Call me crazy if you want, but I actually enjoyed getting them taken out. Mine were in for a week, so all I felt was a weeks worth of tension and pressure being relieved in an instant. Orgasmic.
came back from splints removal, i wrote this so it helps others. I had splints removed 3 weeks after my operation, that's a lot worse than taking them out 1 week after, because of crusts ,dry blood. amazingly they were not painful at all!! i was scared and my heart started beating alot when they called my name, i asked him if i could get my nose numbed but he said you dont need too. It's not painful at all just a little uncomfortable but hey after all, no one excepts to be something nice right?
You may have different splints to the ones I had as I was able to breathe through my nose immediately after surgery and right through until, and after having the splints removed.
I get my splints out tomorrow morning (after 10 days of mouth-breathing).. Must say, had no idea they were that big. Holy hell. I may try and record it on my iphone, just for good measure. Thanks for posting the video, I know what to expect now!
I had a septoplasty about 10+ years ago. The stents being removed was a piece of cake. Though I did have numbness to parts of my nose for nearly a year. Now I might have to have more surgery soon, but scared I am not!!!
I just had a rhinoplasty for my cleft lip and palate and nose, I get mine out in 2 days and Im so scared XD. I swear to god all the blood up my nose feels like rocks and it freaking sucks.
I just came back from getting my splints taken out 15mins ago. So I will give my report here. I had Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty. I still have the plaster of paris on my nose. The doctors said I had irregular crust up my nose, even though I have been using the sodium chloride and Otrivine nasal drops by the book. The doctor did not use a fancy tool to widen my nostrel, he used small tongs. The doctor did not use the sucking machine and I am very disappointed about that...
@cdenver ...My nose started to bleed a lot when my stints where taken out and the doctor has to get a small bottle with a long spout to apply local anesthetic. When the doctor grabbed the stint it was seriously painful, when he took it out it was not painful but relieving. I ask all ENT doctors to please PLEASE treat our patient with the sucker machine because I have to live in pain now, I still cant breathe out of my nose and I got my stints out exactly 1 week and 15mins to the time of my...
@cdenver ...surgery. So please, all ENT docs it is a must to purchase that sucking machine because I watched this video last night and thought that if I got all the snot sucked out, along with the blood and crust, that I would feel much better. I feel disappointed right now that I did not get the same treatment even though the surgeons who preformed the op where professionals and the entire procedure was professional. My top row of teeth are still numb! My plaster cast will be on for 1 more wk.
thank you for the response, right now i have some packaging and also splints in my nose lol. so i get the packaging removed tomorrow and then splints removed on wed so i just wanted to be prepared. =] thanks again everything was very helpful =D
i just wanted to ask, you had a stich in there right? at any time did it hurt when he clipped and or removed that huge!!! splint? if anyone knows please messege me =]
Each splint had a stitch holding it into my nose. I had taken some painkillers before going to this appointment, but the whole process was not painful. The splints came out easily. It's a weird sensation but not awful. I was pleasantly surprised.
@aumojo hey i just had nose surgery and i had the splints in for a week i just got them out like 12 hours ago and my one nostrell is like closed up badly like if i try to blow it very little air will come out and my ears start to pop did u get this too cuz its freakin me out please reply
people many times when people do a septoplasty the surgeon operates on the turbinates. Turbinate surgery can be very risky the butcher that operated on me never warned me of the risks made it sound like the most simple operation. Well for him it was simple for me it has change my life i had to suffer unbelievably. I found out there are a group of people with the exact symptoms look up empty nose syndrome and atrophic rhinitis. The suffering is unbelievable.
iget my splints removed on tuesday... doesn't seem like a bad ordeal .. perhaps i will go in one day early.... can't wait to get these out of my nose so that i can breathe.. but quite frankly ive had many years of being stuffy all of the time to where now these stents are better than what i had experienced before.. GOOD LUCK ALL THX FOR POSTING THIS.

@mmafanification1 i just had septoplasty and i get my stents out next week, so i can't speak from personal experience but.... i read that oftentimes after the stents are removed (depending on what you had done) that often your nose can swell again because the stents are no longer there to push the swelling back. hope that helps.. good luck!
I'd recommend asking your Dr if they use silicon splints or packing. Silicon splints are the preferred method as you can breathe while they're in. With packing you can't breathe through your nose until they're removed.
excellent, thank you for information; i presume they will use splints then, which im glad for as readin the below comments, the packing hurts and the splint removal just feels kinda weird/different lol. thanks again; oh also do you know what they will do for rhinoplasty? just like a tape covering on the bridge of the nose? if u dont know for that one thas ok, ty again.
I only know from my own experience. Each surgeon is different. But I'm happy I had the splints as I'd heard packing is awful.
As for the bridge of the nose, I was fitted with a plastic splint that was molded to the shape of my nose and left in place for several days. I would definitely recommend discussing the process with your surgeon as they're more qualified to answer your questions.
