@paragpokhrel he's right, minke whales are not endangered. They're a fast-growing, fast-reproducing species. BUT their numbers are still low compared to pre-whaling times. Taking 1000 whales per year means roughly 2% of their total population. The real problem with whales is, they are wild animals living their social life peacefully in the wild until OH SH- they get harpooned to the face. It's just...strange. Imagine 2% of human population eradicated every year cruelly. Yeah. Gets messed up.
Whales eat small fish. And if whales are not hunted, they increase in sea and many small fish are wiped out from the sea. Japanese love fish. So sustainable way of hunting whales are good for people, and also for the environment.
And Australian kill dingo by a cruel way but no blame for it and they forgive dugong hunting by native which are endangered.
The video says minke whaling is sustainable. Minke numbers are hundreds of thousands at least. They are not endangered. And most whales die fairly quickly due to modern techonology. The 2006 chatch by Japanese whalers was 700 minkes. Norwegians caught 546 in 2006. And only Japan is blamed with no reason. There is no blame for Norway, Russia, U.S.A etc which hunt whales, too.

You can almost feel the gentleness and curiosity flavors swim together on your tongue along with all the social interaction! Why, grilled whale is simply so much better than a lame beef steak! @paragpokhrel he's right, minke whales are not endangered. They're a fast-growing, fast-reproducing species. BUT their numbers are still low compared to pre-whaling times. Taking 1000 whales per year means roughly 2% of their total population. The real problem with whales is, they are wild animals living their social life peacefully in the wild until OH SH- they get harpooned to the face. It's just...strange. Imagine 2% of human population eradicated every year cruelly. Yeah. Gets messed up.

Whales eat small fish. And if whales are not hunted, they increase in sea and many small fish are wiped out from the sea. Japanese love fish. So sustainable way of hunting whales are good for people, and also for the environment.
And Australian kill dingo by a cruel way but no blame for it and they forgive dugong hunting by native which are endangered.

The video says minke whaling is sustainable. Minke numbers are hundreds of thousands at least. They are not endangered. And most whales die fairly quickly due to modern techonology. The 2006 chatch by Japanese whalers was 700 minkes. Norwegians caught 546 in 2006. And only Japan is blamed with no reason. There is no blame for Norway, Russia, U.S.A etc which hunt whales, too.

Norway, yes, they do. But in their defense - they are ADMITTING that they are whaling - not scientific research. And very little of their meat ends up on dinner tables - it's still an exotic dish. You know what happens to most of the whalemeat in norway and iceland? it gets sold to japan. Yep.

All through the Edo period, meat like beef, pork, mutton, horse, venison, etc. was all banned. Birds and sea-creatures were not. Thus, whale was pretty much the only legal source of red meat. It's consumption has a long history, and to ban it is equivalent to banning consumption of snails in France, or witchetty grubs for Australian Aborigines. Minke whales are not endangered, and neither are the escargot snails or the grubs. It's a part of culture, and you can't just ban it.
