lol, no offense but resident evil 5 aint really a good benchmark game, i got a 9800 gt and i can run it on max pretty smoothly should try something a little more demanding

well I'm not a pro in overclocking therms but 44nm vs 55nm and minor power consumption means better oc and less noise ovbiously if the card takes good advantage of the gpu capabilities.

This question is the reason why so many people love this question. From what i have seen on forums and other things, the frame rates are lot higher when directx10 is running. RE5 is the first game to be written specifically for DX10. they rushed the DX9 component since most PC gamers have DX10 capable rigs.

It's not just frames per second. Direct X11 will be used far more widely than DX10 was, so the DX11 support will be key, and the human mind can tell the difference between DX10 and DX11, as well as 30fps on Crysis minimum compared to 15
for crossfire above 700w but I recommend atleast 750w, a good brand one, like corsair, I'm running 2 HD 4890 on a corsair 750w, and the 5870 supposedly uses less wattage, as you can see on the video.
ok r u stupid? at peak load the 285 uses 183watts. thats 366w in sli. now with even an i7 oced to 4ghz, that uses less than 300 watts, a total of 666watts. with the leds and hard drives, fans, etc. itll use at max less than 750 watts depending on how many fans harddrives, and led fans u have. a good corsair 750 tx would be able to handle it. since corsair under rates its units.
5870 definitely the better of the two in every sense, price/performance, single most powerful gpu there is, the fact that a lot of games dont use multi gpu well, and its efficiency make it much better than the 295.
why do you keep complaining? From a buyers' perspective you need to know which card is faster if you plan on building the fastest rig. Or if you want to know which has a better performance to dollar ratio.

yes the 295 does beat the 5870 in high resolutions BUT the price difference is off about $100 or more as well the 295 drivers have been worked on for about year now thus making it more effective than the 5870 FOR NOW. So in my opinion a 5870 is better than a 5870 economically , power consumption wise as well give it a month or so and the new drivers will make the 5870 as good or better than the 295.

turn off vsync in the game pc options or check in the CCC config of you graphics card and check in the 3d settings to see if vsync is off.

This question is the reason why so many people love this question. From what i have seen on forums and other things, the frame rates are lot higher when directx10 is running. RE5 is the first game to be written specifically for DX10. they rushed the DX9 component since most PC gamers have DX10 capable rigs.

It's not just frames per second. Direct X11 will be used far more widely than DX10 was, so the DX11 support will be key, and the human mind can tell the difference between DX10 and DX11, as well as 30fps on Crysis minimum compared to 15

the gtx 295 is already two GPU's, and uses way more power than the 5870. The 5870 is DX11 compatible as well which means the 295 is basically fucked

for crossfire above 700w but I recommend atleast 750w, a good brand one, like corsair, I'm running 2 HD 4890 on a corsair 750w, and the 5870 supposedly uses less wattage, as you can see on the video.

ok r u stupid? at peak load the 285 uses 183watts. thats 366w in sli. now with even an i7 oced to 4ghz, that uses less than 300 watts, a total of 666watts. with the leds and hard drives, fans, etc. itll use at max less than 750 watts depending on how many fans harddrives, and led fans u have. a good corsair 750 tx would be able to handle it. since corsair under rates its units.

5870 definitely the better of the two in every sense, price/performance, single most powerful gpu there is, the fact that a lot of games dont use multi gpu well, and its efficiency make it much better than the 295.

The watts in the corners is the full system load.
The HD 4870x2 was about 320 Watts full load this HD 5870 is about 180 Watts full load with the GTX 295 is about 270 Watts if that.

y are ppl complaining that this isnt fair? sure the gtx 295 may be a dual-gpu card, but the technology is almost a year old! the 5870 is brand-spanking new! i hear that drivers are the reason the card is loosing, but since when does a good driver boost performance by a drastic amount? sure you can get a few more fps, but nothing dramatic.
btw, whether u go amd or intel doesnt matter. quality counts, not brand; as long as the cpu doesnt bottleneck, then either is fine.

yes the 295 does beat the 5870 in high resolutions BUT the price difference is off about $100 or more as well the 295 drivers have been worked on for about year now thus making it more effective than the 5870 FOR NOW. So in my opinion a 5870 is better than a 5870 economically , power consumption wise as well give it a month or so and the new drivers will make the 5870 as good or better than the 295.

if people don't care about 3D Vision (I personally do like it) your probably better just getting the 5870, based on the price, and how well it performs next to the GTX 295, and it does have DX11.
I am personally going to wait for Nvidia's DX11 card, because I like the 3D Vision, and so it wouldn't make much sense getting ATI (for me anyways) not that I wouldn't recommend ATI to people.
it really depends what you want. Their both great companies depending on YOUR needs. :-)
