  • Dean Martin makes this video so good.

and those cars we absolutely amazing!

3 wheeling it through most of those corners - great job Martin.

    much respect

  • It's nice to see an old school pilot like Martin Brundle driving all these legendary cars!

  • "Yeah baby love.....all that!!"

  • Fangio also drive this car! Fangio Rules

  • so how many corners did he 3 wheel it through?

  • This car is beautiful. I love the way these grand prix cars were designed; they were, in essence, Saturn V rockets strapped to pods. <3

  • The Maser 250F and PF were the last of the successful front engined F-1 cars. When Cooper and Lotus began racing rear engined cars, the Maser was like a P-51 Mustang in the early era of jets ~ it could still prevail, but needed the most-skilled pilot and a kiss on the lips from Lady Luck. You had to love the brave Knights who still raced them against newer cars. I hated the song VOLARE when I was a kid, but it certainly helps to place this setting (Goodwood/Maserati) squarely in the late 1950s.

  • bello

  • Crumpets, mmm...

  • 3:27

Notice the front wheel lifting off the track.

Driving this monstrocity is suicide, I tell ya, SUICIDE! 0.0

  • He is so adaptable...he is able to driver every generation of cars so easily...the background song was a classic. :) . Any one knows what song it is ?

  • @pummyy

    "Volare" sung by Dean Martin...Enjoy

  • WOW... I had no idea the pedals were reversed. Not to mention that he drives without giving a fuck! Amazing

  • They really were the most beautiful racing caars of all time. I saw a 1957/8 Maserati at the Beaulieu Motor Musuem and it was the most amazingly beatutiful thing I have ever seen.

  • Yeah! Baby!

  • chase the same crumpet... pure class from Moss there!

  • death - acceptable risk

  • By 1958 Maserati was broke. The 1957 WC did not pay off.

The 46 year old Fangio drove this car a few times in his retirement year....

It was not up to matching the Ferrari Dino and Vanwall that year..

Cooper and Lotus were 1959 and 1960

You see the old leaf springs and no ARBs..... a wonder they weren't still using

    friction shocks....

Maserati did better building the 2.9 Birdcage sports racers for privateers....

    J.C.

  • Ex F1 drivers like the classics! And Brundell gets almost as much speed out of this one as he ever did out of the F1 cars of his day ....

  • are you sure the maserati is not a replica ? some weird lines that I do not recall !

  • @elsspoel It's the Tec-Mec - built by Valerio Colotti for the 1959 season after Maserati had officially withdrawn from F1. Lighter and shorter than the earlier models and often described as being how the 1959 250F would have looked if the factory had continued development.

  • this thing is fast, but the chassis and suspension tuning... 3 wheel cornering?

  • Love the way the front wheel lifts in corners!

  • Stirling Moss is one classy motherfucker.

  • Ohh brother your trying to make the opening like the Movie Grand Prix.

Look's good but the volare song don't work with racing Car's,

  • My brothers English teacher knew Aryton Senna, Senna told him that he worshiped Fangio, and who can blame him?

  • anyone know the name of the song at 0:26?

  • @whatdumd The song is VOLARE by Dean Martin

  • A fair few nods to the le mans and grand prix films at the start :)

  • Alter der Prügelt das Schätzchen aber ganz schön über den Kurs. Da wird aber nix groß an der Fahrwerksabstimmung gemacht worden sein. Denn sein füßchen darf man eigentlich nich heben heben man in die Kurve geht. ;)

  • Inside front wheel OFF the ground! haha

  • @togalogs lol

  • Martino Brundeli is beautiful !!!! :-))))))

  • wait no, my favorite modle isn't this one.

  • my favorite car. then it's the BMW M1, then it's the Ariel Atom

  • I love the way he doesn't just do a lap, but really gives it a bollocking!

  • martino brundeli, lol

and stirling moss too, "we'd chase the same crumpet" hahaha!

inverted pedals, that would be so strange... imagine if you were about to crash and you panic and hit the accelerater!

  • The best 250F!

  • Moss is a hoot! "Chasing the same crumpet". On the flip side, THe 250 F became obsolete when F-1 switched from alcohol to gasoline , I think in 1959. That move sent all the engine folks back to the drawing board, and revived the Coventry-Climax.

  • Strange car...never seen a 250F like this one...

  • It is a beautiful video

    great video this is love

    I love this video

    This is passion and love

    Passion run car

a sweet kiss bye from Italy

  • This is love

  • "Martino Brundeli" Very good!

  • strange the nearside front wheel lifting?

  • what a superb car. A pleasure to watch

  • "thrown out the car clear" if it was the new cars you would be trapped inside while it catchs fire and blows up. Unless you quick enough to get out. Basicly these cars are probly more safer than nowadays

  • today's cars don't catch on fire, c'mon when was the last time you saw a car catch fire after a crash? that hasn't happened since the early 80s...

i just love how casual the drivers were, "oh we'd go shopping together and chase the same bit of crumpet... ...when you go down the straight you could look for girls but then you had to concentrate in a corner" lol!

  • The last time an F1 car really caught fire was at Imola in '89, after Gerhard Berger's crash.

The bulging hood of the car seems to suggest that it has to house a big engine, so would this be the V12 version of the 250F?

  • @ultrahenk No it is not the V12. It was known in period as theTec-Mec Maserati. Made by Colotti circa 1959 and was much lighter than the actual 250F design. They were able to do this because Grand Prix races had been shortened in 1958 from 500 miles to 500 kilometres and much more standard fuel "Avgas" was used so the cars needed to carry less.

  • if the pedals are in different possitions, how do you heel and toe?

  • 50's in GPL NOW!

  • I know there were some early development 55 exe's done by the 65 mod team. Although fun, and at times recreating a great 'front-engined feel', they were very far from the rigorous standards of accuracy needed for public distribution. Awesome fun tho!

  • "...chased the same crumpet!" LOL

  • No you are sadly correct these are NOT to be confused with F1 cars, no egocentric drivers, lawyers and drivers, no indeterminate diffusers of dubious legal or illegal design. No arguing about races in Paris 4 weeks after a race, overtaking aplenty........no it's not F1....sadly.

  • i find it hard to call these f1 cars im not saying there not im saying we hae come a long way

  • Chase the same crumpet haha! Moss is a legend! F1 will never be like that ever again.

  • what a beautiful car....

  • I have to see and hear that car at least once in my lifetime.

  • then get yourself down to goodwood next summer ;)

  • I have and i can tell you it sounds absolutely amazing.

  • The earlier 250F's were much more beautiful. Kinda bastardized by '58

  • God what a sound

  • love it when the right front tyre is in the air

  • which one does it hav the nirvana music in?

  • damn, look at that chassis flex!

  • "When you're going down the straight, you're checking your instruments, looking for girls, all that kind of stuff". Lol.

    Moss=LEGEND.

  • @F1Archives Ah so the reason Stirling never won the championship is revealed. Fangio chased wins while Moss chased the girls LOL

  • martin brundle is verging on being a legend.

  • With respect to Brundle, I wouldn't describe him as a "legend". For me, that puts him in the same company as Nuvolari, Fangio, Clark, Villeneuve, Senna etc.

  • Intelligent and fast.Did you see him in the 2 seater demo F1 car ?he drove this with gusto (was later banned!!!).Best F1 commentator perhaps, ever. Why ?because he actually knows first hand and can relay this. Not just billy banter.

  • "chase the same crumpet and all that sort of stuff" - great quote from moss!
