it's kindof sad, the railroad shaped and build America, and built towns, now just memories woven in time as we look at unused railroads in this country rusting away. As a young man, I love trains, and just image what it was like when these rails interacted with people, just to hear the rumble that once was alive on these rail treasures, even before my time, the American railroad will allways be a peice in our hearts, and in this country of America.
@metrabnsf847 No I did not, this was a day I was home sick looking for something to do. I google imaged "abandoned railroads, Trains, ect" and compiled them into a movie.
@traindude80 probly the same kinda story up here JUST in central/southern ontario. I could take thousands of pictures of abandoned stuff just in my area.
@BUICK925 Theres an interesting story about that one. I think that in that area there are two coaches and a 2-6-2t tank locomotive that were intentinally wrecked off a burning bridge for the movie The Ring of Fire. I agree that it was a waste. I also think that the locomotive exploded when it fell off the bridge because it hit the cliff going down.
@southern4501isawesom I agree but at the time there was such a surplus of steam locomotives. I think it was like what they did in Unstoppable when they wrecked those two EMD locomotives. They were at the end of their lives and there was a surplus of them so why not go out with a bang.
@CSX8663 No there wasn't anyone on it they all got off. It was part of the movie The Ring of Fire, and it was all part of the movie. I think the locomotive is intact but since the boiler blew as it hit the cliff and its been underwater for 51 years so there probably not much left. Type in Ring of Fire train wreck and something should come up. There is a great website on it.
@CSX8663 From the pictures I saw, There were two coaches and the steam locomotive. They each fell at a different time and at a different place. The first thing to fall was the locomotive and it fell of the bridge, hit the cliff, and went into the river, the next were coaches that fell at different times and just happened to land at different spots above the river. Not to mention the bridge they were on collapsed at different times with the equipment so they landed on a pile of bridge timbers

If you count the mileage from only the abandoned lines in the US, it would be the largest system in the world.
