  • Drinking and driving: it evidently turns your car into that bomb the Green Goblin threw at his board of directors in the Spider-man movie.

  • A most powerful PSA about drinking and driving. Too bad they don't air these anymore.

  • Michael Jackson didn't drink and drive and he's a skeleton!! lol

  • just beat it-michal Jackson

  • i saw this when i was like 4 or 5...scared the bejeezus outta me! and i know i was young, but i'm still fairly certain i saw it during saturday morning cartoons, or at least during kids' programming, hahaha. gotta love the 80s.

  • OMG!!!! ii rlly got scared dhiiz iz very scaryyy!!!!!!! ii wannaa cry :'(

  • I was 9 years old when I saw this commercial for the first time in 1984 & it scared me but I understood what it meant.

  • Kids, remember -- NEVER shake hands with a skeleton!

  • Redo this in a more modern format - and upgrade the effects so they do not scream "1980s", and this could well stand next to "Same Day".

  • The skeletons in the car make it look like a promo for a haunted carnival ride.

  • Creepy, but really good.

  • my sister said she was scared of this commercial as alittle girl, lol\

  • Lesson here: if you're gonna drink, drink responsibly.

This was a good commercial...liked the 'Beat It' theme that was put with this.

  • I like the Michael Jackson song Beat It playing in the background. :) Very nice choice of song, too. :)

  • Me: Hey, are you good to drive?

Drunk friend: Yeah. See ya later! *drives off*

    Me: Be careful!

Narrator: "If you don't stop your friend from drinking and driving..."

Me: *has violent heart attack and collapses*

Narrator: "...you're as good as dead."

  • It didn't specify if you'd be "dead dead" or "livng dead" so in acctuallity they could be ok.

  • wow. so dramatic.

  • Im laughing my ass off ! not to offend folks but the skeleton thing at the end always made me laugh since i was a kid in the early 8o's. I love it thanks for posting this !

  • this looks like a psa for halloween

  • I can't stop laughing ! G00d Stuff

  • I remeber this ad from the 1980s and it used to scare THE LIVING %$#@ out of me!!! After seeing this ad, and others like it, I have to say, the ad did its job!! I never have driven drunk and I never will. The ad still does kinda give me the willies.....

  • Deleted scene from Army of the Dead

  • I think it would have been better if the drunk driver had been the only skeleton in the car.

  • so hes friends with a skeleton

  • Drinking and driving has become a prerequisite, to become an a life of a tennage to young adults with driving drunk in a hangout could get us into a car crash with Hades!

  • the only reason i'm favoriting this is because it has mj's beat it :D

  • sweet! they used beat it! my fave mj song! :D

  • O.o Good song though

  • Hate to say it but these messages do some good but not much. Drinking and driving has become a prerequisite to become President in this country. It is a right of passage parents brag about to their kids how drunk they used to get. And the ones that don't brag come home with a snoot full and swoon around the house showing the kids just what a good old sport they are. And this is a fact Jack as American as Apple Pie.

  • Damn that's creepy!

    RIP MJ <3

  • wow. i was a little girl when this came out and it scared the crap out of me! i remember whenever this was on the television, i would hide my face and peak out just a little bit until it was over.

  • @lovemusic7733 I did the same thing when Smokey Bear would come on. Damn bear, now I'm afraid of forests, lol.

  • mattlogan2009 i have this download on july 6th 2009. this was like the world was over i think i was to afraid to see this one from the 80's i was not around yet when it was released. at the end of it were they alive why did they had hair on them when they were turn to skeletons?

  • It was made and posted before he died, I think that it was made in the 1980's and it was posted aug 6th, 2007

  • I remember seeing this commercial when I was a kid and to me it was like a movie trailer.

  • I don't understand the meaning of the living hand and the dead one shaking?

  • Thats sad. Playing MJ's ''Beat It" right after he just died!!

  • This commercial's pretty old, he was still alive back then. But now, it is sorta ironic, lol.

  • It is kinda ironic

But, I still respect the King of Pop

    R.I.P Michael Jackson

  • he doesnt care, he's too busy burning in hell.

  • For what, the empty accusations of molestation or making a music video with zombies in it?

  • LOL'D

  • that was cool!

  • I remember this... creepy... not as creepy as the old austrailian AIDS commercial, but creepy nonetheless

  • Was that the 'Grim reaper bowling' one?

  • the sick reality is that your skeletons will be troubled by muggy gales because you will be so drunk that your windshield will be GONE

  • 0:22

scene looks like an Nuclear Explosion!!!

  • They should post this again, still people are drinking and driving today.

  • It is a Cool Classic Commercial.

I didnt see this Commercial long long time.

Thank you for posting this TV Spot.

  • OH YEA!!! I still remember this one from the mid-1980s! I was hoping it was here!! Creepy!!

  • What? No "Thriller"?

  • @GreatMewtwo the bones are the closest.

  • The Ad council had the nerve to run this during the Fat Albert Christmas Special. I had a phobia of skeletons for years thanks to this!

  • Way to scar kids for life.

  • that gave me the heebies

  • This commercial used to give me the "church giggles"... enjoyed seeing it again...

  • I saw this when I was young, in the early 80's. It scared the heck out of me then, but now, it sends a strong message.

  • I was born in 1979, so I was about 4 when I first saw this. We had this 19" Black/white TV and it was right before the show Cheers came on one evening. When I first saw it, I was traumatized. Not as bad as some kids might have been. I didn't loose any sleep from it. But I remember being scared to drink anything in the car. Mom laughed and said that it only meant if you are drinking the 'bad-drinks' your Dad drinks. It nevered bothered me afterwards. This commercial should've been Rated R. LOL!!

  • @nicholasawright I was born in 1979 too.

  • I remember that, scared me too!

  • Yeah, they're going to a new place all right! I'm glad I found this PSA. I first saw it when I was in the 1st grade 1984-1985.

  • this commercial scared me too, but it got results, be safe out there

  • I think that's Jud Nelson in the letterman's jacket.

Wasn't there another one of these ads that had kids in it had American Pie by Don McLean playing in the background?

  • I remembr this commercial. It used to scare the crap out of me.

  • Wow, that's pretty heavy.

  • The actor with dark hair and glasses is Donde Bastone. His father, Ron Bastone, was a screenwriter, actor, and director in LA. I worked with him in a few plays in the late 1970's at the Hollywood Actor's Theatre.

  • bravo guy...

i have been looking for this psa for years!!

to my knowledge it played right up until at least 1997

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I have been looking for this commercial for about 20 years! Used to scare the heck out of me as a little kid.

  • Ever since I saw this video I started to listen to Michael Jackson "Beat it." my friend and I were driving in his car and when he turned on his car we were turned into skeletons.

  • Are you one of the actors appeared in that PSA?

  • I wish but I was born in 1983 so I was a few months old back then. But we need these commericals back in our televisions.

  • Ever since I watched this video I started to listen Michael Jackson "Beat it".

  • "Beat It" by Michael Jackson

    Courtesy of: Epic Records.

That's what it should be added with the end part that said, "Drinking and Driving Can Kill a Friendship."

  • Heh, did anyone read Matt's review of this ad on X-Entertainment?

  • Actually we should say,

    "I/WE CHOOSE NOT TO DRINK."

  • TOO COOL!!!!

  • Repeat this statement over and over again...

    "WE/I CHOSE NOT TO DRINK."

  • michael jackson in the background...the '80s could blow the fucking shit out of you

  • Cool PSA. I remember this one on late-night TV when stations had more local programming - movies, etc. - instead of moronic infomercials. We definitely need more of these. The 'crashing glasses' spot was also great.

Thumbs up for this excellent work.

  • I totally agree with your statement. Infomercials are a waste of time.

  • For the longest time, my sister used to be afraid of listening to "Beat It" in the car. She thought this would happen. I don't know when she first saw this commercial, but she was pretty young at the time (and she's older than me!) I don't think I ever saw this one on TV, but I can understand why it scared the bejeebies out of my sister.

  • In my opinion they need more scary PSAs and commercials. Our generation and the following ones are thickheaded while the country is too worried about scaring the piss out of the youth. They NEED to be scared because these new watered down PSAs aren't doing anything but wasting money. Commercials bring the point across.

  • i hear ya

  • Ya, if they cared about not scaring the youth they'd cut down on the R rated previews in pg-13 movies.

  • check out Ireland's commercials for drinking and driving, they'll scare you because they are extremely graphic.

  • You drink, you drive, you lose. And that's the truth.

  • omg that used to scare the crap out of me

  • the significance of this commercial was when the girl said "we are going to a new place" a casket....

  • Ad council commercials always creeped the shit out of me

  • these kind of advertisements creep me up

  • Aw snap...I hadn't seen this one since 1985. And I only ever saw it once.

  • What a fantastic commercial! It totally worked at turning me off of Michael Jackson's music!

  • I remember watching a hockey game with my grandparents one weekend, think I was 4 or 5 years old. When this commercial came on it scared the shit out of me! My grandparents weren't even paying attention to the TV and didn't understand why I was shaking... I can't believe it's finally out on YouTUbe! Good memories!

  • I'm beginning to feel old, cause I do remember this commercial quite well. I think they were effective in scaring lil kids.

  • I think people like Hilton and Lohan should have to go along with me on an a shift as a EMS tech. Once they see the kinds of things that stupid behavior results in, they'll quit being such morons (not likely, though).

  • Now Lindsay Lohan; Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie should understand this ad because they should know better not to do this stupid incident. If this ever happened to me, I'd be dead.

  • And so should Samantha Brown understand that ad too. She should know better not to do that dumb incident. Since I saw Samantha dining on her shows on The Travel Channel. She drank wine and/or beer. She should remember that drinking and driving don't mix. Like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Mel Gibson had similar incidents.

  • That ad scared the crap out of me as a kid, and I loved it.
