Thank you for the music, it is benefically fantastic, however, but even Tatum can't play the trills that fast, I will take it straight to the piano and try to slow it down as Tatum would have.
You should take this video down. This is not art tatums style at all. This just a stupid computer.Art tatum's expression isn't here at all. You just can't recreate Art Tatums piano playing with a person or computer.
@860125mwj I think the boy should keep it, it's one of the better simulation's I've heard, if it is slowed down it gets to be more authentic, but a person can recreate Tatum, he just has to know how to look and listen. This video is a bit like when using the tape recorder, slightly press the pause button it speeds the music up. I use that wee trick to fill my head with the faster version, then when it is slowed down it gets easier. And you know, that is ok, for as is said, every little helps.
Never intended it to mimic a Tatum performance. It is simply a computer MIDI file which was an arranger's best approximation of the cascade of notes that Tatum improvised to present the melody in his own unique fashion. Still the computer is only a computer and is purely illustrating the extraordinary nature of Tatum's achievement.
some of these chords don't work with the original melody.... i guess thats why he never needed a singer to accompany him. the singer would just hold him back
@EyMeng I believe that's absolutely why Tatum needs the freedom of not having a singer trying to keep up with what he's doing and the chords he wants to play around with.
I still do not understand completely. Exist this recording of this number in reality. Played by Art Tatum? And this recording is simply a reproduction of a transcription?
In response to this last comment about not authenticTatum, the writer is absolutely correct. As someone who has been presenting music in major legal cases for many years, this was intended only as a visual example of the complexity of what this great blind musician could do. This playback is only a transcriber's midi file converted into visible blocks representing playing notes At the same time it can in no way represent the soul and magic of a Tatum performance. Only recordings can do that.
Very nice, but clearly not authentic Tatum. I've been listening to him for decades and have probably heard every single recording. This is a talented player (or composite of multiple performances) but Tatum it is not.
@filistro Go listen to other songs by Art Tatum! That guy is capable of playing at incredible speeds. Also, the overall tempo of this song doesn't actually feel that fast to me.
I've heard the most of Tatum's song. But the problem here is that the fast runs are too fast. I would like to hear his original version of "As Time Goes By"
@bluesinorbit as usual the greatest virtuosity but a little fast for my taste . could be the technology of course which doesn't capture the ' soul ' of the piece . but most interesting , cheers !
Art Tatum would not have played like this. This is totally inaccurate. Not even close.Take this garbage down please.
