So, I guess the question is: Is it going to be Jackson/Blomkamp or Spielberg who directs this?

Personally, I've seen District 9, the nitty-gritty, cinema varite quality in both that movie and this short, is excellent, it is exactly what the a halo movie needs, especially one with a "FPS" background. Also, give Blomkamp a chance to continue making his mark. I vote Jackson/Blomkamp. Spielberg in all likely hood will stuff it up.

There was some live action stuff that was added to promo 3 but they were fan films. That big diorama with the Brute holding Master Chief, Museum of Humanity and the old veterans reflecting on the war fighting with Master Chief. After the people behind Halo watched them they picked them up because they were impressed. There are tons of fan films out there with Halo and some are amazing. Unfortunately it creates a ton of misinformation about efforts behind the real stuff.

They filmed live action stuff for ODST and Reach. When a producer pitches a film they do test footage. This was the stuff Jackson and Blomkamp did to pitch Halo but it sent Bungie, 343 and Microsoft into a war with who owned the rights. You can look up the history of this footage IMDB.com. The footage for Reach & ODST are stories that add to the line of each game; Kat losing her arm, 6 sacrificing himself, Carter going through augment. This doesn't do anything like that.

@BlinxDeath ODST never had servers, the reason the were not in the final game was because Bungie had two months left to make the movie and it would take another year to make the game compatible with online. The second game had it take out because all of the original Xbox servers were shutting down because hardly anyone played anymore and Microsoft was wasting money on them.

This was test footage when Jackson and Blomkamp were vamping to do the Halo movie but it fell apart. Jackson still wants to do but Spielberg also wants to do it and said he'd throw in 10x the amount of money beyond Jackson. Unfortunately because Bungie, 343, Microsoft and others can't come to an agreement on who really owns Halo, everything is on hold until then. It will happen one day, I just hope whoever makes it takes it serious and doesn't dumb it down.

@XecuttioneR Damn skippy. I'm still worried who would actually make it regardless of graphics. Think about the trash movie they made for Doom; if the same person did Halo I'd kill myself. It's got to be someone who takes the story serious, those behind creating the universe for Halo have done a damn fine job. This is just me but after watching Battle Los Angeles, I think Aaron Ekhart could pull off Master Chief. He did a great job in that show, about the same age, etc.

@djcorbijn yea you are right I suppose. I would much rather let the movie stay at rest than let someone silly make a mess out of the one the greatest games of the decade. DOOM was pretty cool to me but then again, I never played the games so maybe you are right. But, I think if they make a Halo Movie, they should start right at the beginning of the war on Harvest, therefore eliminating the need to cast a Master Chief for now. That should come later and leave Marines like Johnson to play in it

@XecuttioneR Not trying change opinions, just saying my own. I'm tired of the commercialization of comics and games into movies and seeing them trashed. If this was done to Halo I'd be pissed. They could do so much with Halo aside from MC so I agree. Johnson (rumor) was a Spartan 1, that's why he's such a bad ass, he's pushing 60+ years old in the game. I'm not a big gamer even though I dig Halo, I'm just a sci-fi junkie. I'd do the Fall of Reach book as movie 1, follow John from the start.

Johnson would make an excellent Halo protagonist for the first movie. Although finding a rugged tough-as-nails bad ass to play him will be extremely difficult lol.
