  • @djtino04 nah billy danze did

  • @djtino04 You serious? One of, if not, the best track on the album. Jim Jones goes in, bro.

  • @djtino04 Come on brah, this is one of the best tracks on the whole album. Jim Jones goes hard on this.

  • @djtino04 I gotta wholeheartedly disagree with you. Say what you will about some of his other work, he's perfect on this song.

  • i love this music blues and hip hop great mixx if they only got ja rule on a track

  • @chavezboo ja rule? get outta town

  • @jadajean05 you still riding 50 dick hes dead ja rule is a soulful artist with a voice of pain and hardship dumb asses like you got stuck on that fifty crap and couldnt get off the band wagon ...bitch ass

  • @chavezboo lol nice reasoning there chav. i don't like commercial crap like ja rule so i must like someone just as shitty? pftt please. i listen to real hip hop - talib, nas, black thought, elzhi etc etc. ja rule isn't even on the radar fool.

    enjoy your hip-pop lil wayne

  • @jadajean05 what did you forget nas did the album with puffy talib is over rated rapper and the other under ground crap you are muttering about doesnt even count real hip hop nigga please everyone on this black roc album has or went pop you need to get over yourself tired of you fake ass fools talking about what hip hop sounds you go to concert and start riding nuts ..i said ja rule can get on this album given the chance hell blow jim jones out the water talib shut the hell up...

  • @chavezboo You're killing hip hop. Stay in school.

  • @jadajean05 naw bro just tired of chumps like you get on a band wagon and cant let aside the hype and you shut your ears to what sounds good ..get over yourself

  • @chavezboo you listen to ja rule. you wouldn't know what sounds good if it slapped you across your commercial studio gangster face. take your ja rule & lil wayne shite and leave hip hop alone chump.

  • @chavezboo eardrum is one of the greatest albums in the past 10 years and you're saying Talib is overrated? His flow is dope as shit and his lyrics are straight truth and fure. Him and Mos are legends and "Listen" OUTBUMPS any radio bullshit. Shit is one of the best produced tracks of all time. Go pick up an MPC and a mic, then maybe you'll understand what it takes to be an MC.

  • There is a lot of great new music out there. The big companies are not the only ones putting stuff out. Talented artists are using their own money, putting out their own shit, and calling their own shots. They don't need a big f*cking contract with a major label to get their music out to the world. It is a new age. Ciaran646, you're entitled to your opinion, but if you think the Black Keys are a "tired blues ripoff act" you're crazy. Wake up!

  • this shiz is so dam hot Im scared to touch it

    ;-)

Uk release is mixed slightly different tho !

  • Man, that's good. it just flows with a hypnotism that you can't get with hip hop that doesn't use real instruments

  • They Can Even Make Jim Jones Sound Good lol

This Album Is So Diverse It's Beautifu.l I Been A Fan Of The Keys And Mos Def For Forever And I Never Woulda Thought They Would Of Done This.

Every Song on The Album Is Niiice

  • bless you jizamez.

  • Blakroc instrumentals on my page, check em out people. I'm updating it every couple days with each track from the album.

  • "Most say Im politically incorrect, But most people scared they spit it so indirect."

  • Loving this ! Classic

  • gotta love the black keys

  • who thinks mos def sounds a lot like dan when he sings here ?

  • I love your screen name for some reason.

  • Cause space tit's never sag.

  • HAhaaaaaaa

  • MOS DEF.... great vocals as usual. The man can turn dirt into gold.

  • @xmedical420Marijuana

    Dirt!!!

    You have no idea. Clueless!

  • i think it was a compliment dude

  • @xmedical420Marijuana true but this wasnt dirt to start with . . .

  • @xmedical420Marijuana you mean gold into platinum! cause black keys ain't dirt.

  • @bluntobjct you mean platinum into diamonds son

  • @xmedical420Marijuana this would have been gold with or without him. that detracts nothing from either artist, I love them both

  • I agree Jim jones and billy danze arent the most lyrical mc's around,

but i really think they sound great over these instrumentals, especially danze

  • To my ears, both Jones and Danze work on this album overall. Jones flow fits well with the music, and Danze gruffness contibutes to the record's grittiness. The more I listen to the entire album, the more I love it.

  • nothing is original.... whoever said that is wrong what they should have said was nothing is original these days... which isnt entirely true... but im getting off subject .. love this song. Jones did the unexpected. But something is very confusing. def is talkin about a girl nd jim soundz like hes talkin bout his life.. how does the hook tie in with the lyrics.. just a humble music scholar.. i ment no disrespect. but i kno u utube asswholes are still gunna get at me foul

  • i love this album

  • i hope jim jones stays in this mindstate and stays away from the bullshit he always makes, anyone agree? cuz he did pretty decent here

  • pure heart.

  • FUCK DAME DASH

THIS IS THE REAL BLAKROC OnyxMadTube . com

  • I love this shit!

  • they didnt promote this album at all.

the actually people who bought it said it was great, but promotion sucked

it sold worse than jim jones last album

  • @dsjj251 Dash wanted to do heavy promotion, but I think Dan Auerbach decided not too. Which is cool, it shows they don't really care about the money or fame...it's just the music.

Besides, most of the people who actually understand this music have already found the album. All promoting would do is put it in the hands of a bunch of mindless sheep who follow the latest trend.

  • I have mixed feelings about this. I kinda dread what would happen if the current MTV/VHI crowd got their paws on this music, but I wonder if the overall quality of popular music might improve if more like this was in circulation out there.

  • they better have the instrumental version 2 this joint up somwhere

  • as a 46 olde fart up here sum 41 world around the corner from neil young ave. i must say this tracks got a great groove going on as for the rapping/singin it's all goode

  • I have a theory, maybe a bit harebrained, but hear me out: Those who come on YouTube to make negative remarks about recent music that's better than the other 99 percent of recent releases are actually lazy music industry execs in disguise who don't want higher-quality music to succeed. I know it sounds paranoid, but at least it's a more entertaining thought than these people just have bad taste.

  • Mos Def sounds damn good--that's soul, not a "silly attempt" at anything. He's his own and it goes very well with the Keys' music and Auerbach's chorus. I think Jones' part falls into place nicely too. Great song.

  • The only part of this song that isn't that good is jim jones. Mos def should have been the one raping, since he is one of the greatest of all time.

  • Gotta disagree. Of course, Mos is a superior rapper, but to me, JJ's rhyming and voice fits perfectly with the music.

  • Cash rules everything around me

  • As if rock doesn't have deep roots in that age-old subject. And how can you expect to be taken seriously as a judge of what's good from a genre when you've just completely dismissed it?

  • 98 percent of rap is bullshit. and that is a fact. these rappers claim to be musicians, but they don't even play instruments, or come up with their own beats. they sample other peoples work and call it "original" or a "new sound". Its bullshit. They must ramble the first words that come into their heads, and most of the time its just bragadocious bullshit. Long stream exposure to mainstream rap can not be a good thing and is not a good thing. I believe it is dumbing down the black culture.

  • How does the work on this album resemble most of mainstream rap? If you'd actually listen to Jim Jones lyrics here you'd understand he's talking about the price of becoming rich and famous and a commodity (and yes, there's a price).

  • Also, he's rapping about where he came from. And it's probably true he might be selling drugs otherwise, that is if he'd be lucky enough not to be in jail for that reason.

  • yea but rappers have to mention that shit in EVERY song they do. some actual lyrical variety would be nice, but honestly most rappers aren't very talented lyricist.

  • If we're going to continue generalizing, neither are most mainstream rock artists, imo, their guitars are just loud enough to cover that fact. It's a problem of too many musicians in general willing to sell themselves out to record execs.

  • i agree with mainstream rock. its horrible. fucking horrible. like hinder and nickelback, that shit is the worst of all time. but the fact is, their are way more mainstream rappers then there are underground rappers, and when it comest o indie rock, there is more variety and actual substance.

  • That's funny you said Nickelback cause I was thinkin of that band in my above reply. But before I get too far off track, there are some great, independent underground rappers out there, one of them being Immortal Technique. Raekwon is also amazingly talented, as is Mos, and while those two may not quite be considered underground, they're also far and above most of the mainstream crap out there.

  • How are you shitting on rap with a handle like dudemandingo. Mandingo has all sort of negative black stereotypes attached. I agree that a lot of rap is subpar but what genre of art isn't. You look at any form of art or life in general and most people are just below or average at best. There are only a few artist really doing anything relevant. If the guy playing the triangle in an orchestra is a musician then a turntablist or producer is. It takes skill and talent to do both.

  • I'm not a musician but a visual artist and every artist takes from others. The saying is "Good artist borrow, great artist steal". As long as the artist brings something new to what they're sampling and makes it their own I wouldn't call it stealing but there is a fine line between sampling another artist and stealing. I think the reason it's so hated in music is because of the money involved.

  • who ever came up with that saying obviously had not individual creative ability

  • Picasso. I think he had a little creativity. Nothings original Mandingo. Wait let me guess you are right?

  • nothing is original I know this, but blatant ripoffs are idiotic, especially when they're worse.

  • So who exactly is Blackroc ripping off? I hate to use the word hater but you are starting to sound like one. You don't seem to have an argument and you're just generalizing an entire genre based off of mainstream artist. You sound like the old white men I work with that don't like hip hop or new rock even though they never listen to either and only know of the artist they see on MTV, BET and base their hatred off of the same 20-30 artist those channels play over and over.

  • I actually like Blakroc, their not ripping off anybody, I just think some of the rappers they got are mediocre. They could have dug a little deeper into the rap underground to get a few more that actually did'nt talk about money or the "hood" every other verse.

  • I would think Dame prolly had a lot to do with what rappers they worked with.

  • Point 1: True, there are some "mediocre" emcees, Jim Jones and Billy Danze really aren't worthy, maybe the choice was Dame Dash's responsibility... which would explain everything! I like Mos and Pharoahe, but they're too obvious and I think they're still both living off the Rawkus hype. DOOM would have been perfect, and just imagine a real veteran like Finnesse over one of these beats! Maybe Del or Aesop for an abstract touch.

  • First off...GREAT POINTS! It's refreshing that people use the comment section to actually comment something worthwhile. Secondly...I disagree with some of your points. 1)There will ALWAYS be "mediocre" artists, in all genres of music rather it be Hip-Hop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical etc. so I think that should already be understood 2) Are you saying MD and PM are too obvious b/c they're considered successful "conscious" Hip-Hop artists and Del The Funky Homosapien isn't?

  • There are some whos only knoledge of independent hiphop starts & ends with the very "trendy indie" Rawkus records. I'm sure the Black Keys have a very diverse taste in music & know alot more about hiphop than most would think, BUT, PM&MD are simply the obvious choice because they were probably the 2 that benefitted the most from the exposure of Rawkus records. Not that it has any baring on their ability, but there's alot of these fake hiphop lovers who would list there top artists startin with:

  • Tupac,

    Biggie,

    Pharoahe Monche,

    Mos Def...

    It's all just too obvious.

Let me know if the first message came through... this should be the third.

My point about Del was more about his style rather than his content... again, I mentioned something in the first message (which I'm pretty sure hasn't come through) about "mediocre", and the only emees I don't rate on the album are Danze and Jones.

  • I gotta say, I think Jim Jones comes through with flying colors on this album. His rapping may sound clumsy in other contexts, but imo, it fits perfectly with the Keys' soulful music.

  • Point 2: Just as you praise the "indie" rock scene, likewise there is a huge indie Hiphop scene. Independent Hiphop is probably at it's most active, full of artits trying to rekindle the essence, and move things on. Some staying true to the funk and jazz influences, while others moving in completely different directions, but all progressively.

  • I kinda disagree here too. I think you're confusing Independent Hip-Hop with Underground Hip-Hop. Independent Hip-Hop artists don't exclusively attempt to rekindle the essence of Hip-Hop but retain monetary and creative control of their music. On the flip side, Underground Hip-Hop artists work under the guise of consciousness and/or a nostalgic mindset (which most times mean non-mainstream). But I do agree that it is all progressive in one way or another.

  • RE:pt2 "independent" is simply a status. If an artist is indepenent, he/she works independently of any major record label contract. This too has no baring on ability or the concepts within their music. So of course, you're right, rekindling the essence isnt in the job despcription for all independent artists. However, in these times where used & abused, watered-down hiphop is the biggest selling genre on the planet, the true essence of hiphop is only held by artists who are generally independent

  • Again, not saying that all independent hiphop artists are attempting to rekindle the essence, just the ones I like :)

You're saying that "underground" artists, with their "consious" or nostalgic styles are attemting this, no? That too of course is a generalisation, and a bit of a misconception. Afterall, the term "underground" is subjective, what does it mean? Non-mainstream? Isn't that similar the "indepndent" satus, something that has no baring on styles or concepts.

  • Part of what I've found so refreshing about this album is the lyrical difference from typical rap. It seems that when the artists do address the usual topics, they do so in a much more clever and thoughtful manner. I also actually saw one person on some website complain about Billy Danze's use of the phrase "lavish bitch," although I was actually impressed because I believe this is the only lyric on the entire album that uses the word bitch as a derogatory reference to a female.

  • Point 3: Its just as easy to generalise indie rock as it is to generalise hiphop. You have artists like The Killers who are bizarely considered as indie rock, but how can they be considered independent when theyre signed to one of the biggest multi-billion dollar record labels out there? The same damn label as Jay Z, the most over-rated over-hyped poorest representation of hiphop! I agree with tuopvm, 95% of artists are average or below. The top 5% - of any genre - are truely worth lsitenng to.

  • Let me ask you something if I may b/c you've raised some interesting points. Why is that when an "independent" aritst/band becomes successful, they're no longer considered "independent"? Secondly, please back up your statement of JayZ being over-rated and over-hyped because I just don't get it. He is a lyrical genius. You just can't deny that! You may not like the exposure BUT that doesn't take away from his talent. If he was underground, you KNOW you'd be on his dick! :)

  • RE:pt3. For this I'll have to go back to my response to your comment on my last point... if that makes sense? "independent" if an artist is usigned or signed to an indie label, then he/she is indie, whether he/she is successful or not. Maybe some are considered "sell-outs", but then that's just a matter of opnion, and independance has nothing to do with opininon. You could have mentioned peoples dislike of signed artists, which would be a good debate, but then of course you have Illmatic! :)

  • radio play please?

  • I'm actually torn on that one. I'd love nothing better than to see this album outsell shlock, but I have a suspicion that if radio and MTV/VHI started playing stuff from this album they'd ruin it somehow.

  • What are people objecting to in what I said? That most mainstream music is crap? I wanted to see Blakroc as album of the year, but am I wrong to worry about the industry co-opting and watering down high-quality music to make a buck?

  • @karcer09 amen to that. too many ppl confuse success and selling out.

  • @karcer09 Dude, I totally agree with you, you are entitled to your opinion, and I guess the ''opposition'' is too :)

  • @karcer09 spot on mate

  • Mos just was nominated for a Grammy for his latest album "The Ecstatic" - which is awesome - so I'm not sure you know what you're talking about, Zodiac.

  • you realise a speedball is worht more than a grammy, right?

  • ???

  • mos cant sing? please. cop the cadillac records sound track.

  • who convinced mos def that he should be a singer and not a rapper?

  • wth mos def has been singing & rapping since his first album

  • i can't remember if he sung on that blackstar album, but that's not even the point. on black on both sides he had that one terrible song about rock n roll where he was singing, and then the next album was like 90% terrible rock with singing, and then i really stopped giving a shit about him.

  • The New Danger is a beautiful album.listen to "The Panties" or "Modern Marvel".if your looking for more straight up hiphop try "Champion Requim" "Sunshine" or "Close Edge". That album has everything.and yes he sung on the blackstar album, mostly backround vocals tho.i imagine that you only like rap music? thats fine. but dont be so ignorant. he is an artist in the purest. that song about rock and roll? its about the black musicians who MADE rock and roll and dont get credit... educate yourself.

  • i love it when people over the internet pretend they know your whole life story and everyone of your preferences, and know EXACTLY what must be done.

i like rock music, which is why i dont accept mos def's silly attempt at it. "rock and roll" has that extreme reactionary position about it... just because chuck berry was great doesnt mean that elvis is a piece of shit. saying "elvis presley aint got no soul" is about as dumb as people who dont give bo diddley credit.

  • Well, if you're going to come on here and take a dump on some of the best music all year, be prepared to defend your tastes. Blanket statements get blanket reponses. Give an example of recent music you actually do like so those of us who see the genius in this album (as well as Mos's other recent work) have some kind of reference point.

  • i dont know why youre so defensive, i didnt say this was whole album was terrible or anything like that, i just said i dont like his singing. people feel like i'm talking about their mothers. relax.

and how is "i don't like his singing" a blanket statement? it's pretty specific.

i thought black on both sides had a few good songs, like "mathematics" obviously. but that song "rock and roll" is bad, like every sing / rock / yell mos def song ever.

  • The blanket statement was that you stopped giving a shit about Mos' music after Blackstar. His latest album is great. And you said you like rock music, but I'm not sure you have any understanding of its history. I don't take those things personally, though, because it's your loss, imo.

  • you know a blanket statement is something extremely general, right? saying "i like his first two albums then i didn't like his third" is pretty fucking specific. but whatever.

i don't have any understanding of its history? haha, ok, educate me!

i don't think mos has any real understanding of its history. his idea of black=good, white=bad is oversimplifying at best, racism at worst. if you don't see how rock and roll was a collaboration between black and white artists, YOU dont get history

  • Iya Iya I against I

  • Black people gave birth to rock... that's a fact. But if Mos thought everything white is bad, he never would have teamed up with the Keys. I've never heard Mos say what you attribute to him above, but I agree with him about Elvis, a known racist who raped black music to become "the King."

  • this album is amazing

  • fuck jim jones

  • it's safe to say jim jones really surprised us all, he was great on both songs he was featured on

  • Jay Z sucks, hip hop has took a new direction no doubt...all i can say is groundbreaking. perfect combo, i love mos, and im sorry to say but i didn't know Jim Jones had it in him, he is surprisingly sick on this track.

  • fresh soulful sounds! hip hop moving on!!

  • seriously hope mos def and black keys continue to work together in the future. mos has that haunting voice that fits black keys dirty blues sound perfectly.

  • wow, arguing on youtube - that's original.

every single artist on this collab is/are dope. just relax!

  • christ when i first saw this i thought that blacrock was the black keys with mos def and jim jones and i was like ZOMGFG. then checked out wikipedia and its a collabo with a bunch of hip hop artists. n wait a fucking second how is there a track with ODB on this? well interesting. if rza and ludacris weren't on this (and nore and mop hadn't associated themselves with eminem) would still be 5 fucking stars. but how is a DEAD guy on the first track? i'll give it a chance, NEways. :-/

  • Zack De La Rocha!!!!! and Black Keys!!!!

  • this is bull crap they dont have this song on myspace?!?! BUT TIGHT SONG DUDES!

  • someone said it on here so I'm not taking credit but could you imagine cee lo on this also.

  • blakroc already got the Jay-Z they need, NOE. he's better than Jay in my opinion

  • This is fucking groovy.

  • this is amazing

  • FUCK JAY Z!!! why is it new york hip hop artists are always overshadowed...i dont see what the big deal is about his music...there are a handful of hip hop artist that are much better...mos def being one of them...

  • I agree on most of what you said, but - only a handful better rappers than Jay Z?

IMO, Jay aint even top 50.

Sure, he is superb at making emotional pop for the masses, but when it comes to making straight up dope rap - he is nothing but medicore.

  • I don't know how Mos Def can be overrated when most people say Jay is the best already and most people don't even know 'Mos or just know him as an actor...Mos is sick.

  • everyone knows mos def. and its not about how many people know them.

  • Sorry bud, you're not gonna get any angry comments, you're entitled to your opinion... though I recommend you listen to a LOT more hip hop, maybe you'll actually be able to make a better formed opinion.

  • I'm not asking for angry comments, where has that come from? And yes, I am entitled to my opinion. An opinion which is based on my listening to hiphop since the age of about 5. Mos Def is not terrible, he's just another average conscious rapper. He hasn't done an awful lot for the progression of hiphop, and him doing a collab with the black keys, a fucking tired blues rip off act kinda proves that.

  • The black keys are A) not a "tired blues rip off act," but one of the driving forces behind the continuation of the blues genre, nor B) Tired, as their last album was completely different from their others... If you want to have an opinion, you should probably listen to the bands you trash. And Jay-Z? I mean he's a good mainstream rapper, somewhere above Lil' Wayne. Nowhere near the likes of rappers like Talib Kweli or Mos Def or anyone in Wu-Tang for that matter.

  • I have listened to them, they arent progressive in the slightest, they're boring and pretty much everything they do has been done before. You're dismissing jay-z as a mainstream rapper because he sells, without having to compromise/market himself. Mos Def is trying to sell records by jumping on the conscious rapper bandwagon, and talib kweli is a self indulgent cunt. And i fucking love wu-tang, one of my favourite hiphop acts and the solo shit is sick too so dont give me that.

  • Try and name a song on their first and last album that sound similar. You can't , partially because you've clearly never listened to them, but mostly because their style has changed dramatically. Their last album was produced by Dangermouse, who is far from blues. And no, I say Jay-z is mainstream because of lyrics like "You should know I bleed blue, but I ain't a crip, though/But I got a gang of niggas walking with my clique, though" Rhyming a word with itself is completely mainstream rap.

  • conforming to specific non-generic conventions like what consists of "mainstream" music is a lot worse. jay has always made the music he wants to make, he doesnt comprimise. ok, his last album is for the most part whack because of the lame collaborations and mediocre beats, but you cant criticise his lyrics and delivery. and dangermouse liked jay-z enough to remix an album worth of his shit.

  • Which, ironically enough, was better than the original. I always opt to listen to the Gray Album over Black, because Jay-z's lyrics and delivery have both been too weak to carry a full album since Blueprint.

  • I love discovering new shit! This is remarkable!! This is the Jim Jones I would listen too... REGULARLY! DOpe combo Mos and Jones is like salt and vinegar potato chips and a orange fanta!

  • @ikaican haha, salt and vinegar potato chips with an orange soda!

  • Could u imagine if Jay was on this?

  • Pick this UP!

  • pureeeeee hearrrrrtttttt.....dis my shit

  • I need this CD! Payday tomorrow!

  • oh my god... this is one of the most perfect things ever created. seriously. shit's up there with bacon and cigarettes.
