I just got the sony 55nx810, returned the first one cause of clouding and now the second one I have has clouding in the same spot!!! Does this go away over time???
Just bought a sony 55NX810 (55", 3D 200hz, LED) and i have clouding issues... Not as bad as on your video, but heck, it looks like i just bought a LCD screen!! I want the deep black LED permits
@toocoolforu Because it's edge lit.. edge lit LED is a design flaw that companies still follow no matter how much of an issue the clouding is.. full array leds are local dimming (the individual lights turn down the darker an image gets while the lights behind the illuminated part stay on) getting rid of clouding but creating another problem: blooming.. FCCL is the only reliable backlight source.
Shit, I got the same problem with my Panasonic TV, hate this. The manufacturer tested it, but they didn't exchange the chassis or something. And it's BRANDNEW. Fuck that!
@TheRiker1982 There is a way of fixing this. I got the same cloudy patches on my tv set and sony told me there was nothing wrong with it after a Tech came to my house and checked it. Well I did some research and I found out that to fix the problem so called "Mura" you have to loosen all the screws on the back of the tv that are holding the monitor? Why? The screws are so tight that they're applying pressure to the monitor. If you have the same problem it should work 4U. Loosen them a bit though
I went through three Bravia's and returned them all. Got a Toshiba Regza and it's perfect. The "Green Push" issue is EASILY fixed with the colour adjustments. The factory settings are way off and need a few simple adjustments. Very happy with it.
panasonic v10 is the best it has 40.000 contrast 2.000.000 dynamic contrast (i think this data like pmpo of music systems not rms) dvb-c-t-s all of tuners
and plus it has internet connection only youtube and a few sites but i think this is good otherwise viruses may affect to tv
You know i just got the same TV (52Z5100) and it also has some clouding issues. For me they occur on the top corners and on the sides 2/3 down from the top. I figure that it is normal for LCDs but reviews of the TV say it shouldn't have too much clouding. I only see it when the room is dark but still it is annoyiing after spending 2K.
Yea ok I get the same thing in the corners and some uneven blotches of clouds during dark scenes when the light is off. ABT just told me that this is a common thing with new lcds its just that most people dnt even notice it. My 2007 xbr5 doesnt have any of these issues because I heard its some kind of tradeoff to get a better overall picture and by all means the 52z has a phenomnal picture!
I see. Well I guess thats good to know. You are right, I don't notice it that much unless its in a dark room during dark scenes and the picture is great. But I'm going to dig into it a little more by asking a certified Sony tech. I'll let you know if I find anything new to know. Thanks for the reply.
I actually bought this tv but the 40 inch version the z5100, I returned it because of the clouding issue and I bought the samung b610 for almost half the price and the picure is actually better, the blacks are way darker and no clouding whatsoever. My friend bought the xbr9 (40 inch) and still clouding....I don't know what happened to Sony. However I felt the colors were more natural on the z5100, but with a few adjustments on the samung it got pretty close.
Ok clouding is not a problem, all new sony tvs have them and the only people that say anything about them are the ones that notice it. It is sometimes impossible to notice. As for the samsung b610 being better, that is not exactly true. The b610 does not have a 240hz refresh rate or brighter colors than this tv. This is an amazing tv and just as good as the xbr9.
You're correct there's no doubt that sony has nicer colors, but the levels of black on the samung are better. As for the 240 and 120 to be honest, me personally I cannot tell the difference, but I'm sure some people do. The clouding effect on the z5100 was pretty annoying for me, watching blu-ray where you have the two black bars, the clouding really showed. That's why I returned it. the z5100 cost me $1800 and the samsung b610 cost me $1000. The sound on the sony was better, not by much.
Oh well I guess you had a case of bad clouding on this tv. I know clouding is different on every tv. I know the thing with the samsungs is just that the picture doesnt seem that natural, it seems like it is processed alot. Anyways I have come to except the fact that no lcds do true black color so one of the selling points for me with this z series was the 100000/1 dynamic contrast ratio. Also you are right for the most part you cant tell the diff between 120 and 240 but 240hz does actually help.
if you actually spent more than a minute online checking the problem you would find it's easily fixed. And no, samsung is no way better than a bravia, the bravia has more vibrant colours, better menus and way better brightness. samsung is korean crap.
Normal CCFL backlights suck. LCD with LED backlights (not edge lit) with local dimming will give you black levels and uniformity close to a plasma if not the same. LG LH90 and Sony XBR8 are the two best. Plasma is great besides phosphor trails. Anyone who says they can't seem them is either ignorant to the issue or lying to themselves to justify their purchase.
i only see them on my panny plamsa....typically panny is the one with the phosphor trail stories now. But they really arent tht bad, and i can only see them when i play games. doesnt bother me at all though. Every other brand of plasma like vizio even, and LG that ive played video games on did not have phosphor lag. But id still rather have phosphor lag then blurring soo
Yea!! The problem is the $2000 price tag that comes with that local dimming. The Samsung UNB8500 is $3500 here in the Bay Area. The LGLH90 is $2400. Bravia CCFL 1080p 120Hz 6ms with Blu-Ray $1100. Just get your firmwear update & lower the Brightness & The Bravia preforms perfectly.Question did you think CCFL sucked 3 years ago before you ever heard of LED?
Anyone experienced this problem with the Sony KDL40V5500 ? It looks like a great TV, but if it has this problem I'm probably gonna go for a Samsung instead.
I just bought SONY LCD TV KDL40W5500 and had problem with backlight issue showing around corners. then i called the store and they replace the screen. and guess what happens? it has same problem again with backlight issue so i called the store so i got refund. it seems Sony are struggling. I used to be fan of SONY but now don't know what to say.
clouding shouldnt be on the screen of an lcd, i spoke to a tech at toshiba as i had clouding on a 46" rv555db lcd and he said it was faulty and it was to be returned to the shop, even though the shop claimed it wasnt faulty id listen to the guy that works for the company before someone at a shop
even so that clouding is a issue this video does not say a lot as it does not show on what lvl backlight is set, I got a bravia and it has also some clouding though I dont see any when I watch a movie in a dark room, backlight lvl set at 3 on standard. In vivid, high lvl backlight you will see always clouding in a darker room.
have you tried playing games and having same problem, cause right now im playing resistance fall of man,,and im inside some dark area, too much blurring it makes me feel sleepy
The new KDL40W4000 is the only Sony I have owned without clouding, the screen uformity is perfect when calibrated, having the light sensor on makes it way too cloudy in the corners, its bright too, so why include that function? They have learned their lesson, avoid all last year Bravias.
I have the same damn problem, 5k for a tv to do this????? I wish I would have gotten a PC monitor with high contrast 1080p for my gaming. The Bravia has a bright picture, and details are super. Too bad this clouding tarnishes the value of a otherwise incredible set. .
Sony is horrible for this. I went through three different Sony models before finally settling on a Toshiba - PERFECT picture with NO clouding. The so called "Green Push" is easily fixed with the colour settings. Avoid Sony - overpriced and poor quality. :(
i recently bought a 32" Samsung series 3 LCD. I do have clouding effect too. I heard it can be fixed by very lightly pressing on the LCD panel, because that guy who tried this fixed his clouding effect. Also this guy said clouding can be caused by rough shipping and handling...
ye i just bought a 40inch v-series and i noticed while i'm gaming like theres little dots blinking are those cloud dust???like the screen is fine picture is showing just i see little dots blinking...
If you are talking about a Wii, that is not your set, it is the video card dying on the game console. Clouding is uneven backlight leakage on dark screens. Flashlight effect is bleeding of light from the sides and/or corners of the tv.
My friend has this same TV, I just ordered mine last night. I watch it all the time at his house and to me it looks really awesome. There were motion blur at first when we got it, but we calibrated and fixed the settings and the problem went away. Plus, the motion blur only occured when we had the motion enhancer on. This could be fixed with noise reduction off.
Somebody told me that clouding is due to Cold temp' changes in the same room? - Apparantly the panel can 'warp' and push against the backlight? hmmmmmmmmm :(
yea, its true - i noticed the same thing, my sony lcd is right next to an open window, when i turn it on cold i get massive motion blur and backlight clouding, but after about 5 mins, it warms up and i get a fine picture. weird
After 4 Dodgy HDTV Replacement HDTV sets from Richer Sounds - Liverpool UK i finaly got my full Refund (£900) - they sold me all the crap while on display they had all the perfect sets! - The managers were right bastards about all i and had to write to the main man himself of the company to get back my cash. - 'OLED' bring em on!

WHY do TV companys leave their stupid fuckin 'LOGOS' on burning away at our expensive HDTV screens? - REMOVE them you TOSSERS!! - also some advice to gamers - dont play the game for more than an hour each day - only watch plain TV channells with the ZOOM feature ON as to take off the channel LOGOS! as even these cause SCREENBURN too
everyone - be aware anything BRIGHT on ANY screen will 'BURN' away at your screen!
I rated you down because you're talking about plasmas, not LCDs. It's a common misconception that LCD screens do the same thing as plasmas and give burn in, however, I have literally had to leave my TV on over night with the same image on it to convince people that burn in just does not occur on LCDs.
Burn in can occur on LCDs, it's just not permanent and will go away after a short time, especially with the TV off. They're very resistant to burn in so not to worry.
It happened to me once with my LCD monitor when I left it on overnight and the screensaver didn't trigger. I had outlines of a few desktop icons retained on the screen. I turned off the LCD for 15 minutes and when I turned it back on they were gone. :)
I got a Samsung LN-T4665F and thers slight clouding but your shit is fucked up!!!! My 1st was kinda bad but if you tweak the backlight and contrast its no big deal. At least theres no burn in.
Thats because Sony panels are Samsung panels. Mitsibishi also buy their panels from Samsung. The only thing that differs is the companent around the panel like the graphics card, sound, power, etc.
i just bought the 46" XBR4 lcd, many have said this is the best lcd of the year...yet i have clouding...im giving up on lcd, im going rear projection, lcd can kiss my ass with its grey blacks and mura backlighting, and its not sony's fault all lcd's have these problems. They just dont look good in dark rooms, i gave it a shot and it backfired.
all the new plasmas have less prey to burn in, and burn in rarly happens unless u keep image for 6+ hours, you see the new LED LCD by samsung, the blacks are amazing clsoe to plasma
I have a Sanyo 42 inch LCD that I recently purchased. I didn't know there was a word describing what I was seeing in the top right corner of the screen. Will clouding get worse? I don't know if it is my imagination but it seems like it has become more noticeable within a month. Taking this back would be a bitch.
Hi de hi folks, I am suffering over the possible purchase of a Sony 32 inch TAV-L1 it has a drop down panel at the front. Anyway I really cant afford this unit at the moment and I have to move it across Europe at my own expense ( its not available any more on the market) so I never heard till now any negative feed-back from LCD users, especially Sony. I'm actually a bit of a Sony fan! Would appreciate it if anybody has expierence of this model or knows someone who has. Thanks.
I own the 52" XBR3 Bravia and this clouding drove me nutz for 1st 2 months. After I fixed my back lighting I never notice it anymore.
Mura is the nature of the beast with LCD's. THEY ALL suffer from mura .. you can get lucky or unlucky with yoru purchase sometimes the mura is light somtimes its heavy. These Bravias are just very brightly lit TV's by defualt so it jumps out in your face.
Yes Samsung and Sharp too.. go read up.. I seen endless pictures from them showing Mura too.
Sony sucks. I went through two Bravia TVs with major clouding problems. Returned both, and now I'm going to try Toshiba. Hopefully, this TV will be better (fingers crossed).
In the passage from a luminos scene to a dark scene or to an image where there is black screen with a logo, in the space where the image is black i can see the "ghost" of the previous image. :|
i have sent it in attendance.
PS=sorry for the english, i don't speak it very well :P

Besides plasmas don't really burn-in anymore.

If you think Bravias are good then take a look at Regzas 37" LCD and Pioneer 42" Plasma.

Thats because Sony panels are Samsung panels. Mitsibishi also buy their panels from Samsung. The only thing that differs is the companent around the panel like the graphics card, sound, power, etc.

Samsung owns, it's as simple as that. =)

recently i've got a similar problem.
In the passage from a luminos scene to a dark scene or to an image where there is black screen with a logo, in the space where the image is black i can see the "ghost" of the previous image. :|
i have sent it in attendance.
PS=sorry for the english, i don't speak it very well :P

Sign of a poorly configured unit. You have your backlight/gamma/brightness/contrast/Black Correction set wrong.
jaguarf11 4 years ago
It has NOTHING to do with wrong settings. It is an unacceptable flaw that Sony don't care about fixing. It is NOT due to a person's chosen settings.
clinteastwoodsballs 4 years ago
Not really. Gamma, Brightness, Contrast, and Black Corrector (ugh) are video processing adjustments that have no effect on faulty panel hardware.
Lowering the Backlight will make the problem harder to spot, but the Backlight in this video is already lowered.
