I loved this movie. Alice Faye and Jack Haley are two favorites, so having them with Shirley is such a treat. I love all her movies. When I was little they were on Saturday afternoon TV. "Little MIss Broadway" with George Murphy is wonderful. She saved a movie studio, and made the country smile during the Depression. She was great!!!
@TroyOi A lot of it is a play on Bing Crosby - I believe the end of the song Dinah was "The name of this song is Dinah". Shirley's "When you are crooning the blue of the day" is a play on Crosby's "The Blue of the Night". She imitates his "tho tho tho" etc. Shirley even uses his name "Bing BIng". :)
@friendsfamilyaccount Ahh, thanks! I had a feeling I'd heard something like that lyric in some other song. Sounds just like something you'd expect to hear from a crooning Crosby, maybe with the Andrews Sisters in accompaniment.
its poor little rich girl.Shirley runs away and meets a couple and help them get on the radio.Fox who one step away from bankruptcy turned away a Fifty thousand dollar bid for shirley's contract with quote this kid actor is worth a lot more then 50 grand.
@lestiepops69 the tin man before the wicked witch wanted to make a garbage can out of him ... Jack was a song and dance man when that meant something in Hollywood!
alice faye was also a huge star in the 30s. so to put her in a movie with shirley had to be a smash! shirley was sooooo awfully cute in this movie, like no other child
Could somebody please put this song on LimeWire? I did have it on my iPod, but I accidentally deleted it, and I've been kicking myself ever since. Shirley is brilliant here! She's amazing, she's my idol.
The finest thing that the great depression ever brought forward. The world needed she Shirley and she appeared as if by magic. I'm not one to pine for the "good ol days" but this was a special time.
I have this movie, but I do have that song from the LP "Little Miss Shirley Temple". I got this LP at a thrift store and it's in excellent condition. It was from probably around the early 70's and it was on the Pickwick label (Pickwick/33). I guess Pickwick was a label for releasing a series of low priced LP's.
One of the best routines of Shirley's many greats. Too bad this is colorized and also not very clear. She & Alice are dynamite! thanks for posting this...
Not up there with world problems, but give me my 30s flicks as they were intended, right? Either way, it's wonderful to be reminded of the joy of their talent. How lucky we are to have these films!
title* definitely, not definately.

@jazzdancerx008 She is the great Alice Faye, one of the best singers America ever produced. She was a good actress, too.

OK, let's get serious for a moment: Can anyone tell me the reason for the lyric "The name of this song ain't Dinah"? I'm dying to know.
