I thought Costner's portrayal of Earp was more accurate. Russell played him a little too soft, as where Costner's Earp definitely had more of an edge. Kilmer and Quaid were both awesome as Holiday, so I wouldn't be able to choose there
They were already too old for the role. The real guys were horribly young.
I thought the two movies bookended each other well artistically. I never knew all this backstory about Wyatt Earp before this. Especially his tragic earlier history. He himself admitted to never understanding why the media seized on his "street fight" and immortalized it.
I love the passion between these two, as always hot and passionate scenes off this epic movie... Kevin still looks the hero, and still is...One off my favourites off all times..
Whyatt Earp was the real tough constable by that time. Just look at his real photograph and yu´ll see coolness, determination and guts.Need some one like him to patrol our streets...
By the way,Joanna,Dennis,Kevin and Hackman were amazing. Great movie.
Val Kilmer was an awesome Doc Holliday, so stop pissing and moaning - the way you Dennis Quaid people complain you'd think somebody felt insecure in their opinion...idiots.
I adore Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. My fiance and I quote him all the time and I think Kilmer brings such an edge, such compassion to the character. His illness breaks your heart. Can't say who is closer to the real Holliday but I think Kilmer is fabulous. I also think it depends on who you see in the role first. Kilmer gets my vote hands down!

Quaid's Holliday is atrocious - he should be embarassed that he played the same role as Kilmer, and did it so poorly. Not that Quaid is a good actor anyway, but his version of Holliday is amatuer at best. "Ill be your Huckleberry . . ."
Does anyone else find it funny that Michael Madsen chose to be in this movie over the role of Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction - can you say career suicide?
I will never forget this film. It is sweeping, passionate and romantic. It is the most human and affecting portrait of Wyatt Earp I have ever seen on the screen.
Another underrated performance was that of dennis quaid as doc holliday! I never understood why people always have a hard on for val kilmer in tombstone, quaids performance was more geniune and raw
So true. I was in Atlanta when both flicks were released. Doc's descendants live near there and were interviewed as to which portrayal was best, based on family histories passed down. They went for Quaid hands down, saying he had that raw edginess AND the suave that Kilmer had. Also, Quaid's accent is natural. He lost 40 lbs to play the ill Doc. Tombstone was a better vehicle for a "Doc" character than "Wyatt Earp."
Amen. I've always said this. I was in Atlanta when this flick came out. His relatives live outside Atlanta in Griffin, GA. Based on the family's knowledge of Doc from oral histrories, they thought the Quaid portrayal was better. Val had the advantage of being in his flick from the get-go, while Quaid only got in the last half of his. I actually liked Val and Tombstone a lot, but Quaid could have had best supporting actor with the time that Val got onscreen.
he is soooooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot my god i wanna die

The most amazing thing about Kevin Costner is that he is a boring actor that is fascinating to watch.

I thought this was a great movie. It was really under-rated with critics.

Wyatt Earp seemed to have found true love after seeing Josephine "Josie" Marcus. One day, I'll find true love and be as thrilled as Wyatt was.

this movie is definately much better than tombstone because it has so much more detail and the cast chosen for this were perfect

Well thats your opinion but I say tombstone is the better movie and Kurt Russell looked more like Wyatt at the time. Val Kimmler was also good.

although Val Kilmer's portration of Doc Holliday was kick ass, Dennis Quaid actually played Doc Holliday as he truly was

This was a good movie but Tombstone was better. And Val Kilmer's performance of Doc Holliday was far superior.

Are these all of JG's scenes? I watched this movie years ago because of JG's scenes and only remember her having a very short scene at the end.

Kevin Costner is a favorite target of the naysayers, but I've always enjoyed him and he does an excellent job in Wyatt Earp.

Not to mention Quaid could be the real Doc Holliday's twin brother.
