question - is your index resting on the thin E string?

well it can help you at first tries, but remmber that your hand has to be free to execute correctly this technique. i saw the lesson 12, and i just wanted to tell you that for the alzapua, never move the two fingers (pinky and 3rd finger from their position)tou have to do the notes with your index and middle finger, even in fret 4!
