  • CooooL :-)

  • Love this!!!

  • *****nice

  • Very authentic. Love the Carter-style guitar playing, and played on the right guitar to get the job done!

  • very nice playing.well done

  • very nice 5*

  • I just love it!

  • Thanks! :o)

  • Ass kick'n ! !

  • I really enjoyed that - very nice picking! I have heard the skillet lickers version as well and if you are interested, I have deciphered most of the lyrics. All in all just more silly verses - but what a fun song. I just uploaded a uploaded my version (banjo + singing) if you care to give it a listen.

  • Thank you. And I would love to see the lyrics you have decifered. I found the lyrics for this one on a website with lyrics for old traditional songs. It was impossible for me to hear what Gid Tanner was singing on the old recording I have. And the fact that english is not my native language doesn't make it easier.

I just listened to your version, and I like that. Good job.

  • great job 5*****

  • thank you so much!! My pops used to sing this song to me, brought back good memories!!

  • good playing and singing! When you first started playing it, one of my kids was singing "There ain't no bugs on me, there ain't no bugs on me. There may be bugs on some of you mugs, but there ain't no bugs on me" so I guess this is the music someone got for that song. Again, good job!

  • Thank you very much. I love the thought that your kid sang along. I know that there's several other lyrics for the song.

I first heard it with Gid Tanner and His Skillet Lickers as i write.

But it was from an old record, and I had a hard time hearing what they were singing, so i looked it up on a website with lyrics for traditional old songs, and found the lyrics i sing here. I think they are very funny. I'd love to hear more of the Bugs version :-)

  • i am thinking of purchasing a Washburn Parlor Guitar to play around with - any advice would be appreciated

    Rick

  • The guitar I play here is a Blueridge which I can recommend. I guess you have seen the Washburn parlor in some of my other videos? It's their 125 year anniversary copy of their first parlor guitars. If you like the sound, go for it. They have made three different versions, and i would suggest you go for the one in the middle, but make sure, that it has a solid spruce top. It's an OK instrument to play for certain kinds of music. It's OK for old-time music, and for fingerpicking blues or slide.

  • you play great!

We dont get a chance to hear this style of playing too often.

    thanks

    Rick

  • Thank you Rick. It's very kind of you. We don't hear this style of playing too much around here neither. If i didn't do it and find the music, and know a few people who are also into the old time music, I wouldn't know, but I really love this kind of music, so I take time to explore it.

    Jesper

  • I came across the title of this song when reading George Orwell's biography about his days in Birma, he used to listen to this. Funny. :)

    Great bluegrass feeling.
