we are susposed to eat meat? My health isn't at peril and never will be. It is at the best is has ever been in my life. Please. Stop being ignorant and watch some vids about raw veganism/fruitarianism.

  • the nutristionist is kinda a bitch

  • @ResidentevilEX101

If you want someone to talk to, I'm 17 also and right in the midst of it, too. Just tell me and maybe we can talk?

  • they give them a massive amount of food at meal time. I dont eat that much in a full day. I would go nuts eating that much.

  • @Redrumxtina I think they give them so much because they really need to GAIN a lot of weight, so just eating a normal portion will not make them gain enough weight? Just a guess. I suppose maybe they are giving them more to eat because they maybe think that when the patients leave the clinic they will reduce the portions to a 'normal' amount, whereas if given normal poritons, they'll reduce it below 'normal' once they leave? x

  • @Redrumxtina the give them that much because the normally eat so little and eating a normal amount is not enought to make them gain weight. if they normally eat 175 calories in a day, they have to eat 2500 calories to make up for eating such small amounts.

  • god i would do anything and give up anything to be my 109 pounds again and thats not a lot for me cuz im a 17 year old guy with anorexia and bulimia and i iss it so much i hate my self so much i wanna be thin again so bad :( any pro ana or pro mia's out there wanna help ?

  • Ew I hate the way Shelley looks at Alisa while they're eating. So nasty.

  • @ktar007 haha that creeped me out too.

  • i think brittany is really beautiful. and her nutritionist is a shitload of fuck

  • I can relate so much her binge/purge story...god, I hate it.

  • Wow I actually had chills at the back of my neck when that mom of 2 beautiful children confessed that she is prepared to die and leave her kids without a mother, just to stsy thin.

  • hearing her talk about binging and purging makes me feel so much better.

  • Alisa's manner of speaking makes me insane. It's way too dramatic and forced. I don't know if she is just playing to the cameras but it annoys me to know end.

  • I hate this clinic. Why can't they just eat foods they WOULD eat but have enough. And they act like it's their fault they purge or strave. No wonder Polly killed herself

  • This institution is bullshit. They are just in a camp waiting to die. They don't help them, they don't even explain to them why so many of them are unhappy with their bodies, that it's a big marketing scam and they reap all the benefits.

  • LOL A PROZAC CLOCK. HAHAHHAHA. only in an eating disorder clinic. :x

  • Brittany is ridiculous

  • I think Britney is craving attention. I don't deny she is suffering but she seems to crave attention at the same time :/

  • @MissPonderosa Of course she's craving attention. She's 15. I have yet to meet a 15 year old who WASN'T looking for attention.

  • they eat vegetables, they don't eat good food. hahahahahahaha i always laugh when i hear that. i feel so sorry for shelley she's beautiful

  • my god i hated treatment! especially in fucking utah

  • @machatte911. the one thing you are right about is that the disease IS about attention sometimes as well as mirroring yourself in negativity. Imagine not being able to control your negative thoughts about yourself and the urge to be so thin that dying sounds better than being at the weight you are. It's devastating.

  • I really hope that nutritionist lady was held accountable for her horrible bed-side manner. She was so rude and heartless towards the patients. I feel like I would purposely go against her advice, just to piss her off. These facilities need to hire loving people. Not tyrants posing as caring staff. The male therapist that Shelley has is nice though.

  • @HollyJRocks I know what you mean. She could have taken a few moments and talked to her about why this is not a good idea. If you want someone to open up to you, you need to spend time with them and earn their trust. A lot of these girls have been purging for so long that it is hard to stop. Just the same as trying to stop smoking or drinking.

  • I love the clock at 6:18 "Prozac" and "Zyprexa" xD

  • alisa is so pretty!

  • i wish i was thin...

  • I couldn't eat all that shit in a whole week. Two weeks even. Wow.

  • @machatte911 why are you watching this?

  • @machatte911 You know absolutely nothing about addiction and eating disorders. Go be normal, and express your ignorant and self-righteous opinions to the other "normal" people.

  • @machatte911 It is a disease. Would you make fun of a diabetic? a cancer patient? So why should you make fun of someone with a mental disorder?

  • The nutritionist is such a fucking bitch

  • Most people think that this kind of documentaries make people eat... but in fact, its damn triggering for those who already have or tend to get an eating desorder...

Seeing this, I'd like to just stop eating for the whole rest of the week.

  • The nutritionist talked down to Britanny when she mentioned the fluid thing & the purging, and that, is unprofessional on the nutritionist's part.

  • @killerxnikki at some point I think she needed to put her foot down. Britney seems a bit manipulative.

  • @MissPonderosa Name me a NON manipulative anorexic. It's probably not Brittany's fault, anorexia warps the mind. :/

  • @killerxnikki for whatever reason it is, shes not going to get better if people like you labelling that its not 'her fault' - this perception leads to more destructive behaviour because they think that what their doing is justified. At some point they need to take responsibility for their actions or they won't get better.

  • @MissPonderosa You're right, & I'm not saying it isn't her fault; it is, but it's a really complicated thing to understand and has to be handled differently for every person which is why I have just given up on recovery. I do agree with your point though.

  • @killerxnikki I know all too well

  • @MissPonderosa Trust me , so do I. Sadly.

  • @killerxnikki That nutritionist was exactly the same as mine, like she was cloned! Absoloutly talked down!!! That kind of "help" did NOT help at all, it was patience, understanding, and getting to the root of the issues and compassionatly helping me to deal with it and take steps to recovery- on my terms (with some pushing). I no longer have an eating disorder (at least 5 years free of acting on any symptoms)

  • @ibeafairy First off, I am so glad you have been ED free for so long! I really admire that, I myself can't bring myself to recover yet...I just can't let go. Secondly, if they can't do their job the correct way, it should not be their profession. This whole clinic & its workers bother the hell out of me.

  • @killerxnikki no its not lol

  • @killerxnikki I just think alot of the people in this that are in a position to help these girls and woman, talk down to and act really unprofessional.

THis is something that isnt a joke and there almost playing at doing a good job :(

  • @SienMay I think she was more unprofessional regarding Shelley and the whole "garden burger" thing. Shelley was right to ask for an apology from her

  • @killerxnikki Let's be serious here, she was normal. Her reaction to the fluid thing was normal, I would react the same if someone told me that. Why should she have done? Ask "Oh, really? Tell me more about it!". These girls need help and they need to understand that their way of living is not good and could kill them. There is no way to sugar coat that.

  • @killerxnikki It's called confrontation, once you have a rapport with a patient it can be acceptable. It's not like she doesn't even know the girl and is confronting her about it.

  • @killerxnikki Talk down? The patients have the mentality of a 5 year old throwing a tantrum. Are you suggesting they change the staff every 2 weeks to keep them "loving" and "in-touch" with the patients selfish little feelings? Go study Psychology, educate yourself. These uncaring "bitches" are actually making a difference in the lives of these women.

  • @killerxnikki

She sounds so much the nutritionist at the ED treatment program I was at. We all hated her and tried to run when we saw her coming. She is the reason I will never go back to treatment again

  • @umassigkap I know exactly what you mean dear! Sometimes, the people who are supposed to help scar you from help as ironic as that is. My old psycotherapist ruined therapy and recovery for me forever. stay strong love. xxx

  • ughhhh ensure THAT's certainly not helping them to not wanna barf..

  • eeeeek ensure!

i nicknamed it 'the devil's saliva'.

  • Omg they're ensures

    They're DISGUSTING!

the chocolate one tastes like liquified spacefood sticks

  • How is eating vegetables and walking your pet dog bad for you? It's better than binging and purging or starving yourself...

  • Utah.Utah,UTAH!!!!!!

  • When I was in and ED clinic they called it a Replacement... it tasted like mucus but you could flavor it with nesquick so it was chocolate mucus ha ha

  • damn utah!!!!

  • LOL curse you, Utah!

  • us Utahns are horrible, walking our little dogs not eating good food!!!

  • I feel like Brittany sometimes. :$

  • ha ha the dad blaming Utah for everything was quite comicle. If anything I know a lot of girls that tend to go the other way in weight meaning they gain because the people in the communities welcome you with yummy fattening food, gather at functions around good, fattening food and when someone passes away in your family or gives birth, the women in the ward bring over (drum roll please) good fattening food. I love Utah & living here ha ha idk where her dad is getting his Utah info!

  • @GoldstarBallbuster wow, that's harsh. if you don't like the way he looks close your eyes.

  • @GoldstarBallbuster Honey, calm down. That comment came from someone who has a skewed body image themselves. If you care to continue talking about this I will freely divulge my psychological problems to you. Or even if you want to take a shit on me again, feel free. Just please do so in a PM. Thank you and adue

  • lol i friggin love the dad! XD

  • What does she mean when she say it isn't a locked facility? Does she mean that you are choosing to be there? Because in Brittany's case she isn't, her parents are making her be there. (And part of me thinks in her Mom's warped mind that is so Brittany puts on weight and will be heavier than her)

  • @kbsydney You have the right to leave if you wish, unless you are a minor then it is the parents choice or if you have a court ruling, Brittany is only 15. And because it isn't a hospital you can't be forced into these places.

  • She needs a nose job. Then she'll feel pretty and won't need to be thin. (that sounds really mean but.....)

  • pfft wat the hell. utah is so blame, sweetheart ur obviously in denial of ur daughters illness

  • Went UP to Utah? Where the hell does this man live? "Utah is DIFFERENT?" Amish and Mormans live in Utah. I have never seen a little dog in Utah.

  • People in Utah walk their little dogs in the afternoon and eat vegetables...I bet they're all communists too!

  • I feel bad for Shelly, having a pretty... Um, dense father.

  • omg the dads eyebrows!

  • haha i live in utah.

  • the girl keeps tying her hair even tho its all falling out

  • @happynappygirl1 Um. What the f$%k else is she supposed to do with it? Wow.

  • FUCK UTAH.

  • @dumbscene i agree

  • they don't eat vegetables in Utah?

  • that nutritionist is so annoying. i would not feel comfortable with her at all

  • Yes, eating vegetables and walking your dog will definitely lead to Bulimia. Beware Utah!

  • Shelly's dad is funny Utah Utah Lol Come on pops!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Some of these comments are more triggering than the documentary itself.

  • I thought Josh [from Drake and Josh] said that "Nothing bad ever happened in Utah"?

  • Lol @ Shelley's father: "[In Utah] everybody eats vegetables, they don't eat good food"

Erm......what are vegetables if they're not good food? Much better for you than the burgers and fries which have made the majority of Americans morbidly obese.

  • @spider23000

I think that the dad is equating eating veg with dieting. I'm pretty sure he means that people in Utah pay more attention to diet and exercise than where he comes from, and statistics may very well agree with him.

  • @lesterclaypool1 I'm from utah and NO don't talk about stuff you don't know... come live here and find out for yourself.

  • @loved2bethin

You are as ignorant as the father. I'm not saying that I think that people in Utah are that way, you ignorant twit, I'm saying that the father's ignorance is making HIM think that way.

Don't comment to me anymore. Every one of you comments has been so childish and stupid that it's a waste of my time reading them.

  • @lesterclaypool1 I'm not a twit. Thanks very much.

  • @lesterclaypool1 Just wondering, where dd you read the statistics about Utah paying more attention to diet and exercise? Is it cuz of Mormon religion? or was it something else? I'm honestly curious, I'm not trying to pick a fight, I wanna read this.

  • Screw you, UTAH!!!

  • Whats wrong with walking your dog..?

  • These girls are "normal" size in Utah. When I first saw this I didn't even think the girls looked any different than most girls, I see everyday. By Utah standards, Brittany looks like he has a fat face :(

  • DAMN UTAH!!!

  • what is the "resource"

  • @foreverrbieberr the resource is designed to put on weight REALLY quickly but as to 'what' it is i'm not too sure, but it would just be very very high in calories.

  • Oh my God! Why in the hell do they have Brittany around her mother?! Her mother has an eating disorder herself and they were dependent on each other for so many years doing "chew and spit" and the clinic is going to let her actually eat with her?! That's the biggest trigger of her eating disorder! This clinic is dumb as hell and unprofessional! Those poor girls :(

  • anybody knows where i can get those resource drinks? i've always been skinny and tried to gain weigh and failed... and that actually looks yummy lol

  • @Noemmd ensure and boost are also used there. ensure is good, especially if you freeze them first. you can get them at a grocery/drug store

  • they should get rid of the pro-ana bracelet..

  • spreading the blame, i mean i have been there, angry and wanting to blame society. but honestly it dosnt help anyone. lets start fixing the problem instead of just talking about it

  • so do the nurses just think the red bracelets are a fashion statement?...

  • "they all eat vegetables they don't eat good food".....wow.

  • @Foofehh its quite the opposite. There is a problem when dealing with anorexia patients. To have obese/overweight people working constantly with them they are reminded of why they don't want to gain weight - this is not good at all, they need people that are healthy to work there so they can respect them. Its not funny at all, its ironic. Society as a whole has formed this idealistic view on weight - and most people are affected by it no matter what their weight

  • The thing is, if you're obese then that means you have some eating issues of your own...obviously an obese person does not eat normally at all....so yes, an obese person would be less qualified as a nurse at an an eating disorder unit than a woman who was at a healthy weight.

  • I agree with some of the comments that the food they are giving them is not food thats considered "healthy" by the rest of us, it contains unhealthy types of fats etc. But remember, at this point some of these girl's bodies are so thin that they are actually in danger of dying. Its not the best type of food and hopefully the facility teaches them healthier ways when they them get to a healthy weight, but high calorie food like that may be necessary at that time. They really need weight on

  • Since when is Utah California?

  • well its true, until you get a stroke.

  • I watched this doc a few years ago when it premiered on HBO. Really sad to find out Polly has passed. And I can't help but fall in love with Alisa, she's so smart and attractive and honest. I know it's not just about these girls realizing that they're physically "pretty", just wish there was something I could do to help. BTW, thanks for uploading.

  • I hate Shelly's attitude. She always has a smirk on her face.

  • @KaraDelonas

i'm sure she hates yours equally.

    what a wonderful world.

  • lol @ the dad blaming Utah for everything

  • @alexmoore36 yeah i didnt get that either

  • @alexmoore36 you sure he was blaming utah though? i think hes saying that a lot of the stresses became apparent in utah. like healthy living is a thing there, she got into it, n took it a little too far? idk just a thought

  • the woman that gives the ED sufferers ensure is the only nice one in the whole facility ... and the man too

  • the woman that gives the ED sufferers ensure is the only nice one in the whole facility

  • he makes utah so appealing and..glamorous (?)

  • YOOOHHTAAAAAH

  • @lollymc90210 haha thats nice!

  • if that dad says UTAH one more time i'm going to chop his balls off.

  • I hate that nutritionist...

  • WALK THEIR LITTLE DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHH FUCKINHG CUTE oops caps eating disorders are fucking hellish torture but shellys dad certainly lightens up the subject lmao

  • Being a survivor of severe bulimia, I couldn't be in a facility with other people with eating disorders, even though it might make me remember I'm not alone. It would also, to an extent, make me take the focus off of myself and eventually relapse. I've been in a treatment center like this that didn't help until I decided I had to focus on myself. It's still a mental battle years later but being a mom in September of this year has made me fight the battle and help others with it.

  • ewwww that food looks so gross, i would only eat it if i was bingeing and there was absolutely no food left, and i eat anything! during my binges

  • I dislike how the nutritionist doesn't respect Britney's (sp?) wishes to speak to her therapist about purging. Yes, it is important that she knows, but giving Britney a chance to talk to her therapist could have made her more comfortable in the situation. Instead, she just gets pushy, rude replies.

    "Purging! You've been purging!!!"

  • Doctors should be shot for over medicating. Meds do shit and the withdrawal is worse than depression.

  • The comment "YEE-UHHH POLLY, TAKIN' IT LIKE A MAN" - this one statement speaks volumes about the gendered ways our society looks at food, and so much as to why the vast majority of people with eating disorders are women or trans men.

  • Damn, no wonder those girls are having trouble eating. The food at Renfrew looks downright unappetizing. For thousands of dollars a month, these women are basically paying for cafeteria food--canned fruit served in a plastic cup. And I'm not trying to be harsh, but why are ALL of the staff members overweight? I have always been 20-30 lbs overweight myself, and I would never feel right coaching anorexics on how to eat. Being overweight/obese is just as harmful as being underweight.

  • wait what are they drinking?

  • They use Ressource for geriatrics patients at the hospital I volunteer at...

  • @chargedchaos That is true but redundant. A diet consisting exclusively of materials classified as "vegetables" would be very hard to make work in a healthy manner for any human. However, the healthiest diet for any physically normal or healthy human contains nothing but plant based foods, and it is quite easy to maintain in most parts of the world.

It can't be ignored, though, that many anorexics use "veganism" as a socially workable way to avoid eating. It's a different kettle of chips.

  • It is so sad that these women have to relearn on how to eat normally.

  • Look at all the drug clocks and signs etc. Zyprexa zoloft etc! America is obsessed with pharmaceuticals it is absurd

  • this is very sad to me since my best friend is in a community just like this one...she has a twin and i've noticed that ED's are very common in girl's that have a twin since they constantly compare themselves to their sister...it's very sad

  • It seems to me that these people need to be shown love and acceptance, that their weight won't dictate others opinions of them... the staff seem so cold to the clients :(

  • . . . these videos are really triggering.

  • being overweight does get to the point where all you think about is being thin..it almost does become something to die for

  • why do they feed them fuckloads of carbs like that. all that mac and cheese....ew.

  • @msradiostar because if they dont gain wait, they'll get even sicker

  • does anybody else think it's terrible that they videotaped people in treatment? i mean, don't they realize how stressful that would be for everyone, not just the girls on camera?

  • I think it's sick that the facility is like "We wanna help you" Wtf, why is it so damn expensive to get your help then?!

  • @Slibs22 I couldn't agree more with you.

  • Yup. Clearly not her parent's divorce (or anything else that might have happened). It was those crazy Utah peop
