  • The Internet cannot answer this question for me so perhaps someone here can. How do you disable Malware detection in Avira? And no it's not done with the exceptions list, I've done all that and it still finds a particular file as Malware. I have other "better" programs to deal with it that are way less intrusive than how Avira freaks out every time you browse past a folder it thinks has Malware inside. So...any help will be appreciated.

  • @Aeonboom exceptions list works, but maybe you are a little confuse. There are two exceptions lists, one for system scanner and one for realtime protection. Make sure add the exe that you trust and avira detect as malware in both options.

  • @interlinkknight Thanks for the advice so far!! I've looked through every part of expert, and I only see one exceptions list. Where about's is it? =)

  • @Aeonboom Go to configurations -> PC protection -> System scanner -> Scan -> Exceptions.

The other one is in configurations -> PC protection -> Realtime protection -> Acan -> Exceptions.

The first add exceptions when you scan the computer for viruses. The second one add exceptions when you are exploring files and avira auto detects in real time. I think this is confusing and should change (it should be 1 exceptions list for all), but anyway it should do the trick.

  • @interlinkknight Ahhhh nice one man...lol It was right there too, can't believe I didn't see it! Thanks so much for this!

  • vc nao sabem fala em portugues?

  • can you do it on avast 4.8?

  • @nikkolei avast 4.8? Avast doesnt have ads, but you can make the same procedure shown here to block any file

  • @interlinkknight i has an advertisement telling me to upgrade to 5.0

  • @nikkolei Well, I don't know if it can work but try to disable the file "ashUpd.exe" that is on the Avast directory. When I say disable I mean like I show in the video.

I can't say if this can work because I am using Avast 5 right now and I don’t have your problem. I am basically guessing.

Although I do recommend to upgrade because is important to have the best/new/advanced/updated antivirus version that you can to keep your computer save. And version 5 works great

    Tell me if it work...

  • @interlinkknight its cracked you know? 2345 days left.... T_T

  • @nikkolei Still, you should download the last version of avast and reinstall, or what ever. You can crack the new version to have the professional version, if that is what you want

  • doesn't work on w7 home prem nor does fred51's no notify 3.41. bah!

  • Cool video buddy! =D

  • thanks :)

  • FUCKING FRAUD!

  • @XNormalProductions This is for the AVIRA antivirus (a real top-rated antivirus). If you are having problems with a malware call antivir, is a scam to fool you. Read the description of this video to know more about it and remove that malware.

All these scams are not related with the real Avira antivirus. If you don't believe me, search in Google, CNET, AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, PC World, Wikipedia, etc. All will show you that

  • @XNormalProductions doesn't work for w7 home prem nor does fred51's no notify 3.41!

  • i cant find it under PROGRAM FILES for windows vista

  • @BigaznPARK Search in your computer for avnotify.exe

  • They kind of fixed it. It's now a pop-under, which makes it infinitely better.

  • @behinderteleberwurst Actually no. I have version 10 and when I allow access to avnotify.exe and later I update, the same popup ad appears. Maybe you are confuse with another kind of notification.

Avira is keeping the ads like always has.

  • @interlinkknight Nope, not confusing it with anything. It pops up behind everything else and out of focus. Works that way on 2 different Systems running Windows 7.

  • @behinderteleberwurst I'm not sure I understand exactly what you say but seems is only for Windows 7. I use XP and the popup is like I show in the video. Even with Avira Personal 10.

Anyway, is strange but it doesn't matter. Still is annoying.

  • ...

  • it is a virus, they use loads of ppl to post fake reviews on how great it is which is why if u type it in google it will almost seem legit, dont use it, use norton or similar program unless ur a fat nerd who built his own computer

  • @Worth22

You are crazy men. You think you know better than CNET, AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, PC World, everyone on Wikipedia, millions of Avira users, etc.?

Norton is not free so is not a good substitute to Avira. Avast is also great and is free too.

Maybe you work for Norton and you feel that Avira is taken all the users away from Symantec. Or you are really crazy and you think everything is a conspiracy.

    Grow up.

  • @Worth22 Use Norton? Are you fuck!ng serious? Talk about viruses... Try to remove every bit of Norton (Symantec) off your computer. It's nearly impossible to find all the files they have hidden on your computer watching your every keystroke.

  • Any idea for the version 10 of Avira?

  • @prodigious08 Is the same procedure for version 10

  • instead of antivir personal edition it says antivir desktop instead, and i downloaded it from cnet, and this one keeps giving me the nag screen to buy the product, why would this one be a fake

  • As far I know Avira doesn't have a desktop version.

    There is:

    Avira AntiVir Personal (free)

    Avira Premium Security Suite

    Avira AntiVir Premium

    Avira AntiVir Professional

If it doesn't say Avira, then is a fake.

Search in goggle for AVIRA. The first and second websites are the official sites: Avira and Free-av

  • @interlinkknight

it is real, i have the Avira AntiVir Desktop too!

  • @Justinlee21 No, there's no Avira AntiVir Desktop version.

Search for it and you will not find anything like that.

Maybe you are confuse because the Avira directory is "C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop" but that doesn't mean that's the version/edition.

If it say "Avira AntiVir Desktop" in the application, you most consider that is a fake application.

  • @interlinkknight When I searched avira i clicked on the first link and downloaded it. The free version is what i downloaded and it says desktop.

  • @MrOcturnal I dont know what are you talking about. I search in google for the word "Avira" and didn't see the worth "desktop" anywhere.

Like i say before, "Antivir Desktop" is a virus/malware.

  • @adamdeliyia It's not fake. Avira free is desktop. Avira calls it desktop and free

  • AntiVir IS a virus! It keeps annoying me with that little screen for when you run something. It just pops up. I click "Do not Allow". Because it said the publisher was not validated. Then I finally clicked Allow because it was annoying me and Microsoft Security Essentials popped up saying "A threat was detected." I cleaned my computer and the Antivir Setup disappeared. Then I checked the History and it said it found 3 trojans.

  • Hey, read the description of this video. I know there's a lot of malwares call Antivir, but this video is about Avira Antivir (the real antivirus). There's a big difference.

    Remember that

  • your saying there is an antivirus progam and a malware with the exact same name? ur an idiot do not trust anything related to avira or antivir, free anti virus? lol sounds nice but just pony up and get a real program like norton dont be an idiot!

  • @Worth22 Idiot? real program like norton? Do a research, Avira is one of the best antivirus. Avira won the "AV Product of the Year" in 2008, and is still the best in many characteristics.

And is not true, the malware doesn't have the exact same name. The malwares just use the name "Antivir" to scam people.

Is very easy to download the real avira. Write Avira in google and the first and second pages are the official sites.

Norton is good too but don't say nonsenses like that.

  • OK, I did a right click on Software Restriction Policies choose tasks.. and the Additional Rules shows up.I Completed the instructions. and everything is done. Thanks again!

  • Hello,

Thank you for your good explanation. I have Windows XP PRO. after opening the Software Restriction Policies I didn't find Additional Rules it was empty! any idea? anyway I voted 5 stars.

  • Yes, that's a little mistake I made in the video. Because I already Create New Restriction Policies before making the video I skip this step: Click on Software Restriction Policy go to Action (at the top) Create New Restriction Policies.

I write in the Annotations this missing step so for now on nobody will confuse.

  • very comprehensive - many thanks!!

  • you are welcome

  • Antivir came up on my screen when i logged on 10 mins ago, didn't let me ex it off and automaticly pressed run when i didn't even do that. Then AVG told me i had 17 threats in a matter of 33 seconds. ;o

I know this isn't Avira AntiVir but just telling anyone that might fall victim to the scam.

  • Is true. There are several malwares call Antivir that are a scam.

The key word to find and download the real Antivir antivirus is "AVIRA". If it doesn't say is Avira then is a scam.

  • thanks!

does it work with avira 9?

  • yes

  • thank you!

  • tnx bro!

  • If yall want a good Anti-virus software just go download Microsoft Security Essentials its free and a very good program, i highly recommend it.

  • Actually Microsoft Security Essentials is not that great.

Take a look in to the av-comparatives org reports and you will know that Avira is a lot better than Security Essentials: in performance, detection rate, proactive on-demand detection, etc. except for false-positive, but that's not big deal.

Overall, Avira, Symantec, Avast, BitDefender, NOD32 and Kaspersky are better than Security Essentials.

Although I most admit that Security Essentials is not crap, is just not that great.

  • nice!!! thanks!

  • thanks!!!

  • thanks buddy.

    thats help me lot..........

  • What if i dont have the antivir, but whenever i go to a site it says "Warning this site may have viruses," or something. and tells me i should buy antivir

  • If you doesn't have Avira installed, why are you asking that?

Some browsers give warnings like that in some pages.

If you mean that you have Avira Free Edition installed, not the Premium, but you got that warning? I don't know, I never got that warning.

If you really want help, give us more information and details about the problem. What browser do you use? What exactly say in the warning message? What version of Avira do you have? What website do try to enter that cause this warning? Etc

  • Well i dont have avira installed i have McAfee, and i use Emachine. and just about every website. so i dunno

  • Then, of course I can't help you.

It can be that McAfee is fuking with you; it can be that you already have a virus.

    Good luck

  • any website lol even youtube its a scam

  • same here

  • You are talking about the malware call "Antivir" that is a scam. This video is for the real Avira Antivir free Antivirus.

That warning that say you should buy antivir is caused by a virus, and it doesnt have anything to do with Avira.

Just install a good antivirus updated and scan your computer.

  • Best method is imo by ACL's since it's everywhere possible (if not boot into safe-mode by pressing F8 during boot):

Mark avnotify.exe - contextmenu - properties - Security - advanched - tab "warranties"(?; Berechtigungen in german) - change warrenties - and deny "scan directory/ execute file" for both "System" and the group "Users"

So read access is still granted but it can't execute the files AND Antivir doesn't complain that avnotify.exe has been changed; yet it still updates normally

  • I have a similar problem but i get a red screen wen i open up a new screen (say like im opening up facebook). i have a new hp with windows 7 and I dont know how to delete this stupid antivir from stop popping up

  • When you restict the access to Avnotivy.exe via ACL (read/execute disallowed) don't you always get an "The File-size of avnotify.exe ahs been altered. This could have been caused by a virus..."? (or simelar)

  • No, I dont get any error. What OS do you use?

  • I fixed it myself meanwhile.

Point is: ONLY prohibit EXECUTIO for system+users, read-access must still be provided

This is only possible if you go in the advanced/special ACL-options

for the record: I use Win7 x64 (Final Version) and use Avira Antivir 9.x; same issue is probably issue in every OS (XP/Vista)

  • I'm not sure I understand why you got that problem but I'm glad you fix it.

I use XP and nothing about execution or read-access is in the Local Security Policy so I think the problem is in the way the procedure needs to be done on Win7. That's why I still don't write about how to do this in Win7, I don't know how.

Zeosrule comment that with Win7 is the same procedure to WinXP. Maybe that depends in which version of Win7 is.

  • can you help with my problem?

  • Havn't you seen my post in the "tread" above?

(Best method is imo by ACL's since it's everywhere possible...)

  • how do you remove it?

    i cannot delete it

and it keeps download 2 files time by time

    i hate this thing

    why so famous?

  • I dont understand.

"how do you remove it?". The popup ad? Like I show in the video.

"it keeps download 2 files time by time". What are you talking about?

"why so famous?". Avira? Because it has the best detection rate of all antivirus, and it use fewer resources so dont slowdown your computer.

  • i wanna remove everything of avira

is annoying the crap outta me

    so lagging@

  • This solution works. If for some other reason Avira is nagging you, just uninstall.

  • i cannot find the uninstall thingy

i using the 30 day limit

  • thanks .. nice tutor

  • I use windows xp home and secpol.msc does not show up in run. What would be the best way to stop the adds using xp home? Thank you.

  • Read in the video description for the instructions to stop the adds in Windows XP Home

  • Thanks!

  • thanks. it was very annoying.

  • in windows 7 in the start search thing type sec then click the first one

    2. Click on Software Restriction Policy -- Action -- Create new restriction policy -- right-click on Additional Rules -- choose New Path Rule

    3. Click Browse and find the avnotify.exe file (C:\Program File\\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic)

    4. Make sure the security level is set to Disallowed and click OK

  • thanks mate

  • i didnt get it but after seeing this i delleted this shit

  • I checket my computer for viruses and i played a game . BUT!! Then they comes 7 or mor times the self virus and piep piep piep piep piep piep.I was VERYY scared

  • I dont understand. What do you mean? Are you talking about an virus attack?

  • yes a virus attack.ahm, but not one atack

  • Well durr, if you have a virus you should be notified, because Avira needs to know if it's a false positive or not. Also, learn english, you 12- year old.

  • Thats strange. Since when you delete the file? Maybe you didnt try letting pass a few days between updates.

Without doing anything to Avira, the update ad appears only one time. If you update and try again the ad will not appear until the next day.

Everyone here as already try deleting the file, including me. Let pass a few days and tell me if you still dont get the ad.

  • Deleting, moving or renaming avnotify.exe doesnt work. Avira restore the file, like Windows restore system-files when they are deleted, moved or renamed.

You can try it if you want. You will see that the file avnotify.exe will reappears in the Avira directory.

  • awa biong te kazume AVIRA! te te kom pale sei mota #1 ! bravo! 10/10 !

  • toympano se lew, toympano, xthnos, bravo re magka eyge soy, mas eswses me ayth th malakia toy avira, gamw thn katadikh toy, bravo, 5/5!

  • Can you or anybody who speech Greek translate the comment to English? I try to translate it but I can't.

I think is a positive comment but I don't understand anything, well except: "bravo", "5/5" and "avira".

  • hehe, its definitely a positive comment including lots of greek slang, so no translator will help you. as a matter of fact even i cannot translate it exactly to english, i wouldnt know the proper words. more or less its something like "thanks dude, you saved us from this popup avira buls*it ". so, thanks again, i did your trick and it worked. this secpol windows feature will also come handy in other similar cases as well. 5/5!

  • Ok, great!

  • Hey interlinkknight! Can I know what program is that in your bottom right of your screen that turn red into green in a round image.

  • Is Camtasia Studio 5. Is the software that I use to capture the screen for this video.

  • Are free version of avira and avira antivirus 9 are the same? tnx.

  • You are talking about the differences between the Personal (free) and Premium (pay) editions?

Correction: The version 9 is available for all the editions:

Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus 9

    Avira AntiVir Premium 9

    Avira Premium Security Suite 9

    Avira AntiVir Professional 9

Now the differences between free and the others pay version is features like firewall, Backup-System, AntiSpam, WebGuard, etc. that the free version doesnt have.

  • Im glad to know that. Avira is really the best.

  • great video the pop ups in avira free version really bites me....THE PROBLEM IS THAT I HAV VISTA. how can i remove the adds on vista. the secpol.msc d'nt run on my vista.

  • Read in the video description for the instructions to make this procedure in Windows Vista

  • hi! recently Avira updated to version 9, will this one work on version 9 too? thanks!

  • I recently install version 9 and yes, it also work with this version.

  • oh ok thank you, I'm planning to change my antivirus to avira but i heard about this popup ads so i was kinda hesitant. thanks for reply!
