Im a 18 year old type 1 insulin dependent diabetic. I weigh around 140. I am 5'1 or 5'2.
I am a senior in high school.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in Nov of 04. So it has been 6 years since i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The things i hate about being diabetic is the highs and lows. When my blood sugar is low i am hungry and shaky. I want to eat non stop when my blood sugar is low. I dont eat non stop when i am low. When my blood sugar is high i feel like crap and i want to sleep

Yes, you have a higher risk of getting it. But you can do a lot to decrease chances of getting diabetes and its complications. Are you doing anything. Do you know your real risk? I assume both your parents have type 2 diabetes. BTW Avoid going for 'diabetes cures'.

32 years ive been a diabetic, ive been stabbin myself since the age of 6,1 year ago i changed insulin to the 5 a day novo rapid pen, if the doctors explained to me how easy the pen was years ago then i would of changed then..much better control.i can inject myself in about 8 secs. wish i done it years ago..

Dont focus on exercise cos its a bitch if your not in the mood and will make you depressed if you dont do it, then youll end up eating more. Maybe take up golf or something like dog walking?
Hey Dave, I feel your pain man! I also take Lantus and it changed my life 9 years ago. I supplement with Humalog pen shot about 2 times a day. I've had diabetes for 32 years now. I have the exact opposite problem you have though, I'm too skinny, always have been. I don't that kind of pain, that's got to suck. Keep your head up man!

denverbuzz: I had my spine fused and walking is difficult. I walk until it hurts but that's not very helpful. I also can't afford a bike. I am trying to get my insurance company to pay for a YMCA membership. They did it once before. Swimming is pretty much my best option. I was also considering gastric bypass. My doctor thinks it is worth a try.
Hey, thanks for the kind words. One thing, however. If you are type 1, you are always type 1, juvenile diabetes. If you are a type 2, you will always be a type 2, which is adult onset. All type 1's use insulin. Not all type 2's do. I do. I didn't, but now I do. It's my fault for not taking care of myself, but that's how it goes. Even though I use insulin, I'm still type 2.
Both can use insulin, the type refers to how and when you got diabetes. Also, my family makes that mistake all the time. I try to explain it, but I guess since it's not something that they have to deal with, the explanation doesn't stick. Oh, well.

Hi Dave. I suffer from diabetes as well from being OVERWEIGHT. I have had this pain in the ass disease for 10 years. I take Lantus at night too...but still oral meds and novolog as well. So I know exactly how you feel my friend. I am dieting and only lost 50 pounds in a year! Insulin makes it extremely hard to lose weight for me. Any ways I enjoyed your video it made me feel like I am not the only one.
Yes Diabetes is a bad time. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and Its horrible. I hope I don't feel like this forever. I do have a hard time relating to guys like Dave here. By his own admission he's fat and struggles to lose weight to deal with his diabetes. I'm in superior physical condition, eat right, and have been that way since my teens (31 now). I wish all I had to do was lose a few pounds. If that were the case this would be considerably easier to manage.
Hey, you don't develop type 1 diabetes from being fat (I'm assuming you're type 1 because you use insulin -- even though some people with type 2 eventually go on insulin shots too).
