chicken liver is fatty acid based chain of protein.. yes they can eat it but its not good if you gave them a bit too much.. dangerous weight gain just by feeding it that stuff because i saw it 1st hand, when i weighed him he was about 568.2g.. he could not move very well.. best advice stick to its natural diet..

Hey dude, Mind if I ask something? When you feed your tokay with chicken liver, for how long before it reaches 500gms and its length? How many times a day you feed it with that stuff?

@nyslorkan like i said its not best feeding them the stuff, its acid based chain of protein when digested in the long run it would give them bad juju.. but anyways, how long it will reach your desired weight? answer: it depends on how many time you give it, how large or small a quantity will you be giving him/her. not to mention the quality of it. How many times? Never day to day basis, NEVER.. in a week just one in the morning and next 3 days do it at night again..

okay dude, my sister was given one from the wild.. and we are not sure if it can eat flesh or not? the guy that gave her said they feed it chicken liver... is that advisable? i know insects for sure.. and also someone mentioned gerbil.. ummm not sure. let me know. my sister lives in SE asia... she is stoked about the gecko tho...

well I'm glad you asked. do not feed it any of those things. tokay geckos should eat insects only. they will eat roaches, crickets, wax worms, some beetles, and maybe meal worms. they do prefer crickets though. make sure whatever insects your are feeding to it that they are dusted with calcium supplement. your sister should do as much research as possible as the tokay gecko isn't the greatest beginner gecko. let me know if you have any other questions!

@alexmortillaro awesome, thanks for the reply man. she just got a terrarium and we got the insects.. hehe. on the process of getting the calcium supplement. also, can crushed calcium tablets be used?

not a problem at all. I'd really advise that she use specific reptile supplements only. I use what's called reptocal which includes very specific ingredients that lizards need to keep their bones healthy. reptile supplements will last a very long time because very little needs to be used. just dust the crickets etc with it twice a week. just putting it out there, when crickets and other insects are dusted, it's called "gut loading". again let me know if you have any other questions.

that's quite the collection.

I wouldn't argue the fact that there are other foods that they can eat that may be beneficial to their health, but when someone asks about what they SHOULD feed their gecko, I'm going to tell them the recommended foods that they SHOULD eat, not what they CAN eat. they are insectivorous as you may know. I'll probably stick to feeding mine insects and the occasional hand feed mashed fruits with supplement.

yes you can tame them, you just have to start holding them more frequently even if you need to use gloves, they will pretty much stop attacking you. once you have them in your hand, be gentle with it, but don't allow it to bite off your fingers and you should be good.
