Brilliant! I simply understand it as a metaphor for humanity: we do things in the most careless manner (cereal, spoon, milk carton with holes); then we spend the rest of our lives cleaning up after our mess with the most inefficient system (plucking cereal one by one into plate), and by the time we finish it, our time is over: and we start all over again. Maybe not necessarily humanity, it could be individual humans- I dont know.
