  • Its so good you don't want it to end.

  • they are geniuses!

  • Amazing talent from an era long gone.

  • People wonder why I find the Marx Brothers funny. I wonder why they don't.

  • @Spongenat you are so right!

  • I am imaginin as little boys taking music lessons...or did they learn by ear..theyre so talented.....

  • No offense, but I don't know where you got information that Harpo was a fine pianist. In his book, Harpo Speaks, he basically says he was not fine. He played some piano, self taught, but it was only Chico who got the lessons. Certainly one of the finest harpists...but with his own self taught technique. According to his book, harpists who he asked to teach him wound up watching him play in awe and wanting to learn his technique on harp. however, his adopted son became a fine musician.

  • @Timlinthomasp geez... If only I could have learned from those two... :(

  • what key? chords>>?

  • Fantastic!!

  • 1:00 i love how Harpo imitate chico with the JAJAJA, and ends so funny

  • THESE ARE MY PEOPLE

  • One of the greatest scenes ever...........

  • 2:00 ahhhh harpo slamming the keys

  • Chico was 54 when this movie was released, and it's the first Marx film where he really starts to show his age on camera...but he hasn't lost even a shred of his talent!

  • @ samtheman264 : Not off the top of my head, although I know the harp scene in Go West! is definately pre-recorded.

  • They were all self taught. They faced Great prejudice, and poverty, overcame it all,

and live on. Have always loved them.

  • a great performance by two talented guys.

I've heard a story that once, when they were doing live theatre, they switched roles and played each others characters. This was mostly meant to be for the amusement of Chico's daughter Maxine but unfortunately Maxine had decided to skip that performance and get her hair done. She later considered that one of her biggest regrets, because they never did it again.

  • I'm only 16, but the only movies my dad would let us watch when we were little were these fantastic men and some occasional Buster Keaton. Revisiting this stuff now seriously just makes my day. Growing up on this stuff was amazing, even though it was far before my time.

  • These two should have been recording rolls for QRS. Seriously. They're that good, even I look up to them today and I don't play piano anymore.

  • Oh no ! Victor Borge stole from THE MARX BROTHERS!!!

  • *sings the song while they play it*

  • how come i never found this?

    absolutely beautiful...

  • entertaining indeed!!!

  • very talented and funny duo at their best. entertaining indeed!!

  • Now THAT'S Entertainment... it's just so much fun to watch.

  • THIS IS GREAT!!!! BEST COMEDY AROUND

  • @Hammerzeiterr

What kind of sense of humour have you? This is comedy at it's best!

  • Brilliant! Very talented!!

  • SMILE :)

  • Harpo isn't mimicking. He could play as well.

  • this is what I call....entertainment & skills...I miss these things on tv..nowadays its all crap

  • @freakyhead20 True! Yet only we, the viewers, can make the changes needed to restore the GOOD to TV, Movies, our communities, our politics, our lives.

  • Harpo is at least partially mimicking his piano playing, but his ability to make it look real is just as ingenious!

  • The song is actually a Brazilian Portuguese song titled Mamãe eu Quero, made famous by Carmen Miranda

  • this is great and will go viral. reminds me of my dad and my uncle, and me and my brothers. thanks for posting!! my dad came from the era of novelty piano and he had a few samples up his sleeve himself

  • Harpo's facial expressions are priceless.

  • That's how you get somewhere in the world: be original.

  • is it possible to get sheet music for this?

  • It's Mama Eu Quiero (Portuguese) not Spanish. Blessed be phenomenal talent and the forever lovable trio of Groucho, Chico, and Harpo.

  • And this is one of the reasons why I wish I could play the piano half as good as Chico. Him and harpo in this are both amazing and hysterical here.

  • Thanks to YouTube, this will be enjoyed by all with InfoSuperhighway access as long as there is paving! All Hail Comrades Marx!

  • yo quisiera saber quienes son los anormales q votam dont like a este video...

  • One of my favorite Chico/Harpo scenes.Beautiful piano with jokes thrown in.Classic!

  • Considering the comedians of this age I find it so hard to believe that these guys were actually so talented. I wish the standard these guys set had stuck.

  • @ExoticKosher They grew up as the kings of the american varietés learning the best sketches that made laughs from the public.

  • @ExoticKosher ABSOLUTELY!

  • 1:00 ROFL

  • I really love this guys. Made my life a lot easier.

  • There are millions of us who remember and love the Marx Brothers. 'May it be that they share an honored place in Heaven!

  • I don't think anyone could play the piano like Chico did even if they tried. He was far too unique. All 3 brothers are one of my inspirations with music and comedy.

  • @LoverOfVenom Harpo was a fine pianist as well, but he did not like to upstage anyone, which is why he stuck with the harp.

  • his fingers look like they are literally doing a dance. i'm in awe

  • awesome chicks always dig muscicians

  • @alive726 Yes. According to Groucho, Chico got PLENTY of tail.

  • @001bf How about Harpo? I bet you'd hear squeaks and honking.

  • k cracksssssssss¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Very nice , but it's really Portuguese, "Mamãe, eu quero" which means the same as the Spanish given above, as popularised by Carmen Miranda, the so-called Brazilian Bombshell. It was also called "A chupeta", (the dummy, or in American, pacifier,

and caused some hostility in Rio at the time from proponents of breast-feeding.

  • The Big Store was a mediocre Marx Bros. vehicle at best, but this and Harpo's harp scene make it worth the price of admission for me. What awesomely talented guys.

  • Harpo isn't really playing the right notes... this must've been done on a "silent" piano and they were playing to a recording. In fact, Wikipedia says Harpo couldn't play the piano. Chico, however, was an accomplished pianist, and his part is spot-on.

  • @joemaffei u no wiki is full of bs???

  • @EDDiiFRanKliN sure, but you can tell Harpo isn't playing the right part. Try to copy his left hand part on a piano and hear it yourself. :)

  • @joemaffei In Harpo's autobio (from what i've read so far) he could only play two songs. But he would play them in different keys to make them sound different. Chico was supposed to teach Harpo how to play the piano but went gambling instead so Harpo learned to play on his own :)

  • More people knows of the Marx Brothers today than they did in the 40's. Really now. I thought it was Charlie Chaplin.

  • That's a way to play the piano :-)

  • Alas, one of my great regrets is that I never took up the piano. Howver, I live with a Korean family. The young daughter gave up on the piano even though she has some talent. But, when I show her this video it inpires her to play again. Anyway, it always makes me laugh and I certainly wish that I had Chico's great talent.

  • The older i get, the more impressed with this set of brothers. What incredible gifts these men had and their movies still stand the test of time. I wish some of today's entertainers would take a hint: you don't have to be profane to be entertaining

  • This should make you smile!

  • Does anyone know where to get the sheet music for this - at least for Chico's part? We'd love to try it!

  • Harpo's face at 0:54...lmao!!

  • Amazing how good the sequence is apart from the dull, boring "Big Store."

  • Jajajajajajajajajaajajajaj!!!!! Uy que arte más grande!!!! Jajajajajajajajajajajaja!!!

  • Ya te digo...aquí has apostado sobre seguro bandiiidaaa!! jajajaja.

  • Few things give me Joy quite like the Marx Bros.

  • Hey these guys were kids before radio,

TV, and movies but almost every home

had a piano. Kids would goof off doing

stuff like this on Saturdays and Holidays

when it rained out. Kind of makes you

wish things hadn't TURNED TO SH*T,

    doesn't it?

  • they dont make them like that anymore they def got the x factor

  • Fantastici!

  • Does Harpo ever look at what he is playing? The few time he looks at the piano he's watching Chico.

  • Harpo was easily the most talented brother. He could play the piano, was beautiful on the harp, a great physical comedian and, most suprisingly, an accomplished gymnast. Watch the end of A Night At The Opera to see what I mean.

  • did he really do ALL those stunts?

  • yep.

  • He was also the only one who managed to keep the same wife 'till death... lol

(Well, apart from Gummo, but he wasn't as famous :P)

  • Screw Gummo. Nobody cares about him or Zeppo.

    kidding.

  • @InvaderJem Are you talking about Harpo, he was only married once from 1938 untilll he died in 1964. Her name was Susan and together her and Harpo loved and rased thier 4 childern. By all that I read it was a loveing marriage and family life

  • He wouldn't need to. It's all muscle memory! He's playing the harmony. It's the melody (right hand) that you usually have to pay attention to when you're playing...

  • Which movie is this from? I loveee it!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Harpo's facial expressions always crack me up.

  • same here dude...

  • this is great because you know they're actually playing it, nowadays they'd record it in a studio then hide their hands with a shit camera angle.

  • @ajk1989 Well, a few of the piano/harp scenes were pre-recorded for the Marx Bros' films - although it wasn't someone else playing the instrument for them, it was the Marxes themselves playing. There was/is no question that these guys had talent as musicians and comedians...something which is as rare as hens' teeth nowadays.

  • Comment removed

  • @ajk1989 You don't get that sort of sound quality when filming at the same time, especially with everything else going on. This was pre-recorded, and then they did their show. However, they DID do all their own music, and all or all but one of them really was an excellent musician.

  • From what I've heard, the Big Store isn't supposed to be very good. But this clip seems to say otherwise.

  • Ya. I was so excited to see this movie. But it wasn't very good. But if your a fan of the marx brothers. It's still a good laugh. The ending is satisfactory for me.

  • Well The Big Store has some good moments, like this clip, but overall it's not their best. Their earlier Paramounts films are the best. :)

  • i love the gliss!

  • pure genious

  • zuahahhaa very funny

  • The Marx Brothers are the best. Love you guys!

  • i cant stop wistling this !

    ! R I P the marx brothers ....

  • they are AMAZING

    best partners in crime ever

  • such amazing skill..most concert pianists couldn't do that..playing while hopping about and clowning like that

  • fantastic

  • so much fun to watch...

  • Where did all the talent go? that is amazing stuff..and so entertaining.

  • watch chicos fingers fly!!!!!!!

  • these two are just the perfect comedy duo, they just work together

  • How can you NOT smile - or laugh - when Chico and Harpo team for this one of a kind rendition of MAMA YO QUIERO (made famous by Carmen Miranda who sung it in Portuguese). Thanks for posting this marvelous clip from

  • ...or "I love you Mama."

Depending on your knowledge of Spanish, of course...

  • I love you, Mama.

Maybe you should've written it "Mama, yo quiero."

  • is mama, i want to

  • people its actually mama i want you if you ever took spanish one you would know this wow

  • thats funny because i am spanish you have an idea but its a hundred percent correct maybe the idea is" mama i love you" but Mama yo quiero is a wish for us so you say :Mama i want to...(and the expression could be go to cinema or somethig like that) thanks y ya es hora de aprender español

  • alright thatnks

  • As a pianist myself, these guys simply blow my mind! Perfect combination of comedy and musical talent.

  • @squishym You forgot to mix a hint of sibling rivalry and brotherly love in your combination! :D

  • simply love the fast fingers!!!!

  • Chico Is the Best

  • cgi is no substitute for good talent.

  • Yeah, sure CGI in 1941...

Chico is an amazing piano player, they've been repeating this for hours before it was good. If you think we can't play piano without CGI, i can nothing for you man...

  • Almost 70 years old and still funny. Quality humour lasts but I bet that there won't be much of today's comedy that people still enjoy in 2075.

  • @lotus49a

2075? I dont enjoy it now. lol I am from Generation X and love the comedies from the Black & White film era. Mel Brooks, Benny Hill and Monty Python are the only really funny guys with some exceptions like the old SNL cast that are funny in the last 40 years.

  • @elijahkelso are you serious? flight of the conchords is a one trick pony that keeps it pretty boring.

  • @lotus49a

    really man,,,,,,, really?

  • @defendingdallas I support lotus49's comment.

  • @lotus49a Don't be that way.

  • @lotus49a

lol are you joking? some of the movies of our generation will be glorified for many more generations to come

  • @AdiOEleM2

Of course only time will tell but think back to the film comedies of the 70s and 80s, very few of them are still watched, much less venerated in the way that some of the best Marx Bros films still are.

Can you name a few recent comedy films that you think will stand the test of time? I'm genuinely interested to know which ones you think might. Unfortunately I'm not likely to live long enough to find out as I'm already in my 40s so I'd be 110 in 70 years.

  • @lotus49a I actually think it's the opposite... the only reason comedy of this nature still lives on is because people are old enough to remember it... do you find comedy of the 19th century still funny? in 2075, the will forget this even existed... sad but true... comedy of todays age will be the new "classic" comedy

  • @camel595

As a matter of fact I do. I just got an ebook reader recently and the first two books I am (re-)reading are Pride & Prejudice and The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy published in 1813 and 1759 respectively. Both have made me laugh out loud, something few books do.

Nevertheless, perhaps you are right. Only time will tell and I don't expect to live long enough to find out.

  • @camel595, sometimes, yes, sometimes no. I find Jonathan Swift to be funny, even though it's rarely laugh out loud funny.

But you see, the Marx Bros. and their contemporaries have been recorded on film, a relatively "new" medium, and we've yet to see how well this kind of humor will play in the long run.

  • I second ProCraigGuy's comments...Chico and Harpo are brilliant! What joy they brought to so many (and still do thanks to posters like you). Thanks!!

  • it's just friggin' hilarious... no fat panda can get even close to those folks!

  • omg i love harpo he is adorable and funny

  • These guys are just amazing.

It's really a shame that there aren't talented musicians/actors today like these guys.

    Thank you for posting!!!
