  • this happened to me this evening. I thought I was going to have a stroke. It was very scary. I'm young and in very good shape. Blood tests and all. I keep the same diet. But today I had more Coffee than usual, and it probably triggered it, but my sister and father used to suffer from "migraines", possibly a heredity factor. Going to see a neurologist, just to be sure.

  • This is exactly what I experience once every 18 months or so. No pain, just this wierd shimmering light, starting in the centre of vision and slowly moving outwards in a C-shape. It really scared me the first time it happened, but now I know what it is, I'm not so freaked out when it happens. I'd rather have this, than have the headaches that other people get with migraine!

  • it makes me twitch and i feel like theres someone beside me

  • i get nausea and dizziness too

  • after that i got a terrible headache and i could even pinpoint where the hreadache was, i thought it was a stroke or something to do with the retina. it has happened to me 4 more times after that, usually when i have been drinking alcohol, milk, or smoking. thank you, the cheese does make sense to me, i started to think i was allergic to dayry products, and this might be just it, im going to get rid of all of it.

    cheers mate

  • @spacedebry In the vast majority of cases the cause is an allergy , but it can be difficult to pinpoint , but dairy products are chief contenders

  • wow, this has answered many questions!. it happened to me the first time about 5 years ago and i was so scared i didn't know what was going on, it started off me not being able to focus properly after that i felt sick (maybe due to the nerves), and then i started seeing the aura with loads of different pyramid shaped cones of different colours usually flashing,

  • Had no symptoms for the last 15 years or so...5 months ago it came back!!!...and again yesturday....Have no clue what triggered that...

  • ...and it's gone(33 minutes)...now comes the pain , time for the sumatriptan

  • @st2hallock sumatriptan is a magic mushroom chemical analogue without mind expanding properties ;)

  • its happening to me right now.(seriously it truly is) I've been dealing with it for a couple years now, the first time it happened i thought i had a brain tumor or something. After all this time I still can't figure out what triggers it, sometimes it will go six months without happening then sometimes it will happen 3-4 times a month. It still gives me a moment of panic when it sets on, then I take a deep breath and enjoy the light show.

  • @st2hallock yea its scary, I had one today and had one last week, but before that I didnt have one for about 6 months. This is definitely a phenomenon, Its weird the experience varies in characteristics every time. I am dealing with the monstrous head ache that sets on after. Hopefully some kind of medicine is useful. I stick to the Excedrin as soon as I see the baby light forming.

  • I've cut cheese and gluten from my diet and I still get these...and they are more frequent.

  • I had the same symptoms for the last 19 years.... Yes 19 years... Now I'm 47 years old and do my best to kind of get use to it... it does bother me when I have an activity where this will either cancel it or at least delay it... I noticed lately that reading in poor lighting condition will trigger it... in addition to lack of good sleep.

  • @abuown many thanks for your comment !

  • I get a scotoma before a migraine attack and during, but I still have the headache accompanying it.

  • So this is exactly what I have as well - How did you figure out your specific allergy to cheese? Best, Heidi

  • @hamdigitalmedia all down to trial and error

  • you explained the exact thing that happens to me, a flickering cresent that gets really big and vanishes eventually. It was quite scary, i didnt know what was goingo on and i thought i was going to go blind, so my mom took me to the ER and this is what they said it was.

  • @ROXtotheE yes it is a bit scary the first time , but it is not serious and nothing to worry about , just a bloody nuisance at times ... lol

  • This explains a lot. Thank you.

  • the first time it happened to me it started off as the regular zig zaggy thing and got bigger and bigger, then i got a headache along with it, and i got real nauseous and wanted to throw up all day. near the end of the day it got so bad i got tunnel vision in one eye and i thought, this is it, im going blind and i have to tell someone lol. that's when the teacher asked me a question (i was in class) and i slurred my speech and skipped words in my sentences...but my first one was the worst by far

  • yeah! that is true!

  • My best approach for extreme visual migraines with temporarily partial corporal impairment is to try and not panic. Swirling colors within a blind spot should have a pattern of how it "moves" from A to B, so you could study and predict its path. To me the strange intense fearfulness from the suspense of these visual phenomenons, is partly involved to your body's natural response to such disturbances and sorta triggers an impulse of emotional distress and cry for help, doctor, etc. Any Thoughts?

  • @nightventure good comment !

  • @wxpm Thank you sir! Thought I would share some of my knowledge from what I've been "seeing" for quite some time.

  • hi i been having something simlare for the last 17 years i dubed a [ visual anolaly ] original started out small ether eye then grew to a a ball of colored tryangles.then a few years back it progresed to a small energetic dot ....as the zig zag lines grew it took on a creasent shap till it grew so big i could no longer see it.

last one was monday 8-30-10 had it in my dream had to wake up to deal with it.thanks for the post peace fred heidrick
