@3DSFuture, I am Polish as well. Soviet big nation chauvinism was bad after they neglected on helping the Home Army liberate Warsaw, when they confiscated Polish livestock, and so on. But you have to remember that Moscow seized areas that were predominately Russian-speaking that were taken from the Soviet Union under the Treaty of Brest Litovsk. They were also areas that they could mount strong defensive positions from.

The heroic struggle of the Partisans will always be remembered as an important contribution to death of fascism and liberation of Europe. They became such a nightmare for the Nazis that the Nazis had to resort to killing innocent civilians (non-Jews) as their form of combat.

One of the biggest myth of "Great Patriotic War" is this so called Partisan War. Actually partisans never caused real danger and real big harm for Germans. And Soviet official history don't want to remind that there were much much more pro Germans amoung civilians than Pro Partisans. Even in Belo Russia.

Partisans "destroying German military power" is just another stalinist myth.

@notaire2 Terrorismus aus dem Hinterhalt ist unerlaubt nach Kriegsrecht. Das zog die Vergeltungen nach sich. Allerdings war das NS-Regime zu hart. Es hätte ukrainische und russische Antikommunisten und die bäuerliche Bevölkerung leicht für sich gewinnen können. Der Wallone Dr. Léon Degrelle tat dies an der Front bei Leningrad/St. Petersburg 1943, wurde dafür vom SS-Rassenamt jedoch bestraft. I have NO respect for Partisans. They are out of uniform, hit and run tactics, which maybe fine. Now, if you were in the place of the Germans, and you have a jerk shooting at you, not in uniform, what would you do or how would you re-act. Remember, ours boys(American Army) had to put up with that shit in Vietnam (Viet-Cong). Again, I don't blame any-one who re-acts any way to Partisans. Plus, the rules of war is, if out of uniform you can be executed!!!

The USSR never signed the Geneva convention. Second , the partizans weren't regular soldiers, but civilians with guns. They terrorized the civilian population and attacked the German troops behind the frontlines. Partizans were regarded as saboteurs and terrorists, and it was allowed to kill them at the spot , in German this is called : " standrecht '. In a war only regular soldiers are allowed to wear arms and uniforms.
