  • im glad to have stumbled upon this, what a refreshing surprise

  • 1:48 little mistake, i think, but still amazing

  • Haha the camera man is completely tripping balls man

  • Hey Youtube, stop the comments section.

  • Por qué el contador solo cuenta mis visitas?

  • my god, this is such a easy/standard tune when played by bob dylan and sco just takes it to another level. such a groove, gives me goosebumps :D

  • who gives a fuck how old you are when you listen to certain music. don't try and show off how 'good' your music taste is when our 15 years old or 19 years old, its fucking gay

  • @jazzmessenger8 as a saxophonist i can happily say classical is harder than jazz. mainly because it requires a higher level of control over the instrument.

  • I agree with you jazzman158

  • I'm afraid I have to agree with you jazzman

  • Love

  • Music is a matter of personal taste. Like art when you see it you either like it or you dont. We are all wired different and what is good to one person is crap to another. Thats what makes the world go round. You cant debate that truth. I happen to love this group but I also listen to Led Zeppelin to Keith Jarrett. As a musicain it is good to keep an open mind. Just listen without being critical and you will learn something from all music that will make you a better player.

  • Bill Stewart is amazing. The most musical drummer Ive ever heard. Complex but tasteful at the same time. You cant practice what he does. It comes from his DNA.

  • Jazz is the thinking mans music, young or old some people have musical smarts and some don't. Some people are the equivalent of musical sheep.... bah baaaah

  • These, my friend, are perhaps the wisest words ever written in a youtube comment.

    Amen.

  • i was there. i was an usher. i confisccated everyones joints. then Lee Ritenour came up after John Scofield and i was lke heres some good music to walk out to the car to.....no on wants to hear lee ritenour after scofield burns one up.

  • @emchrist123 why confiscate the joints? they are not harming anybody, however you are.

  • @musicmaniac960 so i could smoke them before scofield.....duh

  • Ah, finally some rational discussions on youtube... There are som many crappy people arguing if they've got balls or the other - and it riuns the video. This thread don't. Thx guys.

  • This sounds like a grateful dead head jam. I'm not saying that's bad.

  • the pretenders

  • great job man... ! tank you..

  • They are animals :)

  • man I wanna play on a stage like that

  • bad venue for this trio

  • tasty, man (actually an old tune, 'fore all the rockers did it)

  • Alucinante es buenísimo!

  • dude scofield fuckin loves that crazy chorus effect, iv heard him use it in like every video iv watched. i cant blame him it sounds pretty cool

  • Comment removed

  • amazing band

  • Are you Drunk?, what a...if you don´t know use a video camera: don´t try to use, please...no ofense

  • Sounds like urinebio is jealous that I'm in a kickass band. He should focus all that attention into practicing. Then, someday he'll be able to swing hard like we do.

  • Just listen the sco's album "This Meets That"

  • Just play,. Enjoy

  • guys im 15 and watching this i havent been influneced by anyone i grew up listning to mainstream music and then i started playing guitar and i love metheny scofield all these jazz guitarists as well as shreders and some mainstram stuff and i discovered this by not liking mainstream and wanting to discover real music so jazz is not for adults what so ever

  • superb version

  • One of the social weirdnesses that I never knew about before that the internet (and YouTube especially) has brought out is this thing where people will say stuff to people in "posts" they would never say to their faces. Rather than answer anyone back here, I will just say that music has no absolute values, it varies by the listener. That being said, I thought this was a great arrangement of this tune played by a unique and genius voice on his instrument - but that's just my opinion ;-)

  • viva passive aggressiveness! :)

  • Hey assdung77, don't worry about all that anal-ysis. I follow up on my comments because I'm usually right. As for Scofield, he is gonna be good if he keeps practicing.

Now quit yr poutin', head over to my u2b page, and check out our new vid, "It Aint Easy". Most folks say my guitarist is the best jazz player on u2b, and they are probably right.

    Go ahead, now. Git goin'.

  • I went to your page and watched some videos and I see what you guys are doing, Mr. #1 socksphone - yeah, this is sort of funny in a way. Yeah, there are people that try to play jazz that say nothing, and then there are people that just weren't born with the ability to hear jazz, no matter good or bad. BUT - at least these people are trying to actually do something, as opposed to just making fun like I guess is you guys' thing...whatever.

  • don't worry, number1sax is a publicity stunt, just kindly ignore his nonsense.

  • Totally, they are amateurs that are having fun with this prankster comments hehe. I think there are better ways to get views, but that's their problem.

  • Scofield is so much better than you can even hope to be. Loser.

how bout some respect for greatness?

  • Assuming you saw my vids, then you are obviously not ready for MODERN jazz. Check back in a few years.

  • Check back in a few years? True, you're certainly in need of a few years practice. I suggest getting a good teacher.

  • Lol sorry i didn't get you. Number1saxophone is just joking men ;) They are amateurs who are having fun and want to get some views with this comments. Jeje i think there are better ways for that, but at least you have a sense of humour.

  • Hey Mex, I don't know what you were listening to but number1sax's band sounds pretty good to me. Maybe you're not ready for jazz music.

  • I really don't know what you want to achive, you pranksters, hahah, but ok keep joking ;) And of course keep having fun with your band, don't let does 1 or 2 stars rating discourage you jeje.

  • Please all amature guitar players stop commenting. Most of you know nothing about jazz or music. Each time you post you sound like morons. This isn't about shredding, sweeping or anything you thing making music is about so stop trying to understand it. This is music for adults. Stay with Eddie, Stevie and Jimmy. Leave harmony to those who know it.

  • I don't think jazz is exclusively for adults. In order to secure a future for jazz, younger people need to be involved with the music both practically and theoretically. In fact the trouble with jazz is that it is viewed my many young people as the music of an older generation and not enjoyable to listen to any more. Its hard to get all younger would-be jazz musicians enthusiastic, but we shouldn't stop trying because when younger musicians stop responding to jazz, it begins to die out.

  • don't worry, its not going to die out. especially with people broadening the tonal palette like Scofield.

  • @jazzman158 I don't know if that's true. But John Scofield didn't pick up the guitar before he was 19-21 and look at what he has accomplished. Also I just recently began playing jazz and blues(meaning that's what I mainly play now) and I'm 18. I guess you have to reach some level of maturity - music wise - to understand and therefore appreciate and enjoy that kind of music. It's complex music and not surprisingly great jazz guitarists are the best guitarists around.

  • @MarcBeckK John Scofield started playing when he was 11...

  • Comment removed

  • @jazzman158 well good thing i love jazz

plus its a music essential for lots of instruments

so it can't die out :)

  • @jazzman158 thats where my band comes in, i look at jazz as the same way i look at blues, all about the gristle, the feel, the freedom of expression that music is about, and the fun!

  • @jazzman158 I agree, I'm 15 and I LOVE scofield, especially a go go, such a great guitarist

  • @nickusa317 i wish my taste was that good at 15! i was into linkin park (although it was back in 2003 when they where still good). been into jazz 2 or 3 years now though.

  • @jazzman158 I'm 19 and this stuff is the shit

  • @jazzman158 dont worry, im 23 and i love jazz! love listening to it (the old and the new stuff) and love jamming it out on my drums too.

  • Actually jazz isn't just for adults. It's for people with patience.

  • All I mean is Jazz is completely about subtley, nuance and harmony. Most young people have no reference. You can't learn about Monet with only one trip to the museum. Kids listen to music that is popular, which is mostly simple in form. Youth always needs a hammer while an adult has a broader palette developed over year of experience. You can't explain everything to a child. Why even try? Look I won't get enough space to really lay out the facts but kids who like jazz usually play jazz.

  • I'd say it's all about what you're exposed to. so you're right to say most kids won't get it if they're busy listening to the pop music out there. But if you're raised on this kinda stuff or similar styles and artists, your tastes build around the foundation. A kid whose parents are listening to jazz all the time probably understands as much as an adult who's discovered a liking for jazz. Coming from a family that cooks gives you finer tastes than a family that microwaves (for example) :-)

  • I wasn't raised with jazz. I'm glad I found it though. I think the first artist I listened to that really opened my mind was Chick Corea. Now I'm trapped! Simple I IV V progressions are not enough anymore!

  • Jazz is like red wine or esspresso - an aquired taste; And like wine and esspresso it's rich and complex (sometimes). However, I believe that it is societies fault that "youth" aren't always into jazz. It's the opposite with me; I'm a 15 year old jazz violinist and my teacher is Matt Glaser (the head of the Berkley string department). So, young people can like, play and excel at jazz.

  • Wow... it's amusing watching all the jazzers pretend they're higher than everybody else and saying jazz is the best. It's really good but there's bad jazz and good jazz. Don't make it like some godly genre, it's all just music.

  • NOT ONCE did anyone here ever say that jazz was better, NOT ONCE. We have said that it is harder, because it IS generally harder to play than other music.

  • I don't think it's harder to play, it may be harder to write or create because it's based on feeling, but there is definitely stuff that's HARDER to PLAY.

  • Actually it IS harder to play

  • It just has a high learning curve to understand the theory and requires self research/exposure as it's not in the mainstream as much as other genres these days. People need to remember it's just music... lol

  • The best way to win arguments with guys like this on YouTube is to not try, just let their insecurities speak for themselves. While it is true that it's hard to play ANY music really well, it's common sense that since most jazz requires the player to have to be changing the scales they are working out of to fit the chords, it would take more mental energy to do that - regardless of what anyone says.

  • What about classical music? (just playing devil's advocate here (I love jazz and this trio)) You can find just as many levels of detail and expression in classical music as you might in jazz. Its main difference from jazz would be that classical music is more a more rigid form of expression, the performer has a very narrow stance from which to display his/her individuality. I would say that classical music is just as hard to play as jazz, if you are trying to do it at the top level.

  • Oh , totally , but jazz has unwritten timing and augmentation in its dynamics , where as in Classical It is way more regimented. the players are also different. A Jazz musician has to be an expert in listening to his or her surroundings and to improvise over and under verse , where as a Classical musician (with a few exceptions over time) might never fully learn such a trade as listening , due to the regiment and having a conductor to look to .

  • I don't fully agree here. I find that in order to play classical music at the professional level, it is of utmost importance to "listen to his or her surroundings" in order to achieve a unified sound. There is not always a conductor. In fact, conductors don't become necessary until you have more than 12 or 14 musicians. I used to play in a quintet, we never had a conductor. I now play in a jazz duo, I play Violin and The other is a guitarist. But I learned my skills in Classical music!!

  • I agree with jazzdug that playing ANY music is hard. The thing with jazz is that it requires a lot more than good technique. Only jazz can express so many feelings. You can cry, laugh or be the happiest man in the world while listening to it. You can't find this easily on any other music.

  • I find amusing how you fools keep on talking about Scofield's talent like that. Just keep your ignorance to yourself jeez...

  • An ugly drum beat? You mean swinging...?

  • whatever it was I didn't like it...I'm sure he's a great guitarist, but this just isn't my cup of tea, jazz ain't rly, it's so hard to find anything good about it

  • so you felt the need to say you didn't like it publicly why? you don't have to like it, but, just do everyone a favor and leave it at that.

  • Too bad also for rookies.

  • Obviously, you've continued to hold it in; must be painful at this point.

  • too late for that, i'm afraid the amount of toxic waste in you is so massive, it has oozed out of every orifice on your body most especially your ears & mouth, as it has rapidly hemorrhaged inside your brain...my sympathies to you.

  • Hahahaha!

  • he is playing another unknown guitar, a black one. Somebody knows where it is come from ?

  • i think its the same model ibanez he usually uses .just not the burst one,

  • somebody get me some dramamine !!!!!!!!!!!

  • It sounds like an old western movie song. Very good. Imagine young Clint Eastwood riding a horse with a cigar and this song.

  • thats what it is.

    look up the original version

  • Awesome music, awful video.

  • Instead of yassymovie, you should call it "moving jazz"..

It is a joke. Thanks for the effort.

  • This song is a classic, and it´s anonymus. It was covered bay many bands, including The Animals

  • Righto. The Animals learned it off a Dylan album. Dylan probably got it from old Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, or Lefty Frisell records. Those guys were most likely born knowing it.

  • This song is old and I don't know where Dylan first heard it but the chord changes he used are not the original ones. They were made up by Dave Van Ronk and then Dylan used them when he recorded the tune for his first album.

  • Just or the record this is not a Sco tune. This is an old rock song done by Eric Burden and The Animals back in the day. A nice fusion adaptation of it though.

  • Scofield is just cool...you may be able to say something else good or bad, but I can't!
