look, if you put in google ''gulf stream stoped'' you will see many articals going back a few years ago talking about how the Uk will become much colder with more snowfall, I was telling people this 3 years ago. The gulf stream that keeps the UK mild in the winter has stoped! this is big news that I knew would happen, and no one is talking about it. Get ready for even colder longer winters in the very near future.

@tealmarlin ive been saying exactly the same for years, even though im only 17 now! even though the atlantic is still pretty warm around the uk since its going to take a while to cool down! but thats not the most worrying thing to do with colder winters ahead, its the activity on the sun! i dont know how much you know on this but the sun is still in a solar minimum which it should have ended nearly 4 years ago! the sun is the quietest since the maunder minimum when the thames froze solid!

I think you should change the 'it rarely snows in london' bit mate, snowed big in feb 09 then a bit in Nov then again several times in december, new years eve, then for nearly a week in january 2010 again a bit in later in jan?early feb, did it in march but didnt stick much. it even snowed a bit in october and april 08! in april it stuck! im telling you past 6 years theres a pattern keep seeing more of it and thats the way it should be the way it used to anyway.

@sallyfieldrequired Rarely snows in London and settles. This was in Feb 09. Definitely never seen snow in October or November. Maybe else where but not central London. I lived there for 29 years and I probably saw snow maybe five times. Pretty rare :)

@sallyfieldrequired Im afraid your just wrong there if last winter taught us anything its that its not rare and it definateltely snowed on I think it was the 28th october 2008 in islington and hackney and other areas ddint settele but snowed, it was the first october snow in london in scince the 1940's. the first time it snowed in the winter of 09 was definately late november.and it most be more than five times beacause there must of been two big ones in 2009 at the beginning and end.

My Grandpa's Australian and My Grandma's English--I was visiting them that year during the Winter in London (God I was in Heaven--Sweet London, they should make a awesome song about it here in America) I remember, we stood right there in that spot, we listened to Big Ben ring--and I thought: How lucky we are to live in such a beautiful world--especially in London. But now I'm stuck back in Alabama (Ugh, so hot)...can't wait till next winter when I go back!!! YAAAAAY!

2 years ago in athens the tempature was like -4 in central athens and -15 around it was cool ! it was snowing just like that ! btw in athens snow a lot every 3-4 years! its cool!

@malakakismeno31 it doesnt they got like over a foot for 2 years in a row. the average january temperature for london is 4.3c for athens its 12.5. london gets on average 4 decent snowfalls each year, athens gets on average one every 3 years :)

@kensington25 Yeah, it is worth it when it snows. I am not too keen on Summer to be honest, quite dull - just sun and that's it. Whereas Spring has all the new wildlife, Autumn has the orange/brown tree leaves all falling off the trees (except evergreens of course!) and Winter has snow, frost and fog/mist.

Nice vid that was the best snowfall in London since Jan 1987 although a lot less people saw it as an excuse to take time off work back then.....LOL

Best of all though is we can expect another good pasting over the next few days, keep your eye on the forecast tonight.

Makes it even more special in the run up to Christmas as well.

Dude, it snows a little as good as every year and a decent snowfall settled for a day (though not grinding everything to a halt admittedly) the first year I moved to London, I think 2002.

You get snow but it rarely settles in central London. I wish it was less of a rarity but sadly as London is not used to snow it pretty much comes to a standstill :)

I remember this like it was yesterday. Such an epic moment. Being stranded at home lool. It felt odd not going to Uni and travelling in London, it literally was a stand still. I didn't even have any winter boots to go out with. The ice afterwards was dangerous, only thing i didn't like about it. It didn't all melt till a week after.
