i saw this when i was like 4 or 5...scared the bejeezus outta me! and i know i was young, but i'm still fairly certain i saw it during saturday morning cartoons, or at least during kids' programming, hahaha. gotta love the 80s.
Im laughing my ass off ! not to offend folks but the skeleton thing at the end always made me laugh since i was a kid in the early 8o's. I love it thanks for posting this !
I remeber this ad from the 1980s and it used to scare THE LIVING %$#@ out of me!!! After seeing this ad, and others like it, I have to say, the ad did its job!! I never have driven drunk and I never will. The ad still does kinda give me the willies.....
Drinking and driving has become a prerequisite, to become an a life of a tennage to young adults with driving drunk in a hangout could get us into a car crash with Hades!
Hate to say it but these messages do some good but not much. Drinking and driving has become a prerequisite to become President in this country. It is a right of passage parents brag about to their kids how drunk they used to get. And the ones that don't brag come home with a snoot full and swoon around the house showing the kids just what a good old sport they are. And this is a fact Jack as American as Apple Pie.
wow. i was a little girl when this came out and it scared the crap out of me! i remember whenever this was on the television, i would hide my face and peak out just a little bit until it was over.
mattlogan2009 i have this download on july 6th 2009. this was like the world was over i think i was to afraid to see this one from the 80's i was not around yet when it was released. at the end of it were they alive why did they had hair on them when they were turn to skeletons?
I was born in 1979, so I was about 4 when I first saw this. We had this 19" Black/white TV and it was right before the show Cheers came on one evening. When I first saw it, I was traumatized. Not as bad as some kids might have been. I didn't loose any sleep from it. But I remember being scared to drink anything in the car. Mom laughed and said that it only meant if you are drinking the 'bad-drinks' your Dad drinks. It nevered bothered me afterwards. This commercial should've been Rated R. LOL!!
The actor with dark hair and glasses is Donde Bastone. His father, Ron Bastone, was a screenwriter, actor, and director in LA. I worked with him in a few plays in the late 1970's at the Hollywood Actor's Theatre.
Ever since I saw this video I started to listen to Michael Jackson "Beat it." my friend and I were driving in his car and when he turned on his car we were turned into skeletons.
Cool PSA. I remember this one on late-night TV when stations had more local programming - movies, etc. - instead of moronic infomercials. We definitely need more of these. The 'crashing glasses' spot was also great.
For the longest time, my sister used to be afraid of listening to "Beat It" in the car. She thought this would happen. I don't know when she first saw this commercial, but she was pretty young at the time (and she's older than me!) I don't think I ever saw this one on TV, but I can understand why it scared the bejeebies out of my sister.
In my opinion they need more scary PSAs and commercials. Our generation and the following ones are thickheaded while the country is too worried about scaring the piss out of the youth. They NEED to be scared because these new watered down PSAs aren't doing anything but wasting money. Commercials bring the point across.
I remember watching a hockey game with my grandparents one weekend, think I was 4 or 5 years old. When this commercial came on it scared the shit out of me! My grandparents weren't even paying attention to the TV and didn't understand why I was shaking... I can't believe it's finally out on YouTUbe! Good memories!
I think people like Hilton and Lohan should have to go along with me on an a shift as a EMS tech. Once they see the kinds of things that stupid behavior results in, they'll quit being such morons (not likely, though).
Now Lindsay Lohan; Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie should understand this ad because they should know better not to do this stupid incident. If this ever happened to me, I'd be dead.
And so should Samantha Brown understand that ad too. She should know better not to do that dumb incident. Since I saw Samantha dining on her shows on The Travel Channel. She drank wine and/or beer. She should remember that drinking and driving don't mix. Like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Mel Gibson had similar incidents.
Drinking and driving: it evidently turns your car into that bomb the Green Goblin threw at his board of directors in the Spider-man movie.

Redo this in a more modern format - and upgrade the effects so they do not scream "1980s", and this could well stand next to "Same Day".

Me: Hey, are you good to drive?
Drunk friend: Yeah. See ya later! *drives off*
Me: Be careful!
Narrator: "If you don't stop your friend from drinking and driving..."
Me: *has violent heart attack and collapses*
Narrator: "...you're as good as dead."
Wh3nYour3Strang3 1 year ago 5
It didn't specify if you'd be "dead dead" or "livng dead" so in acctuallity they could be ok.
