  • Keeps you fit, and ready for a pint after.

  • Do the people of Lincolnshire have a close tie to mainland europe? I can't help but wonder if they share some cultural similarities to the dutch or danish because of their coastal location. I'm australian so I don't know much about Lincolnshire, except that some of my ancestors are from there.

  • In reply2the comment about the church, Christmas08bought many people2gether in peace+love in the mannor house marquee with a service+carols surrounded by stalls from the craft market which Is the morris dancers stage. The Grammar sch.motto 'cor unum via una' 'One heart one way'.One way is every way, every way Is one way. There is only ever one heart so therefore that IS the way.Unless of course u get a little dazed along that way with confusions degradation or the mundanity of secular temporality.

  • Wonderful preservation of English heritage. I'm also trying to preserve my Alford forebears' heritage - CADE, BEMROSE & LUCAS.

  • Did you know Morris Dancing is mentioned in Shakespeare? "The nine men's morris is filled up with mud." A Midsummer Night's Dream ActII Scene I

Beautiful scene about nature and England. Anyway thanks for this.

  • Thanks Will, I never knew about that.

  • Nine Men's Morris is a board game, something like Checkers ...

  • It may be a board game but the reference in Shakespeare is to Morris Dancing. This is why "filled up with mud". I guess one comes from the other I do not know but as I am the artistic director of the British Shakespeare company I can assure you this quote is correct and about Morris Dancing not a board game.

  • I am not artistic director of the BS company, (I don't even particularly enjoy his work) but I can absolutely assure you the quote is clearly in reference to the game, which would often be cut into, and played, on the village green.

It is even suggested that fair and dark haired children were placed as 'morris', from the Latin 'merrelus' meaning playing piece and also an alternative name for the game itself. The game and the heritage dancers are entirely unrelated.

  • makes me proud to be English too....born and bred in Lincolnshire...
