  • You said you are learning dutch, don't you ? Dutch is totaly diffrent. Most people in Germany do not understand them, because it is an other language and a different country. That girl you are talking about speaks regular german. :)

  • I'm swiss and the first part sounds very much like swissgerman, but the rest sounds like dutch. Its definatly far away from high-german

  • It's not totally clear, where the Amish came from, because the Germany was much bigger in the time of the German Empire.(till 1918) As far as I know most Amish settled in Rhenish Palatinate, but also in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Alsace (which is today a part of France) an in the north of Swtizerland. Most Amish speaks Rhine Franconian, other dialects semms to be a mix of Middle Franconian, Swabian, Bavarian and Alemannic (all German dialects).
