I love your idiot comments..how many albums you sold ropeadope66 and dumbstuction 143..ohh that's right ..none...labrie had his vocal cords operated on..still sounds good and the band stuck it out..sounds bad live..? this is live dip shit..
hindu shit piano? wow kinda ignorant lol. But I do agree that the syth is a bit overpowering at times. I guess cos on the albums Petrucci can double up on guitar tracks. Sounds pretty epic though.
Its easy for me to sit and laugh because Labrie sounds like a cow thats getting raped and looks like some gaylord who should be starring in a soap opera. Replying to my comment was the highlight of your entire fucking existence you slimy cunt.
I'm sorry... all I could read was "I'm insanely jealous of anyone with an ounce of talent because the only ounce of it I have is reserved for making men giggle." Huh, better get my eyes checked...
yeah, I think that they are trying to make this their now closer song. Metropolis is still a better pick because it's less guitar heavy, and Jordan can balance it out.
Images and Words- It was the album that got Dream Theater rolling. Heck, all of the albums are good, but if you like DT's new stuff, Octavarium and Train of Thought are solid. If you are a big DT fan like I am, then go ahead and get Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. That album is sickly awesome.
petrucci is singing the upper harmony in falsetto, that's why it sounds a little strange against labrie and portnoy. labrie is singing melody and portnoy i think is singing a mid range harmony under him. but they're both singing with normal voices while petrucci is falsetto
I think DoucheDog09 is right. At about 5 mins there is someone singing in falsetto and Petrucci is the only one at his mic. It is usually portnoy in falsetto but i suspect they might have swapped for this song..
Are you actually philososphising about Dream Theater lyrics? What has the world come to? Who gives a fuck what these assholes think or write about? IN THE NAME OF GOD PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP DREAM THEATER!
God Labrie's live voice pisses me off. He completely and utterly nailed it on the recording of this song but never matches it live... and it kills the whole performance.
dream theater criticises facism and fanatic religious leaders and i think thats cool.
so as long as your not a facist you should not be dissapointed or somewhat xD if you just think clearly you should see that fanatic religion and facism is almost the same
( this goes to all those "omg james is a racist :-O " guys )
I've never liked DT but the someone told me to listen to this song and i cant stop listening to it, so you DT fans suggest me any songs you think are the best to introduce someone to DT world? :) if they're alike this better, oh and also less vocals more instruments :)

change of seasons, honor thy father, space dye vest, the mirror, dark eternal night, take the time, pull me under, stream of concioussness, hollow years, lie, octavarium, metropolis.
I love this song! It might well be my favourite Dream Theater song(Though I only have Train of Thought, Octavarium, Systematic Chaos and this Live at Budokan CD so far). Also, 3:30ish, inspiration for the Knights of Cydonia ending riff?
Oh man, you are missing their best albums. Scenes from a Memory is, hands down, their best post-Moore/Sherinian work! Of course, you're missing out on Awake, and Falling into Infinity (A lot of DT fans don't like FII, but I love New Millenium, Caught in a Web, and Lines in the Sand!) and no DT collection is complete without Awake.
That may well be so (though the amount I love Octavarium scares me so I don't know if I WANT to get better albums :P) but unfortunately those four are all the library have and I don't have the cash to shell out £10-17 for each of the rest of their albums at HMV...
I see what he is doing, it just scared me when i saw it, i was thinking "oh no, my favourite band's singer is a racist?" (but now i realize that is obviously related to the subject of this song).
that in many places in the world and in the past, facists were leading wars and said "Im doing this in the name of god"...they simply say "fuck you" to all those fanatic religious murders. This Song is not about his faith to a god, this song criticises fanatic faith. Just Look at the Lyrics.
I finally got the actually DVD, and Mikes vocals are thankfully nearly inaudible during the chorus. The sound is 15 times better; I recommend people get the DVD.
the point is that u can`t hear the bass is because of youtube! the sound are realy bad...
and as Sonarion says.. (This was a Train of Thought tour, and the album is mostly bass riffs. So bass is loud and guitar is low, maybe to low.) is true... and i have the dvd and THE SOUND IS AWSOME!!!... so stop saying the synth sucks... because u guys suck and not the synth
I have this DVD and i really feel bad for Mr LaBrie, this is the last song in the set and the man is exhausted but keeps on going, alot of respect for him when he was recovering from the food poisoning.
Dude I saw this guys Monday and they played this along with a bunch of other songs during the encore it was so fucking sick, these guys are fucking gods

Damn Labrie actually sang really well relative to some of his other live performances I've seen...and it's not Petrucci doing the high notes that's Portnoy, and he sounds just as he intended. Petrucci's doing the lower end harmonization. *goes to watch part 2*
He's actually doing I think what he intended, I think they had his mike a bit loud which emphasized it and made it equally loud as LaBrie's. I think he was looking to just add a bit of higher end (which is why he's way up in range). Not saying he CAN sing well (never heard him sing lead before) but that was the impression I got.
actaully he does sing well but i think that the voice that's up an octave is portnoy. i've heard portnoy go pretty high on some stuff. but surprisingly both petrucci and portnoy are kick ass lead singers.
no it's not. i mean i can definitely see where you get that idea but the band wrote the song about something else. look down at my previous comment. explained pretty well.
do me a favor... ok, it's not about all arabs, but it's about all those cults and groups among the arabs that doing all those stuff that they talking about in the song.
if you don't say so, you all just blind and not wanting to know the truth
i know what you mean with the arabic comment, it doesn't offend me but the nature of the song is not in reference specifically to islamic extremists and or terrorists. it's more about the psychological appeal of manipulation and taking advantage of somebody with the use of a higher position in a cult.
Arabs are a nationality anyway not a religion...there's a couple groups that are both, Jews for example are of the Jewish religion and come from Jerusalem (so I guess they'd be Jewish Jews?) but largely they're different. The video's in the back here of Koresh and those Western cults based (loosely) on perverted Christian doctrine imply this is more about Western religious cults than Eastern groups...but I'm guessing it's meant for ANY "cult" we're just more familiar with Koresh et al...
Yeah, but we have to vary that if we're referring to the people. Think of it this way, the religion of Christianity is called just that, Christianity, but a person who follows that religion is referred to as "A Christian"...it would be an error to go up to someone and as "Are you a Judaism?" so when referring to people who follow the religion of Judaism we use the term Jew, Hebrew is similar but people do sometimes use it to refer to people "I'm Hebrew", though "I'm Jewish" fits just as well.
oh yeah I know that...I forgot to include that. Yeah "Jewish" is a legitimate adjective/term for someone who is a Hebrew (Hebrew is really a noun not an adjective, I realize...) or someone who practices Judaism. Yep.
not really sure... song's not really about their beliefs though, it's about the effects of dangerous cults and their leaders who get what they want by making their demands "in the name of god."
i luv this song once again dream theater has prvn wrthy of me listnin 2! ha ha i have this video on my new ipod =P as much as i love dream theater... i just gotta no... HOW OLD R THESE GUYS!!!! lol xoxo jess
C Standard (as in, all strings tuned down relatively, as opposed to the standard drop C, which is the same as dropped-D but with the 6th string tuned to C and strings 1-5 tuned a step down) From low to high: C F Bb Eb G C
It isn't an attack on Islam you fucking retards, It is about the People's Temple, founded by Jim Jones, which became synonymous with group suicide after the November 18, 1978 mass murder-suicide, all in the name of God. Did you see the back round footage? Jesus, you people look into shit too much, hell IM GOING TO MUCH INTO IT, it is a song about brainwashing people with religion, leave it at that....."doomsday cult"
no man its all about all the cults that had perverted leaders that forced women to sleep with them and said it was gods will, and the being murdered part is about how they were brainwashed into committing suicide, not about islam.
i love this song, but when it says "40 sons and daughters/ un-consenting plural wives/ perversions in the name of god" it makes me think that it's an attack on islam.
Even if it is an attack on Islam, who cares?! Isn't that what freedom is all about, not worrying about saying what's on your mind?. I doubt Islam is going to care about some band expressing distaste about what happened on 9/11. Get over it fedeman2.

Portnoy and Rudess are Jewish... that for sure...
I think it's clear what the topic of that song... it's about the arabs and their terrorism... as simple as that
elazar208 3 years ago
no it's not. i mean i can definitely see where you get that idea but the band wrote the song about something else. look down at my previous comment. explained pretty well.
edthehead83 3 years ago
do me a favor... ok, it's not about all arabs, but it's about all those cults and groups among the arabs that doing all those stuff that they talking about in the song.
if you don't say so, you all just blind and not wanting to know the truth
elazar208 3 years ago
i know what you mean with the arabic comment, it doesn't offend me but the nature of the song is not in reference specifically to islamic extremists and or terrorists. it's more about the psychological appeal of manipulation and taking advantage of somebody with the use of a higher position in a cult.
edthehead83 3 years ago
i think you just have a beef with all arabs because your from israel. don't be so hateful.
edthehead83 3 years ago
Arabs are a nationality anyway not a religion...there's a couple groups that are both, Jews for example are of the Jewish religion and come from Jerusalem (so I guess they'd be Jewish Jews?) but largely they're different. The video's in the back here of Koresh and those Western cults based (loosely) on perverted Christian doctrine imply this is more about Western religious cults than Eastern groups...but I'm guessing it's meant for ANY "cult" we're just more familiar with Koresh et al...

just fyi the Jewish religion is Judaism and their heritage/race is Hebrew
UberPluh 3 years ago
Yeah, but we have to vary that if we're referring to the people. Think of it this way, the religion of Christianity is called just that, Christianity, but a person who follows that religion is referred to as "A Christian"...it would be an error to go up to someone and as "Are you a Judaism?" so when referring to people who follow the religion of Judaism we use the term Jew, Hebrew is similar but people do sometimes use it to refer to people "I'm Hebrew", though "I'm Jewish" fits just as well.
ZarathustrasCrown 3 years ago
oh yeah I know that...I forgot to include that. Yeah "Jewish" is a legitimate adjective/term for someone who is a Hebrew (Hebrew is really a noun not an adjective, I realize...) or someone who practices Judaism. Yep.
UberPluh 3 years ago
Yeah...that's better than my description :P I couldn't remember off the top of my head if it was an Adjective or an adverb...lol

Its about crazy religous cults
DreamTheaterFan1128 3 years ago
Are they christians?
ChainsawMutilation 3 years ago
not really sure... song's not really about their beliefs though, it's about the effects of dangerous cults and their leaders who get what they want by making their demands "in the name of god."

KarateMastR57 4 years ago 3
ok, thx, thumb up
dasenden 4 years ago
actually this song is in c standard tuning on a 6 string guitar
mrbungle50221 4 years ago 6
For 7-String songs, yes. I'm not aware that he has ever used a 7 for this song.
JRBain7 3 years ago
Not for this song but he does for others. A large amount of this entire album is tuned to C.
ExSaint1379 3 years ago
As I Am, Honor Thy Father and ITNOG are all C. Endless Sacrifice is D, SoC is Eb, and This Dying Soul is 7, so it's a bit of a mix.
JRBain7 3 years ago

KarateMastR57 4 years ago 7
no man its all about all the cults that had perverted leaders that forced women to sleep with them and said it was gods will, and the being murdered part is about how they were brainwashed into committing suicide, not about islam.
Lopgtop 4 years ago
i love this song, but when it says "40 sons and daughters/ un-consenting plural wives/ perversions in the name of god" it makes me think that it's an attack on islam.
fedeman2 4 years ago
Even if it is an attack on Islam, who cares?! Isn't that what freedom is all about, not worrying about saying what's on your mind?. I doubt Islam is going to care about some band expressing distaste about what happened on 9/11. Get over it fedeman2.
