Methadone has quite literally saved my life. Before I was on the street , doing what one does to support h habit. Very unhealthy because due to the illiegality , one never knows the purity or exact contents of what youre shooting. and thae black tar here in Seattle just destroys your veins in no time. Now that I'm on a stable dose of methadone I have no symptoms of withdrawl and no synptoms of being high, so, I can work , drive, eat, sleep. I sometimes miss the rush'es but never go back.

opiate detoxing is not about "get the drug out". you change the way your body functions on a chemical level. withdrawal is your body being forced to function in a way it no longer can because you trash'd it.

the point of slow weaning is to allow your brain/CNS to adjust, little by little, learning how to function again - if it ever can. going from X to 0 in a month is like throwing a just hatched chick out a nest 200 feet up expecting it to fly-NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Kicking from heroin is bad but kicking from methadone is AWFUL. To help with sleep, get some xanax. That'll do the trick

I went from 80mg to 0 in 4 weeks which was very foolish. It was pure hell and sleep deprevation is only one of the problems in kicking methadone. After about 90 days I would say I was back to normal. This is one tricky narcotic which with myself had emotional problems which I never did have and do not have now.Best of luck is all I can say.

I went through the same thing 11 months ago,hang in there pray to god like you never have before,you just have two walk through it,and if you fail at first,the important thing is not to give up,it can be done i am living proof,just don't give up,it is worth it in the log run,and remember do not under estimate the power of Jesus.

Thats not true. The name dolophine has nothing to do with Adolf, rather its the combination of the French for dolor = pain + fin = end.

All the stuff about Hitler inventing methadone for Goering was made up by Harry Anslinger to try & prevent methadone programs from starting in the 60's

@Palfium66 Methadone was invented by a Swiss scientist. Later, methadone was called "Dolophine" or "Dolofin" as a conjunction of two words: DOLOR (A unit of pain) and FINI (the end): The end of pain.

It is a long-acting opioid whose metabolic half life is 36 hours on the average. For some this metabolizes faster. This is one of the reasons why it takes a very long time to detox off this substance.

Yeah,we have several of these fanatical groups in my state that cause all kinds of trouble with treatment centers. 99 percent of all methadone related deaths are actually a combination of drugs especially benzodiazapines,yet methadone gets the blame. It is a dangerous drug,but used properly it is a life saver..saved mine for sure and many people that I know. I want people who abuse or divert their methadone to be punished and support that,but dont punish everyone for the actions of a few.

I'm also sorry about your son. I have been in MMT for over seven years. Methadone enabled me to get off the street and get my life back. I am now a responsible stay home father of three. I own my home and am active in my community (volunteering).

@carolkack I know people who have been saved by going into a methadone program and working with the doctor and counselor and not "double-dosing" on it. I tried to get some addicts into a recovery through methadone and then to NA. Those who would not take me seriously ended up dead or in prison. There is a fear that "the government will know if I register myself". My answer is that the government will find out about you sooner rather than later the way you are going.

Methadone gave me my life back as one of the few pain relievers that works on my post surgical pain. I can go back to work, and not spend my days on disability, thanks to methadone. Any treatment has drawbacks and benefits. Methadone SAVES many lives.

Methadose is the only thing that allowed my husband to have anormal life after a surgery that went wrong, now the doctor has gone to only certain insurances and will not see him and we can not find anyone else to perscribe it! i am so fearful of the withdrawal and the way our life was before - anyone with any ideas please let me know! If you have to drive to find a doc or clinic do it cuz w/out the methadone you are almost guaranteed to relapse Washington state has both cash pay and med. coupons so does Ca. If your serious youll do whatever it dtakes. Please don't go cold turkey on Methadone

Notice how the video says that that methadone is highly addictive. All an addict will do is trade one drug for another....and methadone is more deadly and more addictive than heroine. It kills people because they are not tolerant of it. Methadone is a pain killer, yes, and most have the chance of being "addictive" although I can tell you that using those two drugs together, is wrong. It is nothing like the other drugs. It does not sedate you and lets you feel again and live in reality. It saves lives. I'm sorry about your child.
