hey Jimi did you know this BLACK band? "Ya man I knew them in the sixties"

    O.O

  • what about a dedication to Hendrix?????

  • This is wicked! Dig it.

  • kashmir?

  • pas mal......j adore la reprise...

  • 11 people didn't like that he took up their sweet time. don't worry he'll give it right back, one of these days.

  • Every band should have a fat bass player !

  • When is the next UK tour?..... Ben, you are the shit!

  • The part from 3:50 to 4:10 is sick shit!

  • Comment removed

  • Nostalgic!

  • Wow Awsome jimi would be proud

  • I totally agree. This guy rocks!

  • How proud would Jimi be if he could see this?

  • absolute brill

  • GOD-DAMN !!!! Get it Boy !!!

  • 4:17 anyone else hear the bassline to Kashmir?? haha epic

  • @wwwyyzzerddd Hear the base line the rest of the song?

  • 3:06..... How is that even possible on a Lap Steel!!!!

  • 11 voodoo fathers??

  • Waw, le passage où ils rajoutent le riff de Kashmir, ça arrache tellement.... Kazoooom!

  • For Christs Saaaaaake!

  • AWESOME COVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As if his fabulous voice isn't enough! Thank you!

  • yes this song was written by Hendrix and covered by srv. to all you idiots that can't believe Ben Harper dedicated this song to srv and not Hendrix, did it ever occur to you that this show was from Texas, which is where srv is from.

  • Smack them cowbells dude !!

  • kashmir!

  • man can this guy play ,,wow

  • Tone sounds like Derick Trucks a little.

  • so viel geil

  • geil

  • Great Job, great Version and the best Jimi Cover

  • How could there be 9 dislikes?

  • SRV's versions of jimi's songs are only inferior because he didn't write them. But the bloke's covers trail not far behind. Farrken magic.

  • @GetUpFalcon

SRV's there are versions two. Once the Slight Return and the 11-minute Longversion

  • Isn't it, around minute 4:50 kashimir sounds? (Led Zeppelin)

  • @REDSOXNYG stevie ray vaughn did right this. hendrix just covered it

  • @janiee32 Bullshit. Hendrix wrote it look it up. SRV even says he played it as a tribute to Hendrix. SRV was only 13 when Jimi recorded it so highly doubtful a 13 year old wrote something for Hendrix even if it was SRV.

  • @janiee32 Jimi wrote this song. Though it has evolved from previous blues son "Catfish Blues", it's jimi's.

    RIP Jimi, RIP SRV!

  • @janiee32 Wrong. Jimi Hendrix wrote this in 1968. It was first recorded on Electric Ladyland. Stevie covered it.

  • jeg siger: - 'Han synger for godt".

  • I think it's really interesting that he dedicated it to Stevie Ray and not Hendrix.

  • lol. 9 dislikes

  • I could def. jam out to this....

  • amazing Ben!

  • He has no pick. he play with just the fingers. amazing

  • how could you not dedicate this song to the actual song writer

  • Ben is da Man!

  • 9 person was being voodooed to dislike this.

  • SHAKE THEM MARAKAS MY DUDE !!!

  • I was at this show!!!!

  • does any 1 no what tuneing bens slide is in

  • @whitedynomite1 Open E I think.

  • Ben Harper is doing this complete justice. Of course he knows Jimi wrote it. 12 year olds in China know that. I dig the fact that he got the vibe right. Thanks Ben. Jimi is diggin it.

  • This is one of the few tracks I'd call a proper cover. His playing is amazing, even more so that he does it on a lap steel. Nails the original vibe and takes it further.

  • Ben knows who wrote this song! SRV was the only one who could hold a candle to Jimi's version...why do you think theres so few covers of it? You got to have skills to do this tune justice! and Bens wearing it out on Lap Steel!!! 'Nuff Said!

  • You just have to love min 1:08 , look behind ben!

  • @Joaomota87

    ahahaha!!!! FLYING LEON MOBLEY!!!

  • @Joaomota87 That moment makes me die laughing.

    THE jumpin' percutionist

    ;-)

  • @Joaomota87 I LOVE HIS ENERGY! haha

  • Meadowlark Lemon from the Globetrotters has been lookin for his headband since the 70's...turns out Ben Harper had it the whole time

  • @MrRsan1010 Wow man is this all you have to say after watching such a great talent?

  • ben doin the voodoo chile?...

    what next!

  • Comment removed

  • WOW i dint know he had it in him to be so creative.

  • man I loved the way they merged voodoo child with kashmir!

  • Interesting take on a classic . Maybe he shouted out to Double Trouble(which I didn't even notice) because they were on the bill at Bonneroo. They do still tour once in a while. And this was Slight Return , the version they did with SRV , rather than the original Voodoo Chile , which I like better. But , anyway , EVERYBODY knows it's a Hendrix tune.

  • Living legend thanks for posting adding this to favourites

  • 9 def & blind people do not like this video...

  • @hn2k8 ben harper and the blind boys if alabama? :p

    i keed i keed

  • fuCKING sick kASHMIRE and OUTRO X-D

  • Nice!

  • Excellent video. Thanks for posting this.

  • Gotta love the percussion guy.

  • any 1 got tabs 4 the slide

  • The pure awesomness is the one who created the song ! shame on you to compare him with any other musicien, he was from an other planet. RIP JIMI.

  • ti voglio bene ben

    ma su voodoo

chile si alza il culo x "suonarla"la chitarra

  • if Jimi sees this , I think , is really really happy.

  • This is an awesome video, too bad the hi-hat is soooo dominant in the mix or it would be almost perfect...as for people NOT familiar with Jimi's original VINYL cuts...there ARE two songs...Voodoo Chile, and Voodoo chile slight return... Stevie Ray covered the "slight return"

  • This is an awesome video, too bad the hi-hat is soooo dominant in the mix or it would be almost perfect

  • Why sounds 4.30 like ratm! Yea!!!

  • @soundbitemusic Actually it sounds like Led Zeppelin - Kashmir

  • @savagesit Hmm guess your right zeppelin was there before ratm still a cool song!

  • The Led Zeppelin part owned!

  • génial!!!!!

    j'adore ben harper

  • who is drumming?

  • @bolivianinjaindio1 Olivier Charles

  • @ notjustmusic...thanks for sharing that, was wondering myself...gracias chango!

  • his a fucking weissenborn genius !

  • Wow, I didn't know all that I thought I knew about Ben Harper. I thought he just strummed guitars. I didn't know he could improvise solos and play blues riffs like that. Wow. I respected him as an artist before, but now I see him in a new light for his riffs and improvisational talents.

  • Is this guy blind? He plays awesome

  • If all Music of dead Composers and Musicians wasn't get played again life, we just could listen to Compact Disc or Vinyl of what had happened before.

    To me this sounds good.

  • During the solo the man on the bass is playing Led Zeppelin's Kashmir

  • @iol8 or RATM's "wake up" the soundtrack from the matrix wich is very similar.

  • can't fucking stand people at a concert and their goddamn beach balls....got hit in the head with one once....took my knife out, looked the guy that owned it right in the eye...mouthed the words FUCK YOU....and deflated that fucker....

  • @bonscott01 Wow, Bon, you're one bad mofo!!!

  • @bonscott01 hahahaha thats hillarious, no more beach ball, that why i rather be on the other side, the stage!

  • @bonscott01 wow your a real badass man, its just a fucking beach ball ya faggot. Id grab that knife and slide in your the juggular

  • any idea what tuning he's in?

  • any idea what tuning he's in?

  • I can dig it!

  • Hopefully Ben gets back with the Innocent Criminals one day.

Together they are just the coolest band..

  • i like how they incorporate Kashmir in there...SUPER AWESOME!!!

  • ... brilliant! :-)

  • Look at all those white people

  • did ben get rid of jaun nelson??

  • Best Redition I have ever heard. I saw Ben Harper at Jazz Fest in NO. Wish I could have seen this live. I had tickets to see Stevie in MD for my first time, and my boss needed me to say all night to complete a report for the big wigs. He died the next day. Someday, I will get my priorities in order.......

  • First saw Ben at Horde about 1995 or so. He's an absolute fav of mine since that day. He like to just jam out on stage and it's great to listen to.

  • I think he ought to play more Hendrix. I don't care for the mix itself but he did a great job. You have to respect his artistic ability.

  • Is that Abe Laboriel playin the bass?

  • No it's Juan Nelson

  • imagine jimi walking out then srv 2 minutes later.......'were not dead!'

  • by christ this is good :)

  • hes a sick lapsteel guitar player with alot of feeling, this is the real deal!

  • i just got drunk less than hour before, and vomit and all that,... i cant tell how much im delighting my flesh and soul listning to this gods gifted breath....

    i feel so small.....

  • Man, I bet Jimm Hendrix qould've loved being backstage listening to this and asking Ben Harper for the same guitar

  • uhmmm, the best description t o give this is a definite Ode to guitar legends..... Led Zep and Hendrix......

  • This was recored in portland oregon when they were with the blues travelers during hord fest I can see myself in this video.. kinda cool..

  • Comment removed

  • Best of the best

  • played this in '09 more than a dozen times. love it going in to '10

  • Yep. Me too.

  • hendrix is the main influence of the chilli peppers!!

  • No, no... I think the main influence is Faith no More. But of course, Hendrix is way better..

  • every guitar player of chilies was a hendrix huge fan, and flea too loves the guitar god :)

  • dude if you listen to how this is arranged its like vodoo child meets give it away by the chili peppers

  • WOW!!!!

  • The Best "Voodoo Chile"Coverversion!!! Top Cover ist the SRV- Version from Montreaux- Festival 83'

  • Well, I'm standing next to a mountain,i chop it down with the edge of my hand yeahhhhhhh !

  • that was out of this world...

  • When Ben cover the classics is bigger than the biggest!!!!!!

  • thats the coolest thing iv seen in ages!!!!!

  • Voodoo Chile and Kashmir.....Pure Goodness!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up for funky black dude jammin' on bass.

  • Far Out!

  • The crew that think Ben was being dis respectful to Jimmi are very silly indeed. Do you really think a musician of this calibre doesn't know that Jimi wrote the song.......did you thimk he might have been playing at Stevie's home town!! Silly buggers!!

  • stevie wrote the original,

note jimi hendrix's version is called Voodoo Child (slight return)

where as stevie ray's is called Voodoo Chile, also dated earlier than jimi's recording

  • @nvsd270 Dude...dude. Jimi wrote recorded this song in 68, Stevie was born in 54......are you telling me he wrote this when he was 14 or younger?Jimi wrote it. Or are you just being funny. You better not say that in public.....that is embarrasing really.

  • @nvsd270 No Jimi recorded the original in 1968 and SRV covered it in 1984 wherever you got the idea that SRV recorded the original before Jimi I have not a fucking clue

And just because SRV took out the (slight return) part in his cover's title doesn't mean they are two completely different songs!

  • @nvsd270 Voodoo Chile and Voodoo Child are two complety different songs. Voodoo Chile is a 15min during blues song, where as Voodoo Child(using the wah wah) is the song that Ben Harper and SRV covered. They both appeared on Electric Ladyland in 1968

  • @nvsd270 haha shame on u, get your facts right before u go bullshitting

  • @potunkin I totally agree with you. It was a comment, unhappy.

  • @potunkin HAHA SRV is as Texan as they come! Bonooroo is in MAnchester, Tn my man. I'm pretty sure he shouted out to Double Trouble and not Jimi because he is covering it like they did with Stevie Ray

  • @potunkin Not only that. If you all have ever heard of Randy Hansen. A Jimi Hendrix tribute artist often dedicated voodoo child to srv as well.

  • Quite possibly the best cover ever! If Jimi was alive today, I'm sure he would shake Ben's hand

  • Vodoo Child with a little Kashmir mixed in...great song...pure music man

  • Einfach Genial !!!

  • still a great version of the song .....

  • not even. hendrix did it way better i think. and its bullshit he didnt mention him

  • every knows that hendrix wrote the song. its impossible to show up hendrix but considering he played it on lap steel and manged to merg it with kashmir, as smooth as eggs i think he did a dam good job

  • Christ I hate purists. They stump creativity so much.

  • Dedicate the song to the guy who wrote it.

  • I mean he's even got the Hendrix Head band thing goin' on

  • lulz

They play kashmir right before "hate to take up all your sweet time"

  • C'MON BEN, HENDRIX WROTE IT

  • Comment removed

  • @restinpeacejimi yeah but stevie ray played the shit out of it too. i dont think scuttlebuttin or texas flood would suit bens playing style

  • How have I missed this video before HOLY SHIT!!!

  • Fucking recognize Hendrix

  • slide is killer!

  • this is so good..

  • lol how do you not notice kashmir!?, they play it for a while....

  • Yah I agree, kinda weak of him to dedicate it to SRV when he only covered it and Jimi wrote it...

  • in my opinion SRV did the song a lot better and he might think so too

  • I think the fact that Ben is covering Jimi's song is going without saying how much he respects him, and maybe thats more than a few words can express.

    Amazing job covering it though.

  • i noticed kashmir^^ zeppelin dude
