Just wanted to thank you for all the vids, iv'e learned most of my 10th planet techniques from you guys, and I believe in these moves.
Now I am a blue, and my biggest challenge is getting a high enough guard against stronger, larger and more experienced opponents. They always just stack and drive into me making it almost impossible to lock mission control with my forearm.
I was wondering about the rubber guard, when i got the rubber guard i always lose it becouse my opponent pinches his elbow into my knee (the leg thats on his hip) and from there he goes over my knee to side mount, any help on how to improve my rubber guard ?
@cookedbake keep your rubber guard tight, and as soon as he reaches down to pinch your knee with his elbow for him to pass your leg, swing your leg around his arm and get the triangle set up... every time your opponent tries to pass, it leaves him open for a triangle counter, if you keep your rubber guard tight he'll have to work to pass, giving you enough time to react.
@cookedbake If he has his hand trapped in between your triangle set up when you counter his pass attempt, hook your ankles like you were going for crackhead control, hook his leg with your free arm (assuming you maintained mission control/New York) and a. sweep him over to mount or b. he posts to defend the sweep with his trapped arm and he leaves his ass open for the triangle. Hope i didn't confuse you bro, if i did i'll be glad to explain again, good luck!
hello to you guys in submissions101. i gotta say i love your videos and ive learned a lot from you. i wonder if its possible that you would make a video regarding the stretching involved in learning the rubber guard. i've always been told that you gotta be careful when stretching your knees and such, so it would be really nice if you'd make a video about stretching for rubber guard. thanks
anyone wanna help me out, i try any of these controls in grappling and people just slip out and this is with gi pants and long sleeve shirts. double bagger works for me but it feels like im toe holding myself. people i grapple with is only around 20lbs bigger than me. any tips?
@kenseisato1989 Make absolutely sure that your positioning is perfect. The arm gripping the ankle should be in a fist with an underhook having the forearm cutting into the neck.
@kenseisato1989 Your wrist should be tight to the underside of your ankle with your opponent's posture broken completely down.
I don't know what kind of a background you come from but remember: space is your enemy. If you are playing guard and you give them an inch they will take a mile.
ok now i understand. yes i am doing everything that you are saying. i eaven go to crack head control and my training partners just posture up or slip out and thats when i have his posture broken completly. not only that their only 20 -30lbs bigger than me(im only about 135lbs).
my backround is 1 year wrestling, 3 years CSW. My Coaches also has attended Ari boldens seminar(s), have eddie bravo's books and one of them is probably a purple belt in bjj now.
@kenseisato1989 Hmm, there are a lot of subtleties to the rubber guard that I may not know consciously. If your technique is good then make sure is is no space for them to bust out with. Try to get to New York quickly, from there it takes a lot more effort to break the guard. Plus if they stack you from there there is an easy sweep available.
Why don't you allow comments on the gogoplata from mount video? I love you guys because you answer viewer questions which makes it about a thousand times easier for us, besides the fact you tell things so well. 10th planet ftw.
Got a problem doing zombie. I had this short and compact opponent. I manage to apply the rubberguard but I can't do the zombie because there is no space to dig in. Tried to triangle but he escaped using the back door.
Whatever the reason, if you can't get the zombie to get to new york, attack the arms. Go for the pump to spiderweb or straight to arm bar (this is from crackhead control) or try the duda (you just need to get a little of your hand through. I believe you can find videos of both those moves...and mastering the rubberguard dvd has that and much more.
You can put your foot on his hip which distrupts his stack a bit, but I personally like the double bagger when I am getting stacked. Just hold on...he will get tired an he won't get out. When he settles down start to work some offense.
Every gaurd can get stacked of course...but I have found if you can secure a double bagger (with his hand to the mat) you can survive stacking attacks.
"The Pump", it is crucial to learn this if you want to do teh rubber guard...push his elbow to the middle of your stomach and attack teh arm with an arm bar or sweep him to a spider web.
@MrSandmanTv it doesnt really matter how the rubber gaurd is positioned with which leg if you have got it you've got it but the left leg in some ways is more easier to work with for me
BE CAREFUL!!! i love rubber guard, but i was holding my back foot(double bagger) and the guy blasted out the back door and sweaked the hell out of my ankle, couldn't let go in time. i would try to grab the ankle instead if you can reach it. has this happend to anyone else? peace and love.
The rubber guard is held with an underhand monkey grip to prevent that. you dont want to grab your foot or ankle, but you need to grab at the base of your shin to prevent the burst out as well as preventing you from getting and dmg.
After you get New York and grab the left foot with your right hand, can't the opponent stick his hand through that open pocket between your right arm and right knee?
you guys got me back into bjj. i was livin pretty shitty and i was lucky enough to discover you guys at the time. that was more than a year ago. now i'm trained by a rigan machado black belt. anyway thank ya'll so much and i'll always study your techneuqe.
he named things so people wouldnt know what was coming when the name was called out from what ive heard. as for the names themselves well...have you ever seen eddie? he is hilarious and very random
@Submissions101 Whenever I do Crackhead or the Double Bagger, my friend just stands up (lifting me up) and smashes me to the ground. How can you prevent this? Or am I just doing something wrong؟
@AZNboi10921 I would attempt setting up a triangle while going for an ankle pic sweep with the hand. If you can time it just right you should be able to roll right into it. Im not saying its going to work every time or is easy, but its an idea.
I like the gi pants!!! Great video...DB is my go to! Nothing like the control and the ability to really create angles while staying tight! Great video!
i was having problems doing the zombie yesterday when i was sparring. This is a good way around that problem. Because i almost only train with people with gis, the zombie is a move i found difficult to do. i usually skip that technique and go for the rubber guard when their arm is already on the mat.

This video addresses that problem. The double bagger prevents the pass. If you can't get this then leg curl across the back

Getting crackhead often gets the arms smashed together (like the Pump), making it easier to get zombie. You could do it the other way as well.
