Ive lived in York all my life and like the place and wouldnt want to live anywhere else but it was such a shame when Scotts butchers closed in Low petergate in 2008, it has been there 130 years and was especially busy at Christmas, when they even had an imitation snow machine on on of the above floors. A bit of York died when it closed.
I'm from Scotland and my girlfriend and I are going to stay in York this weekend for the third time. Why? Because its a wonderful city with so much atmosphere and beautiful things to see. It has a unique character which makes it a special place. I love everything about this amazing city and few places anywhere in the UK can match it. So looking forward to the simple pleasure of walking those famous walls again. York does it for me. Its simply a magical place.
save the countryside....conservative eat your natural hearts plans...if you have a car.....talk to locals....65% is unprotected across u.k.....place art ,sculpture on sites..we saved forests, now countryside..ribbons tied to tree's to show locals own area,,not government..........
I'm from Texas and I visit York about twice a year. I MUST go into the city centre each time I visit. I have been there every night of the week by now and I have never felt any kind of danger. Not once. Forget "I <3 NY", I want a T-shirt that says " I <3 Old York".
York's a pussycat compared to other cities. The city centre is certainly NOT a no-go area on a Saturday night as a previous poster suggested, it's full of happening bars and fancy restaurants and clubs. Also I very much doubt that we have the highest number of pre-18 yr old prisoners, don't make me laugh!! It's a great city, full of life and interest and excitement. I lived away in Leeds & London for over 10 years and now I'm so glad I moved back home to my civilized city!
I'm from the US, just visited York for the first time last Fall. What an absolutely fantastic place :). The Fiancé and I are actually talking about having our wedding there! (She's from Darlington). Can't wait to go back!
i live/lived not an hour away from york (barnsley) and as a yorkshireman its easily one of the best/cleanest/safest places in urban yorkshire...possibly even england ! i was gunna go to the uni there but only down side was ... didnt really seem too student freindly in the end (not enough night clubs) haha typical student i no :D good vid nyways
Haha now come on is it really worth dissing york? It isnt bad in york at all, nobody gets stabbed or murdered yeah theres a few not so great areas and some chavs which ruin york but apart from that its perfect =) compare london to york the amount of guns.. we have none of that.
@BL18x Actually people get stabbed there and murdered on a regular basis.Like many places the city centre is virtually a no-go area on Saturday night, especially when the races are on.
Live here i do =] lived here all my life makes me realise ive been taken it for granted all this time, it is MILES cheaper than london. And it's such a nice place =)
Is Yorkshire cheaper to visit than London, I've been there twice and it is insanely expensive. The low price hotels there are a disgrace, small, filthy, and unsafe. Next time I would like to try Yorkshire.
I love the north of England - the derelict, the lovely (like York), the daft (everywhere), the accents, the humor, Peter Roinson, the working class attitude. The racism I could do without. I'm USA and I have close relatives in the south of England and Ireland, some rather posh but I grew up in the South Bronx. Posh it was not but I did for a while have likable rich friends. Thanks!
haha typical teenagers, when your older you'll be grateful you grew up there. im 18 been around the world and UK and York is easily one of the best small citites ive ever been to.
When you live in York as I do you don't tend to notice the lovely places and views as you take them for granted. As a York resident you don't go to the museums or even notice the sights. I grew up with them so to me the town is just town. It's really good to see it from this angle. I do love the museum gardens in summer though, I have my lunch breaks there.
As someone who doesnt live in the city, let me just say that York is great! I was lucky enough to visit many times during my childhood and thouroughly enjoyed it every time. I love it as an adult too. I find the history fascinating, and the shops and eateries are very nice. Makes for a really good day out. (Havent tried a night out there yet though!)
its a great video I was there just last year. Im gona be there soon as well. if you like to night out,you have to go york revolution.. they are the the best in town.. cs I worked there

@123ldh york has like, belfarm and tang hall as its roughest areas, compared to other cities that's no big deal! there's always going to be bad parts of a city. you can't honestly say that york is rough.
Just realised I'm so lucky to live here :P
