great video mate. nice fish. i caught 2 on my local River Roe in ireland last year. ur brave using a single handed rod mate. 7 mins is quick for a salmon of that size on that rod. but i dont agree that the salmon are the hardest fighting fish in the atlantic. sea trout would be. tight lines mate.
obviously you haven't hooked an atlantic salmon.pound for pound the strongest fish in the atlantic, typicaly your useing 6-8lb leader. This is not bass fishing with 20 lb spider wire to land 3 lb fish.Tell you what Ill guide and you if you can land your first 8lb fish as fast or faster, next 2 days fishing on the house.
With salmon you hold on and hope for the best ive caught thousands and still am proud when I land one in a min or 2(small ones 4-5 lbs) even these will snap your line effortlessly
Great fish I'm jealous but was that a knotless net for a safe live release? Because if it wasn't then that fish was damaged upon release, and might have died shortly after.
Interesting comment. The russian guides do with what they have. Much of the equipment is less than desirable, but they do take as much care as they can in handling the fish. The fly fishermen have little impact. Local poaching is the real problem. Locals are incredibly poor and it's subsistance. Luckily, their are just an enormous number of salmon. The sports fishery brings in revenue however, little trickles down to the local economy.
You can not be serious about that. have you heard about knoeless nets recently and now have to ad your commment? best is no to use a net at all, if it was for that.

Can't be more than 8 pounds. It should'nt take 7 minutes to fight that fish.
