  • sounds like a cat is dying....

  • Why so many dislikes? The Darkness were always meant to be funny...and this is hilarious =D

  • this is awful. no, I'm kidding...its REALLY awful.

  • guy can sing...

  • They tried to make it more uplifting. Because the original seriously is so hard to got through without deeply thinking aboutsomething sad. I still like the original better tho.

  • noone else notice he plays the "Just" riff in the middle there?

  • I'm a huge Radiohead fan (seen'em 11 times) and Street Spirit is one of my top 5 songs, and I love the version by The Darkness. Yeah it's different, but the melody works perfectly for the cover version.

  • Thank fucking Jesus for that! Finally putting that amazing voice of his to good use :D

  • awesome. the darkness rock!

  • The reason this is fucking disgusting is because Street Spirit is a fucking depressing song. It's insanely emotional and incredibly deep. This doesn't capture that AT ALL. It just doesn't work AT all.

  • They missed a whole freaking verse! I don't mind the darkness but I think this song is much to sombre for their style. I don't think Thom Yorke would like it very much. Radiohead tend to play this at the end of their sets because it rattles tom so much emotionally, its meant to be a very dark song. Some things should be left to exist the way they were created I think. Still, The Darkness are definitely a cool band.

  • very energic cover! Good, good!

  • Awesome. It's great to hear a quality reinterpretation of a powerful song. Radiohead is heavy metal! The vocals are incredible on this cover, btw. Great stuff.

  • I really don't like it!

  • i forgot these fools were a band in the first place, good attempt ladies

  • It would appear that Radiohead fans take themselves WAY too seriously. This is pretty cool.

  • i dont paticularly ike radiohead, and of there sngs this is my favourite, but this is horrible...

  • 3rd favorite band covering my favorite band of all time's song.

  • Radiohead are a faggot band for faggots to listen to.....and the Darkness rocks.

  • @purpleidiot But The Darkness listens to them obviously, so they rock and are fags?

  • @purpleidiot, your name says it all faggot

  • no-one can cover radiohead and be better than them... they're radiohead!!!

but i gotta say that i was disgusted at the sound at first... but then again, they aren't trying to be another band. After a few listens, i like it. The vocals are amazing.

But i still like Telefon's cover better than this.

  • Sucks.

  • This just isn't my style of music, but it isn't done that bad. Just doesnt have the goosebumps effect for me.

  • Meh. It is possible to make good Radiohead covers. This was fail though. Soz.

  • God, some radiohead fans are so up their own arses theyre coming out of their mouths. Then again, most of them always have been.

Why can't you see that this is ultimately a fantastic cover of a fantastic song. There's nowt wrong with paying homage to an artist that you respect, and The Darkness probably dont give a shit if you think its a crap cover.

  • this is by far my favorite radiohead cover. they have a studio version too.

  • really good!!! :D

  • Im a huge ass Darkness fan and a buger ass Radiohead fan so you can see why bricks were shat when I heard this.

  • This is a pretty kickass cover!

  • As a big radiohead fan,i have to admit I wanted to hate it, but it was funny

  • brilliant

    amazing

  • Crime. An absolute crime.

  • :( THE EMOTION....its gone, turned a dark and depressing song too BUTT FUCKING SCREAMING! NO bad darkness bad. Need a Band Like Nightwish to Cover a song like that

  • @woodenbeard I fookin' hate nightwish

  • what happened to these guys?

  • @paulsee2 they ended

  • Did anybody else notice the "Just" riff after the first chorus?

  • @Kraboobee yeah man @ 0.54

  • I think that some songs shouldn't be covered at all, it'd be a crime to cover them, like Stairway to Heaven. I used to think the same for this song, but after hearing this cover, it kinda works. probably because it's a different genre and completely different style.

  • nothin against the darkness, but street spirit is dark and emotional , not sparkly and helium...

  • @WILVERINE38

nonono. Radioheads original version of street spirit is 'dark and emotional'.

You see, this the Darkness' INTERPRETATION of the song.

Another version if you will. A COVER.

    Compendre?

  • @E3tiger more dislikes than likes comprende?

  • I bet they think they wrote this lol

  • Radiohead Would be offend if they listened to it...Thom thinks that this song is too sad for a live...

  • wow they totally ruined the mood of the song

  • Sounds like the kind of thing you'd hear from behind the door of a garage.

  • Why?

  • this is kinda like playing yakety sax at a holocaust memorial

  • LMAO hahahhahahahhahahahaha I fucking love both bands.

  • o_O....

    es una version rara XD

  • This is so awesome...I pretty much lost my ability to breathe when I turned it on!

The Darkness..Radiohead....man, what an absolutely BEAUTIFUL combination!!

  • just because you dont like something doesnt make it crap...especially when you probably have never written music as remotely interesting yourselves...

  • I think the Darkness Permission to Land is a great album, people who say they are crap are simply wrong, go and write a pop song that is as good as Thing called Love or Growing On Me....you have n idea what you are on about most of you...

  • I'm a huge radiohead fan, and I find this absolutely awesome. Come on, don't you guys know a joke when you see one? This is hilarious.

  • I wonder if Thom will ever see this performance, Maybe he will get a heart attack after hearing the guitar sound.

  • Jesus. crap. people, this is great and hilarious, don't take yourself or radiohead so serious. Great band, not the greatest, and even they have fun, so you should try it...... yes the darkness was shit, but well played, hilarious shit.

  • fucking terrible. though the 'fade out again' bit is decent

  • I don't know how anyone can say this sucks. Look, it's 2010, we all know The Darkness were the perfect band in the sense they came, made us smile and burnt out. The fact they turned Radiohead into a buttrock power jam is f'n great. I feel bad for anyone who doesn't get it.

  • Godawful.

I hope anyone from Radiohead arn't watching!

  • they're probably watching and laughing their asses off. lighten up, you take things too seriously.

  • Just for listening purposes, this is okay. But the meaning of the song is COMPLETELY gone in their cover.

  • I kind of liked his voice for this, but the drummer and the first or second guitar (the crunch one) Killed this song.

    In a bad way.

This is an awful cover, but I like everything after 1:50 ish. The solo is very well done.

  • You need to be REALLY lame to fuck up that solo. As everything by Radiohead ;) .

  • Brilliant cover! They did it when I went to see em in manchester 2003, it was a slower tho and way more powerful. It was amazing!

  • wow i actually like it

  • ridiculous

  • it's played well, but geeze, the meaning of the song is totally lost this way.

  • shit. why didn't anyone in the audience shoot them?

  • when i first heard the radioheard the radiohead version i thought : whoa!!! this song is awsome! but i though that it would be x10 times awsome if there was a nice drum beat and some distortion on guitars at a point!! great cover

  • wow really nice cover.. im a huge radiohead fan and this version is really awesome.. good job

  • Huge Radiohead fan. If the darkness had just covered this song with in the same style as radiohead, yeah it would be pretty crap. But the fact that they did it to their own style is pretty awesome. Well Done!

  • i'd love to see a motorhead cover of this cover.

  • Haha Lemmy don't have the right pipes for it.

  • The bit at 56 secs sounds like the solo to Just

  • hahaha i think it is!

  • Lol You cant compare one to the other....totally different styles. Both are good. Ok? I am a radiohead fan to and not really of them but I am not going to lie and say it sucks. Its awesome. :/ its the hardcore nutty radiohead fans that make the rest of us look like some kind of cult. hahaha

  • I think this was way more up beat than the Radiohead version. I liked it more. Justin delivered some of the best vocals I've ever heard out of him.

  • i think it's a good cover even though i dont like it

  • tbh this is more interesting than the original, its not so serious

  • im a huge fucking radiohead fan, and this video is totally awesome

kudos to the darkness for molding this song completely to their style, but doing it tastefully

  • Amen

  • Radiohead better check it

  • Holy fuck, is it a sin or some shit to cover Radiohead? Soon as anybody attempts it everyones all over the cover like white on rice, trying to tell everyone how shit it is, I, for one, heard very, very few mistakes in this cover, I actually prefer it, to be honest, so you can all fuck off =)

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • Shame the version they did at Reading music festival isn't up here..it was amazing - this is pretty dire in comparison

  • Sometimes when you take a song from a completely different genre and rearrange it, you get something really amazing.

    And sometimes, you do not.

Guess which category this cover falls into?

  • A few minor things irk me about this, but over all i think this is pretty fuckin' cool.

  • wtf did i just listen to

  • That is just plain horrible.

  • All the pretentious douches that say "this is just wrong!" never explain why, as though merely adding the word "just" is sufficient reasoning enough.

What exactly constitutes the wrongness of this? Is it because no one else has decided to cover it in this style before? Or is it because of his soaring range of vocals? Or is it the badass instrumentals?

I think you should all lighten up; if it was your best friend playing an instrumental version like this you'd think it'd be awesome.

  • Well shit, I'm with you, lol, I've heard the original, and I think this stacks up pretty well, for being a completely different style

  • this sucks nuuuuuut!

  • Dudes i think it's pretty cool though , but you have to pretend the radiohead version isn't there (=

Allthough i'll stick through radiohead >3

  • The recorded version is good. But not the darkness. This sucks kinda haha

  • this song was NOT meant to be a metal song, god dammit fucking idiots just took it and stabbed it in the back

  • ...Wow...This is awful. I mean...Christ...this is just bad.

  • I like The Darkness, I really like Street Spirit, but by Radiohead. This version stabs the song in the back

  • Holy s**t I thought my friend was joking when he told me about this...it's awful, do Darkness fans actually like this? The last lines of the original mak me cry, this makes me throw up in my mouth

  • hahahahahha lolz lolz lolz lolz...............He's got the vocal range and everything to make it sound good but it sounded like he dgaf.

  • No... this cover was a mistake. I don't have anything against The Darkness, I quite like them, but this cover is WRONG!

  • Hey everyone! Lets pop X and go rave to this song! It will be AWESOME!!! I have no idea what this song is about but this is so tight! DUDE!

  • well.......definatly put there own spin on this....amazing how bad it is but for sum reason it was so bad it was good BUT this is like the only song no one should even try

  • People will now and forever cover radiohead songs. WHY? Because radiohead is the best band ever. Get over it !

I love radiohead and I think the cover was great.

  • Wow.. i cant believe they would actually attempt to touch a song like that. All the meaning and emotion that song had was sucked out of it. I find it hard to believe that any musicians in their right minds would dare to do such a thing like they just did.

  • shut up, faggot.

  • shut kko ur the faggot

  • They rocked it!!

  • this is one of those songs you don't touch.

  • Radiohead is one of my favorite bands but this cover is awesome. They made it their own which any cover should be. Anyone out there heard Radiohead's cover of 'Like a Rhinestone Cowboy' should not bitch about this Darkness cover.

  • they took one of the purest and most emotional songs of all time and completely and utterly ruined it. they should be arrested for crimes against music.

  • what an epically good way to completely murder a song.

    have the darkness cover it.

all theyve done is taken an amazing, moving song, turned it into a fucking wank cheeserock song. its like what that xfactor bint did to hallelujah

    fucks sake.

  • the darkness are amazing man

  • no mate,

    they're really not, sorry.

but they shit on the word music.

  • man, who the fuck are you to tell someone else what they should and shouldn't like

radiohead are my favourite band but ffs seriously there isnt anything wrong with this cover, get over yourselves people

and btw, you think that the despair is gone? this song still has the same mood even all heavy and such

  • srry btw that was a reply to a comment from a while ago....

  • radiohead r gods... but i liked this, i think its cool to hear a radiohead song done so differently.... stop the hate (Y)

  • Good call. When you cover something and it sounds the same...what is the point. Music snobs might complain, but it sounds cool nonetheless.

  • *head explodes*

    please no more

  • Dear god. I don't know what to think of this. It's cool that crazy bands like The Darkness still know what good music is though (as far as what to chose to cover).

  • This is just horrible.

  • you dont knw one shit

  • i know lots of shit, and this cover is one

  • what the hell

  • holy crap.

  • haha this is great

  • Way to take a good Song and Rape it like a hooker left in a ditch. Im sorry but in my eyes unless its supposed to be a joke no one can do Radiohead covers.

  • I like the cover but the quality of this video is just shite

  • ooh I actually like this better than the original I like radiohead and all but I just love the darkness' stlye man too bad justin hawkins left he had a voice

  • Two words: Hot Leg!

  • whats with all the slating of this video? when you click on a radiohead cover done by a glam metal band what do you expect to hear? you may aswell piss on your conflakes then cry about it! i prefer the original obv but to compare the 2 is like saying that one band is better than the other, neither band could pull off the others style. i love both bands so naturaly i think the cover is gr8, if u dont like the darkness dont watch thier videos.. and they played it well.. nonces! honestly! end of.

  • this is terrible. usually i really like cover but that's like taking just killing a beuatiful song.

  • damn right they killed it, f*cked its still-warm corpse and pissed all over it. <3s it.

  • Oh man, that's slaughtering the original. It just sounds a mess. The song doesn't need to be sped up, if you want to turn it into a metal/hard rock song I'd just add distortion as it's a pretty cool riff, but it sounds lame as hell here, especially odd how they play the riff so high as well. The singing is atrocious. He's all over the place. Works in The Darkness songs, but just does not work here.

  • well why don't you do a metal cover of it then, bearing in mind if you play all those open notes with heavy distortion you'd hardly be able to distinguish one from the other.. it would sound crap.

  • open notes? I don't even get what you mean. The song is a chord with a finger picking pattern. The chord changes occasionally throughout the song. I'm only a beginner when it comes to guitar so explain what you mean.

  • If they just played the same open chords as in the proper song using distortion it would sound all muddy and you wouldn't be able to make out the second notes, which is why they changed it into a riff on 1 or 2 strings.

  • this is disgusting.

  • O_o this is sacrilege

    seriously wtf

  • fucking gay.

  • I'm a Radiohead junkie, but I used to love the Darkness. Good cover imo.

  • you cant knock my opinon.

I love this cover because it is diffirent, it is more interesting to listen to, it is powerful and has given it a diffient meaning.

  • crap

  • Best cover ever

  • bloody agree wiv everythin u say!

that was well put and everythin else u sed i agree wiv.. this song is meant to melodic and "eary" not loud and overdriven it takes away the meaning and the beauty!

  • such a powerfull voice in the chorus!

  • Not a big fan of the darkness but i am an avid fan of Radiohead, this was actually alright. I liked how they included one riff from "Just" as well, that was clever.

  • Even if it sounds good, the genre won't match the lyrics. The song I believe was to show darker emotions.

The darkness seems like a bad option to cover this song.

    My 2 cents.

  • the best radiohead cover ever

I'm a fucking big fan of RH, but this cover change the song, make it original and it's so creative .. and so "The Darkness" ... big up Justin !

  • I don't feel like their fucking with it. Their not camping it up, their just amping it up.

I think this version is still true to the intent. The despair is still there. Ultimately, it's artistic interpretation. I, for one, am happy to have heard this, and so are some others. Don't listen if you don't like it. You're wasting time tearing others down. Get off your high horse, mate.

  • radiohead is GOd. Its ok if darkness wants to cover the song. Atleast they are smart enuf to like radiohead. It doesnt sound that bad.

  • maybe in your opinion, but I don't like radiohead's version. It's just a matter of taste I guess.

  • wow, that's a lot of typos. sorry, I'm kind of drunk. I'm still right though!!!

  • Leonardandstuff,

Your are COMPLETELY not getting the joke. Sure, The Darkness was fun and silly but they stay have MAJOR rocking skills. Radiohead is amazing but who wants every band to be sad and serious. Get over it and lighten up.

  • i agree who says rock has to be serious anyway?

  • this is a good version

  • The Darkness are everything I hate about rock music. The showiness. The ego's. The lack of anything important to say. The non existant talent.

Compare this to Radiohead. They are an understated band who don't go in search of the limelight, yet they have had more influence on world music than Justin Hawkins can ever dream of.

This cover wasn't so much brave as it was utterly stupid and ignorant.

  • this just makes me sad.

  • for me as a radiohead fan this makes me cringe. some songs you just dont touch. this is one of them

  • agreed, I respect their appreciation for Radiohead's work, but why Street Spirit? A band like this should be covering other songs on The Bends, like Just maybe...

  • I like the radiohead one, but I'm not always in a chill mood, so I like this one for the times when I want to rock. Not as good, but still a great version

  • I am literally in love with Radiohead. But I truely think this was an awesome cover \m/.

  • Wow, it's a pretty brave spin and it somewhat works. You won't beat the original so why not give it a twist like this? Very nicely done for a cover.

  • I absolutely loved this version. It rocked, it was scorching, it was dark, it was the darkness at its best. those tight-ass powerchords, the vocals... this is better than radiohead's. RH is soft, and are not able to show off this song as it should..
