@thetourwithnoname I think the grocery back idea would be a good one. Because, yeah, the plants dried out REALLY fast. I had to water them several times a day, and I ended up leaving town for a day and putting them in the shade, and they were all brown when I came back. I attempted to grow a few vegetables, a bunch of herbs, and a bunch of flowers. It probably was not enough soil. I was a total gardening noob when I did this. I hope you can learn from my mistakes!
were these vegetables? if so, how was the yield from the plants in the show organizer? did you fertilize them? there isn't much soil there for much of a root system to develop.
Great idea! To keep the moisture in potting mix moist longer I would line each pocket with plastic ensuring there were sufficient holes or cuts in each plastic liner to allow water to drain. A watering system with a timer that watered them a few times a day for a short period would help during hot days.
I love you video. I am using the same concept here but indoors. I am hoping to purchase a small drip irrigation system , a water pump and some rock wool to start a hydroponic version of this.
I like your idea as well. You could also use those liter jugs to line the pockets, if they fit, and put some holes in the bottoms. Maybe then the plants would not dry out so fast.
Thanks! The main problem was that moisture left really, really quickly since the shoe holder was made out of canvas. I had to water them really, really often or the plants would suffer. Then again, I am a noob gardener, so maybe I was doing something else wrong.
@melaniebmayne additionally, what about lining the pockets with recycled grocery bags? just poke a few holes in them for drainage so if you overwater they don't drown in there. but that way it will retain more water
@melaniebmayne Next time try depends pads inside each shoe rack hole ( or a disposible diaper) they are filled with Superabsorbent polymers) line then with those and/pr recycled zip lock bags or grocery bags will help with your moisture issues next time.
hahaha for a second, I thought u were just going to film your garden from a vertical angle--very cool!
