It was started in strip clubs, and dance itself was created as a mating ritual. To the minority that sees art in things, yes this is an art and a sport, but to the majority that sees reality as what it is, pole dancing is just a bunch of hot women swinging around a pole in thier undies. Have a uniform covering the midsection like gymnastics if you want a sport.

@Skurei If you really look into the history, it came from a form of "Chinese Pole" where male use it to compete each other for their strength and ability, some you can see in the circus, similar in India for festival and special occasion. However, the pole dance we do now it's more about fitness, strength and flexibility, which require a lot of training and commitment. If it is not a sport because of the 'bikini', then how about beach volleyball and some female tennis player in hot days.
