Alice for whatever struggles, bought her daughter into this world and for that she elevated herself above those that disregard human life for their own gratification and self preservation. Okay she regretted her first abortion, at least she did not turn her stomache into a grave yard and gave this child the right to life. @shlomofeuerwerk In Europe, Israel is seen as an evil pariah state, similar to Iran, N.Korea or Notha's S.Africa. because they treat the Palestinians with the exact same contempt that the Nazis treated the Jews. The Jewish vote to keep up America's support for the ongoing strangulation of Gaza is the odds-on favourite to cause WW3. Well wouldn't one think that if you were pro life that you would be able to bond with your own flesh and blood? Where is the sense of motherhood? Why have a child? For the sake of having it? I read the article Alice Walker's daughter wrote. I do think if Alice was such a feminist then she should have had an abortion instead of making the child feel unwanted and unloved. However, I do to some degree agree with what she says. Mother's do a lot and most times it's expected. Same thing with being a wife. I have to say I am not into traditions, I'm into what works for me. Also in the article I didn't read where she was abused or uncared for but she did not have that Mother Daughter bond.

I read Rebecca Walker's book Black, White and Jewish and the article she wrote about growing up with her mother. I actually envied her life, it seemed so interesting. I grew up with a absentee parent too, who was an alcoholic, and a sexist, I lived in a small boring town. I hated every bit of my childhood and adolescent years. I thought at least Rebecca Walker got to travel and live an unconventional life if not an ideal life. Alice Walker is a product of her time and circumstances.

If you're looking for an external solution to an internal problem, then you're even stupider than you sound. Absentee parents and broken families, regardless of race, directly contribute to unhealthy and at-risk children. The solution isn't to be found in a book or movie. It lies with adults acting like adults and making better choices - regardless of the enabling around them.

Wow! Alice Walker wrote The Color Purple and said that she didn't feel the need to write another book. Now it appears she is all about spirituality.
