It only makes you an expert in speaking it, not in knowing how it evolved, how it's structured, and how it relates to other languages. Just like a native French speaker cannot go teach French to a foreigner and explain the grammar or its history or anything unless they have studied that. You would have to read Frederick Cassidy or talk to Hubert Devonish or such people to really know.
