This excerpt is really poorly filmed, and the hand gestures are cute but could've been executed much better. I think the main problem is that, in this sextet, the singers really need to keep their wits about them just to get through the piece, technically and musically. Yes, the scene can be very static, but giving them something slightly complicated to do makes the singing of the piece ten times more difficult. Well done, considering.
The singing is quite fine, and I like the highly stylized costumes. I'd have more respect for the silly hand gestures if they didn't look so under-rehearsed.
The singing in this one is better than the Ponelle film clip, but the staging is retarded. The staging in the film is much better, even if lots of the coloratura is aspirated - particularly the Dandini.
Kath, you are right about the coloratura of Dandini's performer, however I think that is the coloratura of Claudio Desderi's voice, if you listen to it, you notice that his timbre doesn't change, I don't kown if you understand me...For example, when you listen to Araiza's coloratura notice it better because his timbre is not the same...
I really admire Claudio desderi because of his voice, his timbre, his vocal tecnic...however, if you like the no-aspirated coloratura and you like Dandini's aria, you should hear Renato Capecchi in the 1972 recording of this opera, in my opinion the best Dandini ever.
fantastici!
