Pat Roach was the tough bald headed German mechanic who beat up Indiana Jones in the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark", but then he was chopped up by a propeller of an airplane. It's interesting to see him duke it out with someone even bigger and tougher here. I'd like to see Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) duke it out with The Giant Haystacks".
god this is like watching a flashback from late saturday afternoons when i was a kid ..only thing world of sport? was good for...nearly on par with the godzillas films in the morning lol.......ahh memories :)
notice the young children getting hyped up running to ringside shouting at haystacks, and the ringside wimpy security in dickybows removing the kids to the seats..
certainly is amazing what u find when looking beyond the main actin event
Im surprised that haystacks was never cast as a villian/ henchman in any film.I know Roach got quite alot film roles To me haystacks would of made a worthy opponant to any hero.Even if it was a b movie.
Jackie pallo exposed all of this during the 1980's; this is what finished wrestling! In a real fight Roach would've easily beat up haystacks, but here, he allows Haystacks to dictate the pace!
@eeddd08 I still love watching this because a fix doesn't infer that there was any lack of effort; to be entertainment a fight needs to follow a script where the audience can become involved. Haystacks and Daddy could only wrestle for short periods but they were the villian and favourite for the public! Also, the ref here is daddy's own brother.
Yeah your right. That why daddy was the star. The public warnings the heels used to use to get the crowd going. Haystacks didnt ave much stamina but the majority of opponants were knackerd by round 2
I once had the extreme pleasure of meeting Pat Roach at the Special Olympic Games in Sheffield. He was there to lend support to the disabled athletes- typical of him. A really nice guy who posed for photographs with our team- was patient and kind when talking to us. A wonderful memory. RIP Pat- one of Nature's gentlemen!
Roach was pretty much the only one who could take the fight to Haystacks, forget Big Daddy, that was just an act.i think Haystacks was definately worried about Roach.
Spot on.None of the well known heavy weights wanted to wrestle haystacks. When he went to the no more mr nice guy mode in the mid 80s onwards.Roach did.
Haystacks was a better actor than Roach! Every bout was rehearsed beforehand and both Haystacks and Daddy couldn't run around much, so the pace was always fixed! Daddy and Haystacks had to always win because the public only wanted to see a villian and a hero!
Always preferred haystacks v roach rather than haystacks v daddy. When these 2 wrestled it was more realistic. They should of recorded more of these bouts.Haystacks was always the main attraction.

Haystacks was MASSIVE... He is also the classic German giant, huge buffalo of a man.

Pat Roach had the perfect athletes physique for 6 ft 4, the classic big man Neolithic Briton sort of look.

@nastymonsters2
Yeah, Heystacks may have been 6' 7 , 6'8 in his prime, although probably more like 6'6.

6'5! He's 6'6 or 7 if he's an inch. haystacks has been in movies BTW. Pat roach is a massive bugger but haystacks makes him look like a kid

Fact is, 6'1 Akira Maeda did measure up better next to 6'4 - 6'5 haystacks than what BILLED 6'4 pat roach did

Good point. When they both get disqulified look how many punches roach throws. Haystacks misses him all the time.
