forgive me for not being as well versed in regards to the 10mm, but how does it compare to the 45acp? I carry a g23 for my conceal carry and I'm looking for something with a lot more punch power. How and in what ways does the 10mm surpass the 45acp in the environment of conceal carry and home defense. Thanks for your time and any info.
i got the 29 sf which is the carry version of this gun and that shit will kill your hand.... i'm sure its fine in full size but that small and that powerful is almost too much

@DragunBreath Out of my Wilson Combat Hunter, yes, but out of a G20 (especially after you up the spring weight to 20-22 lbs like you should), the recoil is not much. There's less recoil than my Glock 30 and most other .45 Autos. 230gr Double Tap hard cast rounds have about 770 ft-lbs out of a G20 with a KKM 6" barrel. It kicks a lot less than a .44 Mag but will penetrate 4 laminated landscape tinder each is 4" thick... that's insane, it out penetrates .44 Mag through steel, etc.
@NinjaMoose234 Bullet is 1mm larger caliber (make a HUGE difference). Typical 9mm (9x19 Para) has a case that is 6mm shorter and 1mm slimmer, this means that a significantly greater power load will propel the much heavier bullet much faster. This all equates to power that is >.357 Mag and can reach .44 Mag energy. The range is insane (150 yards flat shooting), I've hit at 350 yards at Oak Tree Gun Club rifle range with budget ammo. It's a 27 oz pistol that can kill Polar bear.
@NinjaMoose234 Yea, it's a lot larger cartridge. Low power 10mm is about 2x 9x19, high power 10mm is 3x the energy of 9mm Para. I have several conversion barrels which allow the gun to fire .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and 9x25mm Dillon rounds (nothing else needs to be changed, although you should run a 21lb recoil spring assembly). The spring will handle the lighter stuff, but it's really needed for hot 10mm and 9mm Dillon. 9x25 has insane accuracy and power in a 9mm bullet, (~2200 FPS)!

The Units with which I served are superior to the SEALs, in fact we train them and in annual competitions we would always win by a long shot. @2204Alpha The highest velocity .45 GAP is about equal to the lowest velocity 10mm. You obviously didn't listen to this video as most 10mm (true 10mm) is in the 1300-1600 FPS range from a stock G20.
@DragunBreath Wrong. Lowest power 10mm is around 530 ft-lbs, that's like .40 S&W +P+ and about the same a .357 Mag (it will do a lot more damage than a .357 due to the larger caliber & greater mass). Georgia Arms bulk ammo is very affordable and is powerful enough to take Black bear. MOST 10mm out there is in the >600 ft-lbs energy range. True 10mm is about 750-770 ft-lbs from a stock G20. A KKM barrel and 21lb Wolff spring kit increases power/accuracy, a 6" barrel = .44 Mag power.

Still, considering, the 10mm looks like a fantastic round from what i've seen. And I'm a small guy that doesn't worry about a little more recoil (I used to shoot an over/under 12 gauge that had no recoil pad whatsoever, coming home with speckle bruises all over my shoulder)
@edgybob1 Extremely controllable, it has less recoil than my G30 using the same ammo, less recoil than a friend's G21, and A LOT less recoil than a 1911.
It also come back on target quickly. The recoil is a strong "push" back into the palm of your hand opposed to a "snappy flip" which you'll feel in the wrist. It's noticeably less that a .357 Snub nose (despite being much more powerful) with hot loads since it has that super heavy reciprocating slide to absorb most of the energy.
Me personaly 10mm is a great hunting gun or protection from 4 legged creatures in the woods. I know in Mn you cant use 44mag for self defense. Something about overpower and you are looking to use it. I don't know about 10mm but it might fall in those guide lines . 10mm also has a bigger recoil then a .40, the follow up shots are going to be slower. So for a good self defense round there are tons to choice from but for me 10mm is to big. But that is my opinion .
I would get a 10MM Auto and shoot it absolutely to death, but the ammo is just too expensive for me.
For all those worrying about the Glock 20, it can handle the punishment. If you're shooting particularly heavy stuff, all you really have to worry about is replacing the springs more often.
The real question is, can your WRIST handle it? :)
@Excedrine Just buy bulk ammo. I'll get BVAC or Georgia Arms 500rds.$200 and it's high quality stuff... made in USA 100% and way better than Green Box UMC or WWB, I'd feel confident taking that stuff to war.
@Excedrine Yea, and as for the gun handling the recoil... there are documented cases of people having put 200K+ rounds of 10mm through a stock G20 with only the Mag springs needing replacement after about 110K rounds. If you're going to shoot hot/heavy loads like I do for all calibers, get a SS guide rod and up the spring weight. I shoot a 22lb spring which cycles low end range ammo, but is really nice for when I shoot Double Tap.
A .40 conversion barrel can keep the cost down too.
I've had extensive experience with winchester slivertip pistol ammo ( aluminum jacket over lead core) I've seen many failures, from their 380's up to the 45 acp. For serious social work stay with Hornady or Speer gold dot ammo.
The "ultimate zombie slayer" is a handgun with a caliber you can find anywhere after the sh*t hits the fan - and the 10mm ain't it. FBI quit looking at thne 10mm as it wasn't a huge improvement over the .45acp and they were concerned about the Glock frame in 10mm. You should be as well - or wear a helmet with a faceguard. Before you poo-poo my comments, I earn a living testing for a multi-state law enforce group.
@cptexas1 I'll poo poo your statement. 10mm IS a HUGE improvement over .45. Much more accurate, especially at range and roughly 2x the KE. As far as problems with the Glock 20 frame... more bullshit. I have 50K+ rounds through my 20 without a single jam or problem otherwise, and I shoot hot per load.. There are documented testers with over 200K through a stock 20 - zero problems. As far as credentials, well no offense by mine top yours by a LONG shot.

not a good survival gun. You wont find ammo for the 10 otherwise I would consider it. In a real zombie situation there will be more zombies than rounds you can shoot. A gun without rounds is less valuable than my slingshot for small game.
@jrowarrior You'll find plenty of ammo. First off, everyone will take all the 9/40/45 leaving all the less common rounds. Second, it's very plentiful and inexpensive online, stock up a few 1000 rounds. Finally, any 10 can shoot .40 S&W with only a barrel change, same with .357 SIG and 9x25 Dillon (if you happen to come across some). Now you can shoot a wide variety of ammo from a single gun.

I have had them all since Glock went into business. Look at Hickock 45's video's if you want to see an older fella "60's" shoot a a model 26 and 27, 200 yards. And hit the target. I still would take my Govt 1911, over my G30 in real life, but those guns are too big and bulky for everyday carry. I carry for 37 years in 2 states. Better to have a 26 in your pocket than a 10 at home .Not a practical gun for carry unless you live in Alaska.
I find compensated glocks to be a safety issue when shooting from retention. If you are not a pro, and will just be killing paper for the most part, I think it is fine. H4T might have more input since he carries comped block sometimes. But for me force on force/firing from retention comped is a no go.
sorry to hear about the dog man......thats a slayer of a round from what your saying....I have only fired a Glock 17 9mm in training and a Sigma .40cal ...but since the 10mm Glock has a higher recoil think a compensator might help that....Im asking cause Im in the market for buying a Pistol and just trying to get a calibur with some knock down power
@katana888 in cali 10mm is hard to find, idk bout the rest of the country. if you get one id'e recommend reloading, you should check out the glock 21 45acp. ammos expensive but i reload and ultimately pay 6 bucks for 100 rounds. it has good stopping power, also because its a 45 theres always a wide array of ammo available. dont forget about hk usp45, and 1911,s. good luck shopping

Other than that it is the best semi automatic cartridge. I don't consider a .44 magnum a semi auto cartridge even though it could be. I consider "magnums" for revolvers only.
i dont know where in the hell your getting your ballistic coefficients from but your way off and one more thing the 357 has more down range energy and velocity than the 10m .the 10 losses velocity fast because of the diameter id put my 357 up against any glock any day iron sights from 25 yards to 100 yards or more ill out shoot any glock every time any takers
I hate to Break Everyones Bubble. But this is not a Glock 10mm. It's A Glock ONE CENTIMETER. That's what I call it, the One Centimeter. Either that or 10 Milly Peter. Everyone has to own a Glock 20 Model. You haven't lived until you've shot and owned a Glock 20. Now the SF model makes it so much more confortable for millions of other shooters.
be cafeful with glocks in general, especially the 40S&W. Glock barrels have no "case head support in gen 1 and 2 barrels and are subject to case head separation (AKA BOOM) So dont be lulled into sleep with the 10MM. It can be a disaster, especially if you reload. FYI I have 5 10MMs with over 100000 rounds of experience.
For zombies you want headshots anyway, so in a zombie apocalypse situation I'd probably want a 9mm Glock with comically large magazines. Let the dead bastards get in close, and try to bottleneck them using obstacles so that even if you miss one head, the round has a chance to hit another. Of course, that's if we're talking about regular slow-moving zombies, and not fast-moving highly motivated zombies (or "infected" such as in L4D).
@vonkruel If you're going zombie hunting, don't buy a Glock, buy a Ruger Mk. II or similar .22 LR pistol. Cheaper ammo, higher accuracy, more easily suppressed (It's already a subsonic round), much more abundant, more efficient, and in certain .22 LR pistols, higher capacity. A lot of people who talk about guns for zombie killing don't understand how quickly shit would get real and how quickly you would run out of ammunition with anything that isn't .22 LR.

@seventhSabra Jamming issues have nothing to do with the caliber, it has to do with the quality of the ammunition and the quality of the gun itself, and I've seen plenty more people with 9mm pistols that have jamming issues than I've ever had with any .22lr firing pistol or rifle I've ever had. As far as accuracy goes, the only thing 9mm has over a .22lr is speed over short distances and heavier bullets. And anyways, buddy, if you're ex Israeli Special Forces, I'm an ex Navy SEAL and I'm Jesus.

@LiveFreeOrDie1985 Again you're wrong, simple physics proves you incorrect (and I'm a PhD in Quantum Physics). 10mm is extremely powerful, it causes hydrostatic shock - remote wounding/killing. The whole point of such a cartridge (.44 Mag also), is that you don't need to be pinpoint accurate, any center mass hit will cause a shock wave with enough Kinetic Energy to rupture the heart and lungs and everything else in the thoracic cavity.
It's a phenomenal EDC, if you're man enough to carry it.

@DragunBreath Out of my Wilson Combat Hunter, yes, but out of a G20 (especially after you up the spring weight to 20-22 lbs like you should), the recoil is not much. There's less recoil than my Glock 30 and most other .45 Autos. 230gr Double Tap hard cast rounds have about 770 ft-lbs out of a G20 with a KKM 6" barrel. It kicks a lot less than a .44 Mag but will penetrate 4 laminated landscape tinder each is 4" thick... that's insane, it out penetrates .44 Mag through steel, etc.

Typical 9mm (9x19 Para) has a case that is 6mm shorter and 1mm slimmer, this means that a significantly greater power load will propel the much heavier bullet much faster. This all equates to power that is >.357 Mag and can reach .44 Mag energy. The range is insane (150 yards flat shooting), I've hit at 350 yards at Oak Tree Gun Club rifle range with budget ammo. It's a 27 oz pistol that can kill Polar bear.

@NinjaMoose234 Yea, it's a lot larger cartridge. Low power 10mm is about 2x 9x19, high power 10mm is 3x the energy of 9mm Para. I have several conversion barrels which allow the gun to fire .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and 9x25mm Dillon rounds (nothing else needs to be changed, although you should run a 21lb recoil spring assembly). The spring will handle the lighter stuff, but it's really needed for hot 10mm and 9mm Dillon. 9x25 has insane accuracy and power in a 9mm bullet, (~2200 FPS)!

The Units with which I served are superior to the SEALs, in fact we train them and in annual competitions we would always win by a long shot. @DragunBreath Wrong. Lowest power 10mm is around 530 ft-lbs, that's like .40 S&W +P+ and about the same a .357 Mag (it will do a lot more damage than a .357 due to the larger caliber & greater mass). Georgia Arms bulk ammo is very affordable and is powerful enough to take Black bear. MOST 10mm out there is in the >600 ft-lbs energy range. True 10mm is about 750-770 ft-lbs from a stock G20. A KKM barrel and 21lb Wolff spring kit increases power/accuracy, a 6" barrel = .44 Mag power.

@edgybob1 Extremely controllable, it has less recoil than my G30 using the same ammo, less recoil than a friend's G21, and A LOT less recoil than a 1911.
It also come back on target quickly. The recoil is a strong "push" back into the palm of your hand opposed to a "snappy flip" which you'll feel in the wrist. It's noticeably less that a .357 Snub nose (despite being much more powerful) with hot loads since it has that super heavy reciprocating slide to absorb most of the energy.

Me personaly 10mm is a great hunting gun or protection from 4 legged creatures in the woods. I know in Mn you cant use 44mag for self defense. Something about overpower and you are looking to use it. I don't know about 10mm but it might fall in those guide lines . 10mm also has a bigger recoil then a .40, the follow up shots are going to be slower. So for a good self defense round there are tons to choice from but for me 10mm is to big. But that is my opinion .

I would get a 10MM Auto and shoot it absolutely to death, but the ammo is just too expensive for me.
For all those worrying about the Glock 20, it can handle the punishment. If you're shooting particularly heavy stuff, all you really have to worry about is replacing the springs more often.
The real question is, can your WRIST handle it? :)

@Excedrine Yea, and as for the gun handling the recoil... there are documented cases of people having put 200K+ rounds of 10mm through a stock G20 with only the Mag springs needing replacement after about 110K rounds. If you're going to shoot hot/heavy loads like I do for all calibers, get a SS guide rod and up the spring weight. I shoot a 22lb spring which cycles low end range ammo, but is really nice for when I shoot Double Tap.
A .40 conversion barrel can keep the cost down too.

I've had extensive experience with winchester slivertip pistol ammo ( aluminum jacket over lead core) I've seen many failures, from their 380's up to the 45 acp. For serious social work stay with Hornady or Speer gold dot ammo.

The "ultimate zombie slayer" is a handgun with a caliber you can find anywhere after the sh*t hits the fan - and the 10mm ain't it. FBI quit looking at thne 10mm as it wasn't a huge improvement over the .45acp and they were concerned about the Glock frame in 10mm. You should be as well - or wear a helmet with a faceguard. i didnt even know that 10mm existed lol. ive used the glock 19 on an awesome adventure tour i took in israel with this company called LionOps. that was amazing, and ive heard a lot of people who really love glocks, so i imagine that the 10mm glock is just as good

not a good survival gun. You wont find ammo for the 10 otherwise I would consider it. In a real zombie situation there will be more zombies than rounds you can shoot. A gun without rounds is less valuable than my slingshot for small game.

@jrowarrior You'll find plenty of ammo. First off, everyone will take all the 9/40/45 leaving all the less common rounds. Second, it's very plentiful and inexpensive online, stock up a few 1000 rounds. Finally, any 10 can shoot .40 S&W with only a barrel change, same with .357 SIG and 9x25 Dillon (if you happen to come across some). Now you can shoot a wide variety of ammo from a single gun.

I guess if you're wise with the 10 and can carry and stash your 10 rounds somewhere safe, then you got nothing to worry about. I'm just referring to an "oh shit" situation where you unloaded on a bunch of "zombies" lol and you were on the run and needed to find more ammo quick. I have had them all since Glock went into business. Look at Hickock 45's video's if you want to see an older fella "60's" shoot a a model 26 and 27, 200 yards. And hit the target. I still would take my Govt 1911, over my G30 in real life, but those guns are too big and bulky for everyday carry. I carry for 37 years in 2 states. Better to have a 26 in your pocket than a 10 at home .Not a practical gun for carry unless you live in Alaska.

I find compensated glocks to be a safety issue when shooting from retention. If you are not a pro, and will just be killing paper for the most part, I think it is fine. H4T might have more input since he carries comped block sometimes. But for me force on force/firing from retention comped is a no go.

@katana888 in cali 10mm is hard to find, idk bout the rest of the country. if you get one id'e recommend reloading, you should check out the glock 21 45acp. ammos expensive but i reload and ultimately pay 6 bucks for 100 rounds. it has good stopping power, also because its a 45 theres always a wide array of ammo available. dont forget about hk usp45, and 1911,s. good luck shopping

The only thing I hate about the 10mm is the price for ammo.
That is why I rarely take the 20 and 29 out of the vault.
Other than that it is the best semi automatic cartridge. I don't consider a .44 magnum a semi auto cartridge even though it could be. I consider "magnums" for revolvers only.

i dont know where in the hell your getting your ballistic coefficients from but your way off and one more thing the 357 has more down range energy and velocity than the 10m .the 10 losses velocity fast because of the diameter id put my 357 up against any glock any day iron sights from 25 yards to 100 yards or more ill out shoot any glock every time any takers

I hate to Break Everyones Bubble. But this is not a Glock 10mm. It's A Glock ONE CENTIMETER. That's what I call it, the One Centimeter. Either that or 10 Milly Peter. Everyone has to own a Glock 20 Model. You haven't lived until you've shot and owned a Glock 20. Now the SF model makes it so much more confortable for millions of other shooters.

be cafeful with glocks in general, especially the 40S&W. Glock barrels have no "case head support in gen 1 and 2 barrels and are subject to case head separation (AKA BOOM) So dont be lulled into sleep with the 10MM. It can be a disaster, especially if you reload. FYI I have 5 10MMs with over 100000 rounds of experience.

For zombies you want headshots anyway, so in a zombie apocalypse situation I'd probably want a 9mm Glock with comically large magazines. Let the dead bastards get in close, and try to bottleneck them using obstacles so that even if you miss one head, the round has a chance to hit another. Of course, that's if we're talking about regular slow-moving zombies, and not fast-moving highly motivated zombies (or "infected" such as in L4D).

@vonkruel If you're going zombie hunting, don't buy a Glock, buy a Ruger Mk. II or similar .22 LR pistol. Cheaper ammo, higher accuracy, more easily suppressed (It's already a subsonic round), much more abundant, more efficient, and in certain .22 LR pistols, higher capacity. A lot of people who talk about guns for zombie killing don't understand how quickly shit would get real and how quickly you would run out of ammunition with anything that isn't .22 LR.

@karinosai come to think of it, the same logic that made me prefer 9mm to 10mm in this situation, would also logically apply to .22LR vs 9mm. So I take your point, I think .22LR would be superior.
I don't think I'd be "zombie hunting" so much as just trying to not be zombie food. I also have to work on some cardio or there's no fuckin way I'll survive a zombie apocalypse. Too much computer time!!!

@karinosai You'd trust your life to that unreliable (even with the best .22 gun and ammo) caliber? .22 can bounce off or imbed just under the skin of the human scull if shot beyond 30 yards. 9mm is best due to ammo capacity per mag, but what if you have a zombie cougar or grizzly on your trail? 10mm is where it's at, you can always drop in a .40 S&W barrel (takes 20 seconds) and shoot a more common round.

And I don't know why you claim it to be soooo unreliable, I've seen more 9mm pistols jam at the range than I've seen 10/22s or Mk. IIs jam at the range combined. And yes, I'd sure as hell trust my life with something with far less recoil and equal kill ability of a 9mm considering that the .22 LR round is considerably more accurate than a 9mm round at any range past 15 yards. (Exaggeration, but you get the point)

I shoot ~1000-2000 rounds per month, shot 250 yesterday alone, and just got a G30SF for an awesome price (plus a free mag and they comped me 50 rounds to put through it.
.22 ISN'T more accurate than 9mm past 15yds, maybe for you, but then you can't shoot. Spare me the ammo lecture, I'm ex IDF SF.

@seventhSabra Jamming issues have nothing to do with the caliber, it has to do with the quality of the ammunition and the quality of the gun itself, and I've seen plenty more people with 9mm pistols that have jamming issues than I've ever had with any .22lr firing pistol or rifle I've ever had. As far as accuracy goes, the only thing 9mm has over a .22lr is speed over short distances and heavier bullets. And anyways, buddy, if you're ex Israeli Special Forces, I'm an ex Navy SEAL and I'm Jesus.

@karinosai No, for a ZOMBIE SITUATION! All it takes is a head shot, you don't need to evaporate their entire upper body with a 10mm. You also want a round that you can find anywhere in any store. The guy with a Glock 17 and 33 rd mags will live, the guy with only a 10mm and 15 round mags is at a disadvantage.

Anyways, the guy with the FN Five-seveN has a better chance of living as long as he has a good supply of ammunition, so what's your point? Also, I'm pretty sure that an extended magazine for a 10mm (probably exists somewhere) would hold 31, since the .40 S&W extended mag holds that many.

@LiveFreeOrDie1985 Again you're wrong, simple physics proves you incorrect (and I'm a PhD in Quantum Physics). 10mm is extremely powerful, it causes hydrostatic shock - remote wounding/killing. The whole point of such a cartridge (.44 Mag also), is that you don't need to be pinpoint accurate, any center mass hit will cause a shock wave with enough Kinetic Energy to rupture the heart and lungs and everything else in the thoracic cavity.
It's a phenomenal EDC, if you're man enough to carry it.

I now work as a Physicist and I develop classified next-gen propulsion systems, I'm also a ballistics expert, and I've hunted dangerous game in Alaska and Africa with 10mm. I know a hell of a lot more than you do about this subject.
True 10mm is equal to a .41-.44 Mag. 230gr hitting your body at 1300 fps WILL drop you instantly. I've dropped Bear, it will drop you.
