You cant take out your harddisk because you need an update in order to use the USB flash drive as a storage device for accounts etc.

Without the harddisk in place, you can't update the xbox, even if you put the latest update on the USB stick(which I did), it doesn't update cause it can't store it anywhere. You need the update before you can save stuff on your USB, so, no update = no usb = no storage device.

Kind of pointless as your game save progress ties to the gamertag. Unless you mod game saves which is pretty pointless. Plus, I seriously suggest you do not remove or add the HDD while it is on. XFAT is unstable enough without doing that too.
