  • this is beautiful!

  • :) <---- my face after watching this video.

  • Why complain about the video being too literal? NMH was one of those bands that often did lyrics that are easy to imagine, sort of telling a story - and paintings and illustrations can be metaphors as well as lyrics.

  • 0:32 garbage throw fail

  • This was super silly, but somehow charming. Good job.

  • Sure is literal in here.

  • First of all, this is a fairly good video. secondly it's made clear by some of the more resent comments that some people watching this don't know one fucking thing about Neutral Milk Hotel, If they did, they would now that many of Jeff Mangum's lyrics are very sexual and raw, and this song is no exception.

  • Why are all fan videos so fucking literal?

  • @RdSoxFan618 jeff's lyrics are literal so therfore, the vid should be to.

  • Why does everyone picture the two characters that fall in love as a guy & a girl? I assume the narrator is male from the voice, and the other character is referred to as the "KING of carrot flowers."

I understand that everyone's interpretation of art is different, but it just strikes me as odd that everyone assumes that the love in this song is heterosexual.

  • @MirroredJigsaw ok so it's maybe implicit but nowhere says that they loved each other in a sexual way? ok you love your family and friends.

    maybe your friends are weird:

"One afternoon I knew I could love you

And from above you how I sank into your soul

Into that secret place where no one dares to go"

And also you grow up together sharing girlfriends secrets:

"As we would lay and learn what each other's bodies were for"

    you have a point, but:

why point out the implicit in a pervy way?

  • @watothepencillover

I don't really think it's pervy. Sexuality is not inherently perverse, and as it's told in this song, it's actually quite beautiful.

  • @MirroredJigsaw you are missing the point, i'm telling that the song maybe it's not about "boyfriend girlfriend love" you know what i mean right? maybe it's about friendship

  • @watothepencillover

Oh no, I'm sorry, I'm not missing your point at all. The reason I didn't respond to it is because you very well may be right. The beautiful thing about art is that no interpretation is necessarily wrong.

I understand your interpretation, and I hope you understand mine, but neither one is right and neither one is wrong.

  • Very nice. Kudos. The ending seemed a bit abrupt to me, but this video's originality makes up for it I think.

  • the clay people freaked me out.

  • I just teared up a little.. this is one of the saddest, most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

    5 stars!

  • Beautiful song. And the claymation's a very nice touch. Plus, I'd never have the patience to do that kind of animation.

  • That was beautiful.

  • This is really awesome! Only complaint is the lack of suicidal thoughts at the end felt like a cop-out.

  • Agreed. I was expecting more than a zoom in for teh sinking into her soul bit too.

  • very cute

  • this is so cute!

  • Awesome

  • sick.

  • Dude, what's up with the shot at 48secs? It's claymation, you're supposed to use pictures, not insert video clips

  • I love the freudian reference, it's all so brilliant.

  • Oh word, this is great... cool video

  • Niiice

  • Love the big where the garbage turns into to the guy, and where it zooms in on the girls eye as he 'sinks into her soul' :)

  • claymation ooook oook!

  • nice video this video would be Zeum material .

we are a museum that promotes arts and technology to families and children people make animations here some like this.

  • That fitted perfectly not just with the lyrics but somehow with the whole essence of NMH. I cannot pay you a higher compliment! That blew me away.

  • trash watch my shit

  • ClaymationClayton : How can you compare two clay figures stabbing each other to a visual stimulus to an actual art form?

  • I'm sorry but I just don't think this film is well done.

  • R We smug!

  • no, just sad

  • So yeah, it's a great song, but it's also GREAT animation, it has the same rough home-spun quality that NMH does. I say, near perfect--wish the animation continued through the end of the song rather than cutting at the crescendo for credits.

  • That was really good. Great song too. Neutral Milk is great

  • lol, I love the garbage into the guy.

  • Of course it's a good song. It's Neutral Milk Hotel for Christ's sake. It's not that great of claymation though, although you do have some cute ideas.

  • you have the BEST taste in music

  • pretty cool. Maybe its posted, but I didnt see it, what band and song is that?

  • very nice.

  • That is very sweet, I really like it.

  • nice.

  • amazing! i love the underwater interpretation of sinking into someone's soul.

  • heyyy i was just wondering where you noticed the underwear part i think i've watched it like... 500 times and i still can't see it lol butt i waaant tooo

  • er, not underwear - underwater! with the fish and the snorkeling and the water?

  • omg sorry i'm a retard and a bit dyslexic you'll have you excuse me...

  • hey, i love your transitions. cool

  • That is awesome and made my day. It comes pretty close to doing the song justice.
