I worked in a place like that but it was for egg layers. We still shipped out some for slaughter though. The chickens were wheeled out in carts that hold them by the legs, upside down. They get handled by the legs, upside down and it does not hurt them because they are strong in this area of their body and they don't mind it at all. Some people just don't understand what farmers do beyond the styrofoam trays in their local stores and fast food joints.
