  • I've heared many versions. LOVE your

  • Hello Guy,

Great version of this wonderful old song. Very appropriate for honoring Sandy and Mike. Thank you also for the description of the tuning.

    Well done,

    -Tom

  • Thanks Tom . I love your channel . Nice to meet you . Guy

  • well done,

can you email me with your thoughts on thumb lead playing.

  • Hey Dick . Do you mean thumb lead on finger picking guitar ? The rhythm feels a bit like frailing banjo to me just inside out when using a thumb pick on guitar!! Il l will look at my clips and see if I have something that shows what I mean .. All the best , Guy

  • Deep, dark, texture, just wonderful......nice work on a very original composition.....KD

  • Thanks Kevin . I like your playing to . Wonderful website as well . Thanks for the visit . All the best , Guy

  • Great to hear from you as always Jim. Have you ever heard Mike Seeger on fiddle ?. He was wonderful at laid back mountain slurs, slides, and drones and was an inspiration on tons of different older banjo styles as well . Thanks for the kind words as always , Guy

  • wow, guy. this is an awesome song. you've done a wonderful job! i think this is one of my favorites now :)

  • Thanks for the very kind words . All the best , Guy

  • What can I say? You never stop to amaze me...fantastic version, Guy!! Love the mystic feeling I get from listening to this. The feeling is eerie in a good way if you understand what I mean. You are the best!!

Really sad about Mike and Sandy are gone :( I got tears in my eyes after you stoped singing and said it was dedicated to them. Music has such power over me and this tune moved me in a different way this time.

  • Anders thanks so much for the friendship here. When you seconded that I should do this song I really got down to the work of it.The whole time I worked on it I kept seeing Mike Seeger and Sandy Paton .Sandy ran Folk Legacy records here in Connecticut and he and his wife Caroline have been so supportive to me over a life time .Mike Seeger's dad lived in the next town south of me and his brother John still lives there . Mikes work with Folkways records and The folklore movement is epic.Yours G.

  • Thanks for requesting this one . Its such a strong piece . I think another few years with playing this song I hope it will grow some more . This version is like when you first meet someone and are being a bit careful what you say . I was thinking of Mike and Sandy the whole time I was learning this .. Thanks to you and Anders for the push !! Yours Guy

  • Very nice, this version reminds me of Dirk Powell, Tim O'Brien, and John Hermann's version on "Songs from the Mountain".... Very rustic, very enjoyable! Thanks for the song!

  • I will go have a listen to them . Thanks for the heads up . This internet thing is amazing . I am learning so much from so many wonderful people. All the best , Guy

  • Beautiful Appalachian art!

  • Thanks for the listen and your work with the kids. My oldest son and I play together some times .. He has an amazing ear and though he plays other styles of music, he enjoys jamming with "The old man " as well .I will have a listen over at your station when its morning . Just clamping up a kiln at the moment .Its a lot later where you are !! All the best , Guy
