I was under the impression that she was dying anyway. In the recap in SI #8 it states "the Wasp becomes a chemical bomb" and on page 3 the narration says "It seemed the Wasp herself was trying to get away. In her dying breath she was trying to save lives..."
Finally, from the updated bio in Requiem:
"Under [the serum's] influence, Wasp grew uncontrollably larger as her body radiated a painful and strangely corrosive energy that threatened to destroy all her fellow heroes along with her.
"Determined to prevent this, she fought her transformation and used all her remaining strength to fly upward, with a propulsive boost from some of her comrades, until she disintegrated in the upper atmosphere without harming anyone else."
Yeah, In the back of Requiem it has an updated "official handbook" entry for Wasp.
And while it wasn't depicted that well, that is how it went in the comic. As I wrote above, it's in the recap and in the narration of SI #8. But I can see how you might miss that.
There isn't the slightest hint of Jan flying or her fellow heroes trying to help her get airborne or even get away.
"it seemed that the Wasp herself was trying to get away" is the only indication of her trying to get away.
And Thor's tornado only appears to be dissipating her.
Its all well and good that a later description of it adds detail, but if a scene is depicted so poorly that it needed a bio entry for it to make sense the scene failed its audience.
Thor didn't kill Jan with his whirlwind. Basically, she was being atomized or something by whatever the Skrulls did to her, and Thor just swept her away so she wouldn't harm the others in the process.
I think that the correct chronological order (for those that care) is, New Avengers - SI Epilogue, then Initiative #20 (came out the next week), then Secret Invasion: Requiem.
I think that it was great in Requiem that they address Hank hitting Jan and state that it was only once. Everyone always makes it seem like he did it all the time, but he didn't.
The best part about New Nation is that they actually aren't the first few pages of the #1s like they normally do, they are actually previews (at least, so far)
Secret Invasion sucked ass. Basically, it was just setup for Dark Reign which is good so far. New Avengers is back on track with Mighty and Dark Avengers looking good. War Machine and Punisher are really good so far.
The problem with New Nation is that some of the previews were in the SI Dark Reign one shot the week before. Waste of money.
I actually luved Secret Invasion. I thought it was genius to have a plot developing from 2004- 2008 in the Avengers book and only reveal it the last year and a half. I really don't remember anyone else doing that. Bendis is pure genius to me.
Kick ass review Holmberg your humour never ceases to to amaze me. Still what are your thoughts on this whole Dark Reign event now that Osborn has his seat at power and has all the the former and still active evil masterminds obeying him?
yeah I was pissed to seeing as to how they killed off Legacy. but if you remmember the last page he made wish on his cosmic ring so theres still hope he'll come back again alive
You should be on Space Channel

But thats not what we saw.
Is that the Marvel Universe entry?
In Secret Invasion shes just shown as swept away by Thors Tornado.
Its kinda funny though cause I would have much preferred that ending!
Hah!

Yeah, I found that a bit in SI (that the scene was poorly depicted), but even more so in Final Crisis.

You mean to say "I don't think Thor Killed Jan with his whirlwind" as we don't know the details now do we?
Thor could have sent her to another dimension as he often does with Mjolnir, but he didn't.
The problem with the scene in question was the lack of explanation for what was going on.

Yeah the end of the Avengers Initiative #19 pissed me off as well! Totally agree but the next issue sorted things out so I was cool with it.
Great reviews man!
Dark Avengers Hartley, are you excited? Or too many Avengers right now in your opinion?
