jesus h christ the worst version of this song ive ever heard. billy what were you thinkin?
elvis? cliff/? no its like a robot singing wtf?? nae wonder nobody remembers you. you sang shite songs.but by you had a unique voice so fuckin sad this pish
Billy Fury does a great job with this song, thanks for posting! However one of the most moving versions was sung by Lonnie Donegan! Alas it has been removed from YouTube, some problem with UMG? If anyone can upload Lonnie's version it would be a treat for us all!
I spent my first 4 years in an orphanage, then 3 foster homes till I was fostered long term and they became my family, this song i sang in the 60s with sadness of those times, just thought i would play it again, today I am somebodys child, I have 7 children and 11 grand children, and over the years have given much that others may become somebodys child, I thank God for the chance I have had, my wife died 2007 so i have known pain but plenty joy.( now remarried.) secure in Gods love. harry
i heard this when i was small i had my dad and mum then now i dont my dad died my mum faded so im alone apart from my own family miss them both XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I bought this EP when it was released in the shop in the 60's a treasured possession the song my husband and I used to listen to when we started courting all those years ago, wonderful, Billy my favourite singer. He is truly Britain's greatest singer.
I heard about this song from a book I'm reading right now. It's about John Lennon's childhood, and a band member from the Quarry Men said that John used to sing this with great emotion.
Hi, according to various independent sources on the Internet the song "Nobody's Child" was written by Cy Coben and Mel Foree; and it was apparently first recorded by Hank Snow in 1949. It seems that Hank snow recorded quite a few of Coben's songs during his career :)
My mum used to sing this to me and it would make me cry..she had an amazing voice.... and she would asked me why I asked her to sing it if it made me cry...my eyes are all teary ..just hearing it now such a beautiful and sad song
I remember Billy very well, I even mane my German Shepherd dog after him 'Fury'
Shame he always looked ill to me, he had Rheumatic fever as a child and suffered with it all his life, eventually it effected his heart and he died in Jan 1983 or there abouts.
Not the original version, but let me know if you find someone who sings this as well as Billy. A real artist and i'm realiably informed better live than on record. A bit like jimmy Barnes.
awsom me mam used to call me and me brothers nobodys child after we d been out playing went out nice and clean & came home covered from head to toe great days she used to listen to the alixander brothes singing it
I heard this for the first time at the uk stage show the "sound of fury",the audience was deathly quiet and i didnt realise till the song ended that i was crying as were most of the audience
My Great Grandfather & Grandfather both loved this version of this song. I never knew who sung it. Thank you for posting. It's been over 30 years since I heard this haunting song.
This 1963 EP is surely very rare today!

the verse that is missing goes as follows
People come for children and take them for their own
But they all seem to pass me by and I am left alone
I know they'd like to take me but when they see I'm blind
They always take some other child and I am left behind
